Tows wonderfully, gets me around in the snow with no problem.

Weakness:

I have had my Durango for 7 months. Recently I have had many things go wrong all at once. The Governor Pressure Sensor is showing it needs replacing, we are assuming that is why the transmission is slipping, the air conditioning is out again, the o2 sensor needs replacing. The back tires are fading fast and the rust around the window trims are unsightly. Can''t wait to trade it in.

ABS and Brake lamp lights keeps coming on, at which time I have no brakes. This is the second time it happened, and the vehicle is currently in the shop. I''ve had this vehicle for 7 months, and it has less than 26,000 miles. I know this is a big safety issue, and someone needs to fix this.

Nice stereo, nice ride

An engineering disaster. Dodge should have delayed putting this vehicle out for at least a year until they worked out the bugs.

This automobile is a piece of crap. Dodge will never see any of my business again. Air conditioner replaced, air conditioner controls fixed, oil pump went out, water pump went out, transmission is starting to act up, and now two of the four windows will not operate. I''m trading this piece of dog sh_t in and I pity the poor sap that picks it back up.

Dodge dealerships are not known for their "customer service". They are very helpful and happy to assist you while buying the car, but once you drive off the lot, you have to fight for any service.

I bought my 98 Durango (first one off the lot) Feb. of 99. I now have 93,000 miles on it. I''ve had to replace the battery twice, the tires twice, get the headlight switch fixed once (it still comes out completely), the front brakes once, and now am dealing with a failing oil pump. (It''s the sludge thing, but that''s my fault for not changing oil every 3000 miles). All in all, it''s been an excellent truck with little or no major repairs, no window problems and no rust. My only complaint has been the customer service at the dealership in Dayton Ohio. When we took it in to get the headlight switch fixed under warranty - we had to pay a $50 deductible. The next day the headlight switch and the panel it was attached to fell out in our hands. The dealer fixed it again immediately, but I''m disappointed in having to return twice for such a minor repair. Same dealer "checked" our whole electrical system when he replaced the battery. The next day the headlights failed. We got charged $70.00 for a lightbulb. So much for a complete check up!

Model Reviewed: Dodge Durango SLT+ 4x4

Strength:

engine performace and towing POWER, room vs. price, abundance of options, great stereo, spacious compartments, smooooooth ride, high ride.

Weakness:

I can't complain but the Goodyear tires have discolored into two separate rings (one light on walls, one dark near tread) - easily covered by tore spray. White lettering fades fast but factory tires never a last as long as after market. Size and rear weight makes stopping in deep snow trickey, but 4x4 and rear ABS make it easy to get used to and handle.
Gas? What do you expect, it's an SUV!

Totally impressed with everything. After researching various large and small SUV's, the Durango came out #1 for price (get what you pay for), performace, and size. I don't know what power window problems, lack of engine power, rattling or other noises that other people have had, but my fully loaded partime 4x4 5.9L w/leather, rear AC, tow pkg, bigger wheels, running board, etc. is perfect in just about every way. Great for full size adults and kids on long trips, excellent storage for golf clubs, roller blades, and game gear. I have no (unexpected) complaints from this vehicle and was an awesome step up from a two door sedan. This one's a keeper.

Style, comfort, power.

Weakness:

Problems with gear shift between Park and Reverse..sticks in no mans land. Not often but annoying.

I can't wait to drive it, it's an absolute pleasure to be in.

I loved the style as soon as I saw it and the blend of design, functionality and power is perfect for me. I'd buy it again in a heart beat.

Local dealer support is outstanding (Redwood City Dodge), prompt, curtious, and accomidating.

My rating is based on the fact that I have not driven every SUV in the world, so comparison is not possible.

I love every momment in it.

If I had to pick one ...Gas milage...but it's better than a lot of other v-8's out there.

Best vehicle I have owned. Will never go back to a four-banger again. My parents bought a 2000 4x4 SLT Plus, and my sister bought a 2001 4x4 Sport. Lots of room yet still easy to manuver around town. Very comfortable on a long trip even in the third seat.

Strength:

Roomy, 4 wheel drive is great when off roading.

Weakness:

Power windows should work - Dodge should recall this and come up with a better solution. Is the 2001 any better.

Due to the fact that my Durango is currently in the shop for the third time for the same repair, my review is going to be some-what tainted. I have just under 36,000 miles and am upset that I did not purchase the extended warranty. I have had it in the shop 3 times for all 4 power windows not working. The dealership informed me that it is a sealant problem and that it is causing the windows to seal shut. Then, when you try to roll down the window, the motor gets burned out. Dodge is not planning on having a recall any time soon, so the next thime this happens it will come out of my pocket. I asked the dealer if there is anything that I can do, and he said not to leave the car out in temperatures over 90. So, basically that means that I can not leave my car outside in Houston weather for 9 months of the year. (joke)
Anyway, I have also been through 2 batteries, had numerous coolant leaks, but other than that, I love the vehicle.
This is a great vehicle for a family of four. With two kids, we can give them seperate seats so there is less arguing.
I would love for Dodge to address the problems with the vehicle and then I think that the overall ratings would be higher.
If I were to buy another vehicle, I would purchase another Durango. I really love this car, but am worried about the longevity of it (especially after reading the reviews)
If you are looking into purchasing this vehicle, please address these issues and others addressed in comments below with the dealership.

Strength:

4.7 ltr motor.,power, ride quality comfort, reliability, gas milage ( could always be better though)

Weakness:

Gas milage, transmission shifts strangly but its supposedly normal. Cheap electronics. Not too state of the art. Headlights need to be turned on/off manually. Blind spots at front right and left windshield corners.
Cheap stock wheels.

The family of 4 plus a black lab love it. Rides nice. Its been reliable. already have 12k miles. The 4.7 engine is perfect. Plenty of power towing camper or boat. Gas miliage is fine considering its an SUV. We get 18.5 mpg running back and forth to LALA land with full load and A/C running while driving 80 mph in 110 deg heat. We were a little concerned over reports from past owners about the A/C, but it works fine in the 2001. The torgue range is great. Very comfortable on long rides. Third seat good for around town but don't count on big kids sitting there for long periods. Bought the 2WD with running boards mud flaps, bug and wind shields. This is a great looking combination. Wish I has shinier rims which would dress it up. Dodge skimped on those.
