Strength:
I love the 4.7 V8 engine. It takes off strong and sure of itself. I have a family of six. We all fit comfortably and there's plenty of room to stretch. I am impressed with the comfort. The control panel is very accessible. The cruise control works great, and I like it's braking system. I also think it handles well and gives a very comfortable ride for an SUV.
Weakness:
Only the color. It was the last one they had, so I'll live with it. Everything else is exactly perfect for us. We got a real good deal on our sticker price of $29k. The dealership itself was a Godsend. I would recommend the Durango to anyone who likes road trips or off road playing. I can't wait for snow to see how it handles in 4wd! I am a female driver, and I recommend it to either male or female drivers. Similar Products Used: Chevy S10 Blazer - stiff ride, not comfy. |

Strength:
Full of power even when vehicle is full of passengers, seating for 7, a surprisingly smooth ride for an SUV based on a truck chassis, and of course, the cupholders (JK...)
Weakness:
Like everyone else, the gas mileage... Had my D for a little more than two weeks and am totally loving it. Already took the D to Las Vegas from the Bay Area and returned home passing by Los Angeles and then back to San Jose. Of course, I did vary my speeds during the first 500 miles so I could properly break-in the vehicle. With six of us in the D, my mom and her brothers and sisters enjoyed the long trip and didn't even complain. Similar Products Used: Ford Explorer and Expedition, Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo |

SLT+ 2WD 5.9L
Strength:
Styling, Acceleration, Ride, Comfortable and roomy leather interior, 3rd seat, Well built
Weakness:
AC a little weak at 90 degree or higher. It will cool well at highway speeds but not as effective during stop and go, I will get it checked. Interior plastic hard and not as high quality as some competition I chose to wait until the end of year sell off and this paid off. We drove our fully optioned dark green SLT+ 4X2 off the lot for $26,000 vs an invoice cost of $32,000. I Absolutely love the way it drives and its solid, stable feel. 245Hp doesnt seem to hurt either. I knew gas milage would be poor but to be honest, it does not seem any worse than my 95 Blazer LT 4X4 so I will not complain. Highly recommended for those who need more room and power than a compact SUV provides but still would like to be able to park it in their garage Similar Products Used: 95 Chevy Blazer LT, comfortable but too small for my family trips, terrible reliability |

Strength:
I love the acceleration capabilities of the 4.7, it's roomy and the perfect size for an SUV. The power is far better than any SUV I test drove. This can be a family car or an off-road bad boy.
Weakness:
You must put the max AC on to get suitably cool air on a hot summer day. There is a lot of room in this SUV, but I'm 6'5, and sitting in the appropriate driving position, I find myself stooping a little to see the traffic signal. The brakes are questionable, the engine is too loud when first starting off, but then it's OK. Payed 30G's. I do recommend this SUV stock, and you won't beleive the engine with a supercharger(Whoah)!! Similar Products Used: Better than Pathfinder, Tahoe, 4Runner, and Montero, and definately the X-Terra. |

I really like the leather seating, horsepower and torque for this size of vehicle is great with the 5.9l. Bad weather driving with the full time AWD is incredible, who cares if it snows? No service problems to date. It looks mean and tough as a truck should. Towing is a joke (did we bring the trailer honey? Oh there it is...). Wife loves it, great for lugging kids and gear around.
Weakness:
Mileage does bite, especially if you have lead foot syndrome. I would dearly love an updated braking system, this thing should stop faster. It needs another 40 horsepower out of a 5.9l engine in my humble opinion (I'll do that next week, long live Mopar high performance parts catalogue). It handles like a truck (wait a sec, it IS a truck). Mirrors hould slide out an extra six inches for towing. I paid about 30K US for the vehicle (leased it actually) got all the options except bush bumpers and running boards (who wants to hang up on a running board, get a taller wife instead). It behaves well (predictably)at all speeds, I think it feels more solid than the Dakota thanks to the extra weight. The fit and finish on my particular Durango were quite good. I was thinking Four Runner, a test drive convinced me other wise. Attach a chain to a Path Finder and a Durango, back to back, you are unlikely to know it's even on the back of the Durango. Nice job Dodge, fix the darn brakes now please. Great family vehicle but not for the ecology minded. Similar Products Used: Pathfinder (felt like a tin boat in comparison, I bailed on it). Grand Cherokee (nice styling but gave me the heebie jeebies at high speeds off road) Ford Explorer (lets not go there, I got it from my Dad) |

