much better vision in a high rise vehicle. Great in the snow. Very roomy. love the power of the engine...............and with the amount of traveling we do, the room in this truck for storage is unbelievable. Would definetly buy another one.
Weakness:
possible turnover when making sharp turns over 25mph. Definetly a off-road vehicle. have had some trouble with this vehicle, but not any more than any other vehicle. AC bubbles when you accelerate, brakes went out quick, battery went dead after 1 year. Nothing that we didn't expect for a used truck. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
The engine seems to be fairly reliable. Knock on wood! At least so far, but I am not hopeful.
Weakness:
Major repair costs. When someone pays as much money for a vehicle as people do for these, I would expect some sort of value for the money. I would never recommend GM cars or trucks to anyone. The service department is friendly, but I suspect has been told to ignore problems until after warranty. Owners need to be on their toes and watchful at all times when dealing with them. We received this vehicle as a gift from my inlaws as they were going overseas to live for a few years. Even though we have taken it in for all regular service maintenance checks and oil changes, somehow the "big" stuff was never caught until after the warranty period was over. Once we passed the 36,000 mile mark, all sorts of things were discovered. We had to have brake work done (rotors replaced, etc.) The last straw, was our A/C going out. This repair work will cost us close to $2000 and the car isn't even 4 years old yet? Besides the major repair costs, there is a lot of little annoying things wrong with the Blazer. It rattles and squeaks worse than my 15 year old Toyota Celica ever did (oh, those were the days!) The windshield wiper/washer in the rear window has never worked properly, even though the dealer "claims" to have fixed it numerous times. One of the more troubling, though minor repairs that needed to be made, was one of the seat handles that broke off when my husband attempted to adjust the driver's seat. It literaly sheared off in a clean break. I just they don't use those bolts anywhere important, like to hold the engine up. Similar Products Used: Ford F-250 truck -- this is the only other "truck" I have owned and it has 87,000 miles on it (its a '92) and I have never had to do anything but change the oil. |

Strength:
In spite of low power, the four wheel drive has great grip - but then, all four wheel drives do.
Weakness:
See above. Every thing not listed under 'strengths' is a weakness. My Blazer is an Underpowered, loosely assembled, sloppy handling heap of tin. I have had problems with road noise, weird rattles (it only has 45,000 miles) and stupid things breaking like the driver's door lock. In addition, the engine now insists on blowing the ECM fuse at randomly chosen intervals. The antilock break sensor cable in the front left wheel somehow got worn through. (Don't you think they'd protect that?) I tuned it up with new cap & rotor, wires, plugs, etc. The rotor in the vortec engine is buried in the back of the block, and screws in instead of sitting on a keyed post like every other vehicle in the free world. Screws hold down the cap as well instead of clamps. I had a mitsubishi that took ten minutes and no tools to change the cap, rotor and all the wires. This tank took all day. (and I never had a problem with the mitsu) Similar Products Used: 93 and 95 explorers. The ford product is definitely better. |

Power, comfort(I am tall), looks nice.
Weakness:
Gas mileage, a little too much plastic on the inside. I have had no problems with my Blazer. I drove it off the lot with 14 miles on it and now have close to 23,000 less than a year later. I have not had a single problem. I must say, to read others comments about this vehicle leaves me a bit concerned. All I can do is keep changing my oil every 3000 miles and keep my fingers crossed. Hopefully I got a good one. Similar Products Used: I owned a Mazda B2600i before the Blazer, and I do miss that vehicle. I traded it in for this blazer and I could have gotten another 100,000K from it. Oh well. |

Strength:
It looks nice...(but is that enough to make you feel safe??)
Weakness:
I haven't had many problems, just one persistent problem (very strange noise in the driver's side front, near the wheel) that started nearly 10,000 miles before my warranty was up. I'm very disappointed that I fell into all the hype about this vehicle. It's definitely not what it is marketed to be. I bought a brand new vehicle thinking that I wouldn't have problems. I started experiencing problems 10,000 miles before my warranty was up, and in spite of 6 trips to the dealership, the problem continues. My warranty is now up, and Chevy will NOT stand behind their product. I intend to unload this nightmare ASAP so I don't continue to be a fool and waste my money. I also intend to look at the legal issues surrounding the fact that I tried to have it repaired under warranty, and it wasn't fixed. I have never owned anything but a GM product. I will NEVER own another, after learning that GM doesn't even believe enough in their product to make sure they work. Similar Products Used: I've always owned GM products....but this proves that they don't make things like they used to. |

BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FOR THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE FOR WINTER TRAVEL
Weakness:
FIRST THE TRANSMISSION COST ME $800 FOR THE VALVE BODY, WHICH IS A NON REBUIDABLE PART, LESS THAN 1,000 MILES AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. NOW THREE MONTHS LATER I BOUGHT NEW TIRES DUE TO I THOUGHT THAT WAS MAKING THE NOISE IN THE FRONT. WRONG... IT IS THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND YOU CAN ONLY BUY THEM FROM A DEALER FOR $452.00 EACH. AFTERMARKET PRICE FOR FEDERAL MOGEL BEARINGS IS $168.00 AND YOU BELIEVE THEM TO BE THE OEM PARTS. BUT THESE ARE CURRENTLY ALL PULLED FROM STOCK WITH A NATIONWIDE BACKORDER WITH NO EXPECTED DELIVERABLE DATES AVAILABLE. CHEVROLET REFUSES TO EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH WHEEL BEARINGS. I WANT TO GO ON VACATION NEXT WEEK AND IT IS EITHER PAY THEIR GOUGING 452.00 PRICE OR LET MY VEHICLE UNTIL I CAN FIND A DECENT PRICE FOR WHEEL BEARINGS. I HATE TO BE TAKEN FOR A FOOL. PLEASE DO NOT BUT A BLAZER. VERY DISAPPOINTED. IT WAS TO LAST 100,000 MILES AND WON'T MAKE IT TO 50,000. Similar Products Used: MY HUSBAND HAS DROVE CHEVROLET TRUCKS SINCE HE BOUGHT HIS FIRST 1950 PICKUP. THIS WILL BE HIS LAST IF WE DON'T GET A RESPONSE TO THIS BLAZER DISASTER. |

Replaced, air conditioner, power brake assist, power steering pump, steering gear box, belt tensioner, radiator, numerous electrical problems in dash area, electric door lock dead; transmission is doing weird stuff now. This vehicle has given me 5 years of dependable service. Unfortunately, I have had it for 6.5 years. Similar Products Used: This is my first and probably last GM vehicle. |

Love the TBI 350! Plenty of power hidden in there waiting to be unharnessed! Easiest engine to work on known to mechanics, the GM 350 V8! The body on my rig has so far proved to be rock solid, no rust even with factory paint, uncommon with previously owned Chevy and GM trucks. Strong front and rear diff's strait from the factory, tuff frame! With a Plain Jane rig like mine, (rubber floor, vinyl upholstery, no headliners or carpeted panels anywhere on board, no A.C., No Power Nothing) the truck just leaves itself wide open to a complete custom work over to suit the owners taste! Also being a factory stripped model makes it a perfect Utilitarian Rig for work or play, lots of play! The removable rear cap or canopy is a huge plus on this rig! Why'd they quit that design? If ya take it off before ya roll you'll save yourself a lot of headache, and busted fiberglass, otherwise, having that option is really worth it for any 4X4 enthusiast!
Weakness:
Milage WITHOUT the overdrive TH700R4 would be unbearable, especially without any engine upgrades. Strong transfer case but coupled to notoriously weak stock Chevy locking hubs. Warn Hubs are a required upgreade on the front end. Stock shocks.... what shocks? Gas shocks are a must for venturing even five feet off road, but this is a neccesity on all 4X4 vehicles... Of course that rear U-Joint is gonna have to be replaced with every oil change unless you get a custom rear drive line with commercial or heavy duty U-joint retrofit upgrade, this goes double for tow rigs, (like mine)... also an auxillary tranny cooler can improve twong performance, just install a temp gauge if the cooler gets opt'ed out. B&M makes a tranny temp gauge that slaps rite into one of those 2" blank gauge holes on the left of your dash, and looks so close to stock, no one will ever know it wasn't! For towing and tranny maintenance ease, B&M's inline tranny fluid filter installed with their aux. tranny cooler and gauge package is extra slick! Already had to replace both rear and front diff seals right behind the yokes, unsure why, but probably because the compound wasn't up to arctic grade spec. It'll surprise you the first time you go to back a trailer in a tite spot too, being so short expect to back up a trailer a lot slower with a lot more use of the steering wheel than on a longer truck too! With 31X10.50X15 inch Firestone ATX's, drop the removable hardtop, lock in the hubs and crank the stereo- you got one kickin' beach buggy machine! With just a few affordable upgrades like Heckethorn Gas Shocks, Accel ignition system, K&N filter Charger, heavy duty use U-joints, American Racing Outlaw II rims and true dual straight pipes exhaust exiting headers sans the sucky catalytic converter of course, and undersized drive pulleys- I was able to increase the performance of my Blazer (350 V8) to feel much more like sleeper rig that she is. Along with the neck slapping power increase and instantaneous throttle response, I witnessed a huge increase in fuel milage, probably due mostly to removing the Catalytic converter, a notrious power robber and plague of modern performance V8's. If one wanted a single simple power increasing upgrade and is legally able to, I would recommend yanking that Cat! If the cat has to stay for evil I.M. purposes, I'd recommend at least a K&N Filter Charger, possibly coupled with a Jacobs igniton system, if money allows. I wished I had gone with Jacobs over Accel, although they are both great products and both guarrantied to increase performance output! A nice stereo isn't a bad upgrade either, those dash speakers have to go, Alpine offers a nice set of drop in replacements, 100 watts each. In the rear deck of my rig I layed out two 10" subs in boxes packaged with 3" mid's and 1" pieezo tweets, all from Kenwood with a matched High Output dash mounted power head. Plenty of power to drown out those straight pipes too! Similar Products Used: 1978 shortbed GMC High Sierra 15. A beefy little shortbed truck with a 350 V8 sporting a quadrajunk carb that warranted immediate dismissal from the engine compartment! Full time 4X4 drivetrain with a 3 speed auto really sucked up the fuel, about 6 or 7 miles to the gallon, as opposed to the road proven 16 miles to a Gal i get with the Blazer now and overdrive with the hubs out and in 2wd. The short bed was better suited to plowing snow, simply because it was easier to stack weight in the rear, but both rigs are so manuverable in tite spaces, they really lend themselves to efficient plowing. |
