Strength:

The appearance

Weakness:

The Motor. I regret the day that we bought this SUV. I swore that I would never buy a Dodge. Now I know why!

Engine Light kept came on and the vehicle stopped on us and we had it towed the Dodge Dealership who informed us that we only needed a battery. About two - three weeks later the engine light came on again. About a week later the car stopped again, we had it towed and now they tell us that the transmission is burned up and the motor is shot. We only have 55,000 miles on it.

Strength:

Performance, Space, Testosterone rating

Weakness:

Gas consumption and premium fuel- So what!! Buy a Honda Insight if it concerns you.

Excellent buy. Have done 44 000km and no extra visits to dealer, only routine maintenance. No electric window troubles (only on my Grand Cherokee)but have had occassional surge on cruise control. Performance is outstanding but it would be really fun to do some mods and leave those "sports sedans" behind. I think the R/T is the only model to have.

Strength:

NONE, I will never purchase another Crysler product as long as I live.

Weakness:

Everthing

It is the worst investment of my life. The Gauge light came on, the first time in Penn. We had to have it towed and since it was still under warranty they repaired it (took two days, which Crysler did not pay for any hotels). 5 Months later the car broke down again same problem towed again and still under warranty, however we were much closer to home. Took Dodge a month to repair. Well has of Yesterday 10/09/01 my car is in the shop again and of course no longer with a warranty and needs a new Engine. Crysler has offered to pay for half the repair costs and that is all they will do. My attorney is saying otherwise. Can''t wait until my lease is up.

Strength:

5.9 Engine has all the power in the world. Drives like a luxury car. Great looks. Lots of space.

Weakness:

Two wheel ABS does not stop the car fast enough in an emergency, 4 wheel ABS A MUST. Gas milleage is really bad, can''t wait for Dodge to come out with a Gas-Electric Hibrid engine, but, aren''t we all.

Proven to be the safest car on earth. My wife was cut off by a minivan driver that didn''t see her, the Durango hit the minivan at 40MPH, minivan was totaled, Durango was repaired to perfection (took 2 months though). 6 months after that, a Mercury Grand Marquee went out of control doing 80 on a 45MPH zone, cross over the median into incoming traffic and hit a Jeep and my Durango at the same time (more like we hit him on the side. The Jeep was completelly destroid, passenger was pretty hurt but lived, 2 occupands of Grand Marquee dead on impact (not wearing seat belts), the car looked like a bomb went off in it, me and my wife rushed were released from the hospital the same night wiht bruises all over but in pretty good condition. The insurance gave me the option to total the Durango or not, only because of the cost of the repair work, but the Durango looked like nothing everywere but in the very front left corner, not even the light lamps broke. I''m buying me a 2002 model, same color, etc, it saved my life.

Strength:

Extra third seat.

Weakness:

Bumper strenghth, rotors.

The front bumper of this vehicle does not protect the engine. I had a small dent in middle of the front bumper and that dent made the fan stop working thus the engine stopped cooling and I had to replace the motor. I had to replace rotor at 45,000 miles. I was told by a non-Durango repair person that this is common in Dodge vehicles. Car was making a horrible sound at certain speeds. Now went in to have new tires put on and they say I need a new right joint before they can perform alignment.

Strength:

Easy to drive, looks sharp, love the 3rd seat.

Weakness:

Had it in the shop way to many times Cloth upholstery is not of good qualtiy.

I thought I was buying my dream vehicle-turned out to be a nightmare! We purchased a new 2000, we had it in the shop so many times I have lost count. The main reason was the AC, it leaks in the front passanger side floor and pours from the rear air control knob. The crank sensor also went out. Thank goodness it was under warranty! We loved having the 3rd seat and the rear air when it wasn''t leaking. Anyway, just traded for a new 01 Durango, but I can not enjoy it since I am worried about it being a 30k piece of crap. I hope not all of the Durangos are lemons.

Great Looks

Weakness:

As detailed above

Death Trap...... After 6 weeks the vehicle has developed a habit of changing from D to 2 whilst travelling at speed (70 mph+) Car immediately decelerates to 60 mph with no warning to following traffic. I still do not know how the semi missed us. Dealer unable to replicate the problem and we have been advised to continue driving the car after a ''Black Box'' recorder has been installed. 3 meetings scheduled with dealership owner, each one broken with no call to advise us that she was not there. Great service....NOT Have been advised of a close out / trade in cost of $25000 to get rid of the car. This equals $1000 PER WEEK depreceation !! We will not drive a Dodge product again, even as a rental car. I have a horrible feeling that the Durango will be the next Explorer.

Yes, I have a 1998 Durange & I just had the Drive Pinion Gear Shaft brake in two pieces. Then it locked up my rear end. Now I am being told that Dodge does not have an extention on there Drive Train Warrenty like most companies and they will not fix it. I have 84,000 miles on my truck. I was only going about 5 miles an hour pulling out of a parking lot. I am being told I need to replace my whole rear end & the Pinion Gear. Lots of $$$. Also, I am being told that the truck is only worth $8,000 & it is loaded and in brand new shape. That is a big difference from the $35,000 I paid for it new

Strength:

Nice body, comfortable, plush, decent ride for a SUV

Weakness:

Engine is a piece of crap. I''ve heard the tranny will be next to go, at about 45K. Somebody in the engineering dept at DC is sleeping...

30K miles, uses ONE QUART of oil EVERY 40 MILES when towing a camper. Uses about a quart to 500 miles otherwise. I''d worry about it more, but it''s a lease vehicle and I''m dumping it in a few months. I''ve always had the oil changed every 3K. It also pings when towing, unless you use 92 octane.
