Great riding vehicle. This has been the most dependable car I have ever owned. This is not the Chevys of old: poor realiability, engineering, etc. This has been a terrific vehicle and I have over 96,000 miles so far with nothing gone wrong (knock on wood). The interior room is fantastic. You can haul anything. Especially good for golf trips with four guys! Gas mileage is between 16-17 mpg, which is not bad for a vehicle this size. It has a very strong engine, with great acceleration and pulling power.
Weakness:
Brakes are small for a vehicle this size & weight. I have changed pads every 30,000 miles, and I drive predominantly highways. Because of the excessive pad wear, I have replaced two rotors already. That is my only gripe. Everytime I think about buying another vehicle, I come back to the Tahoe. What else could give me this space, ride, comfort, and realiability for this price. I paid around $32,000 after adding an after market moon roof (which has been great by the way). A new, loaded Jeep Grand Cherokee would have been more. The key question, "Would I buy another?" At this point in time my answer would be YES! Similar Products Used: 1993 & 95 Ford Explorers |

Strength:
Great Power, Smooth Driving and an all around Oustanding SUV for the money.
Weakness:
None that I can see I purchased my 1999 Chevy Tahoe April of this year and fell in love with it. I like the 5.7 (350) V-8 engine. It rides just as good or better than some of these big cars do. There is plenty of power 255 horsepower is enough for me. And it get 320 miles on a tank of gas city/highway driving. For a V-8 engine I think that is outstanding. It does not burn gas the way the EPA says it does. It really depend on the driver as to what kind of gas mileage that you can get out of this vehicle. For a SUV vehicle I give it the highest rating. |

mileage This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. I travel for work between Boston and NY weekly for business and I drive. This truck holds it's own in all weather and traffic. Not to mention when I use it for fun I can carry 5 people and everyones gear. I suggest springing for the autotrac feature, it comes in very handy in wet/icy conditions. |

Great, powerful, safe and luxurious truck. Powerful 4 wheel drive system and excellent handling for a 1/2 ton truck. Great truck!
Weakness:
Goes through brakes like humans go through air, door handles cracked, wiper motors failed, speedometer quit working on several occasions, fuel line quit working I think that 96 was a bad year in terms of repairs...the previous owners sunk at least six thousand dollars into this truck and I just put 300 into it. Luckily the dealership is willing to repair the speedometer for the second time! Great truck but have it looked at by a mechanic if buying used. AWFUL GAS MILEAGE Similar Products Used: None |

Very roomy and comfortable ride compared to most other sport utilities (foreign makes to be specific)Cargo and cab space is one of the main reasons opted for american make.
Weakness:
The american car reputation for many repairs is proving true. Tahoe's are not even supposed need a full tune up until 100,000 miles. Transmission had to be completely replaced at 46,000. I know of 2 other '99Taho/Suburbans that had the same situation. GM agreed to pay 75% of replacement cost with no questions asked, but would not tell us what specifically was wrong - said it was to costly to tear it apart for a complete diagnostic. Sounds like they are aware of some faulty parts. They could have designed the rear windows better so that they roll down more than a few inches. I would say overall I have thouroughly enjoyed the Tahoe, especially on long trips with the family including the pets, but this transmission problem has left a sour taste with me. Due to the fact that it happened fairly soon out of warranty make me wonder if I will stick with Chevy/GM for my next purchase. I believe I was spoiled from owning foreign cars and never needing anything but basically oil changes and tires. Similar Products Used: Expedition |

Gas mileage (13/18) I love this SUV! It rides great, looks nice, and keeps on going when the mud and ruts appear. Originally, I had some concern from forums about the breaks. They are mushy, similar to any truck or suv. Not really that much different from many new cars. They will definately stop you when needed. Similar Products Used: Ford 4X4s |

POWER -- all you need.
Weakness:
No memory on passenger side seat. I have not had the car long but it sure is great. It has every creature comfort you can imagine and Chevy is almost willing to give them away in the current economy situation. (Just remind the dealer of fuel prices when you are negotiating a purchase price). The sticker was $39,200, paid $35,500 for vechile and pai $900 for extended warranty (60 months, 100K miles).