Strength:
As far as 'strengths' go, they are definitely in the dealer's favor. Lot's of curb appeal, snappy V8 engine, nice body styling. Above all, it should serve parts supply houses and mechanical repair facilities very well with a steady demand for parts, repairs, and labor revenues.
Weakness:
The importance of reasonble fuel economy quickly fades away with respect to the mechanically unreliable nature of this vehicle. It is sure to save you a bundle in fuel costs, since it basically starts to wear out at about 40-45K miles. Repair costs are very high, and if you are making monthly car payments in concert, you are sure to be a source of endless entertainment for the Toyota, Nissan, Honda (real sport utility vehicles)owners that may have initially "told you so"! You have much better things to do with your money, and certainly, much better products to buy for a more reasonable overall price. Don't be the sucker that I was. If you own a foreign SUV (like I did), remember the reasons why you do (like I didn't) the next time you are shopping for a new one. They are still more than valid! Similar Products Used: Toyota Forerunner, Toyota truck. Simply put, the Dodge Durango does not compare in every catagory. It's quality is much lower, its price and operating costs are much higher, and reliability is an after thought (Spelled: "ooops, maybe next year"). |

HAD TO REPLACE RIGHT FRONT BALL JOINT AND CV JOINT. STEERING WHEEL RADIO CONTROL BUTTON HAD TO BE REPLACED. REPLACED THERMOSTAT IT STUCK OPEN. NOW AT 41K THE LEFT CV JOINT HAS FAILED AND THE STEERING IS MAKING A TERRIBLE NOISE. PROBABLY JUST THE RUBBER BUSHINGS. ACCELERATION HAS DECREASED. TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. I AM NOT HARD ON MY VEHICLES AND DONT TAKE THEM OFF ROAD. THEY ARE PROPERLY MAINTAINED. THIS LIST OF PROBLEMS THAT SHOULD NOT BE OCCURRING AT 41K. IF YOU LIKE THE LOOKS, BUY IT AND PARK IT IN YOUR DRIVEWAY. IF NOT IT WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY BE PARKED AT THE DOOR OF YOUR LOCAL SERVICE CENTER. Strength:
Looks, engine power & performance, interior size for passangers and storage (get the 3rd row seat).
Weakness:
The obvious....GAS MILAGE. Rear seat release latches should be on outside rather than inside for ease of use. Should have fold away side mirrors. WOW, after 4 years of Van life, its great to be back in SUV land. Without the long boring story about why were looking to get back into a SUV, lets just say unless you need your van to transport 6-7 adults, loose the van and get a Durango. I looked at every mid-size SUV and had narrowed to a 4-Runner and the Durango. In my opinion the 4-Runner just didn't compare. Yes, supposedly the resale might be more 5 years from now but after driving the 4-Runner, it wasn't even a close contest. The Durango looks great, has power to burn, tons of room for the normal 5 passengers and even the back isn't too bad unless you're 250 lbs. and on a 3 hour trip, finally the quality seems to be great. We couldn't be happier with our choice. Similar Products Used: Jeep Cherokee |

Great looks, power and performance to spare, ample storage space, 3rd seat is well designed and gives sufficient room for 7 adults (adults short trips, kids anywhere), quality of construction, AND....its not a mini-van!!
Weakness:
Obviously...GAS MILAGE, thought it would be a little better. The rear seats flip up levers should be on the outside of the seats for easier use. A rear window that is accessable on the lift gate would be super. The side mirrors should be fold away like the caravans. $29,500. Strongly recommend to anyone looking for a Mid-Size SUV. Looked at the Durango and the 4-Runner and just didn't like the Toyota as well. Had heard too many problems with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Yes, 5 years from now the 4-Runner might have a higher resale val but in the mean time...there was no comparision. The Durango looks MUCH better, has tons more power, has more room for passengers and storage...what is there to think about. If the Durango got 5 more miles per gal, it would be the perfect vehicle...at least for my family. My wife never wants to drive the car anymore, what else can I say. Power of 4.7 V8, comfort and looks. Excellent quality. Towing a 2 place snowmobile trailer I forget it's there.
Weakness:
Lack of standard equipment, i.e. 4 wheel antilocks, daytime running lighs. Gas milage could be better, but I would not want to give up the V8. My favorite truck to date!! Excellent combination of quality, styling and performance. Everyone should own a SUV like the Durango. If you tow anythig this is the truck for you. Plenty of room for family and gear. Perfect size for a SUV, others seem like toys. Similar Products Used: Chevy Blazer and GMC Jimmy. No comparison. Dodge quality much higher than GMC |
