Ford Bronco (1996 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Bronco is a sport utility vehicle that was produced from 1966 to 1996, with five distinct generations. The original Bronco was an ORV (Off-Road Vehicle), intended to compete primarily with Jeep CJ models and the International Harvester Scout. The redesign of the second generation Bronco in 1978 was based on a shortened full sized F-100 pickup. It had a removable top and forward folding rear bench seat, similar to the competing Blazer.

(1980 - 1986) The Ford Bronco received a major redesign for 1980, coinciding with the F-Series pick-up truck. The new Bronco was shorter, and had cosmetic changes along with powertrain, suspension and other odds and ends.

(1992 - 1996) The Ford Bronco, along with the F-Series truck, was updated for 1992. The new Bronco was redesigned with safety in mind, incorporating front crumple zones, rear shoulder seat belts, a third brakelight embedded in the removable top, and after 1994, driver-side airbags.

Strong motor and transmission

Weakness:

I run this little SUV as hard as I can and it just keeps on going. Its got a 2.8 Liter V6 5spd. The motor does rattle a little bit but I heard that is common. I take this thing through mud bogs and up really steep hills and it does everything i want it to. The 4 wheel drive system is incredible. Its got 189,000 miles on it and doesnt use a drop of oil. I love this truck and am going to drive it forever.

Strength:

Great power. Turning radius is better than any other truck I have seen for a full size truck. It''s just a great truck.

Weakness:

Rides a little ruff but what can you expect from a real 4x4!

This is a great truck! The truck has 157000 miles and still runs like a brand new truck. I just had to replace the throttle positioning sensor but how can you complain? I''m starting to begin making modifications to realy make it a awsome truck. If you might have some ideas about some engine modifications I could do please email me.

the unstoppable 5.0L, 4wd Low for those steep hills and dunes, short wheelbase awesome for hilly terrain

Weakness:

short wheel base SUCKS in the snow, and wish I had the xlt interior with the armrests.

I went from a 1990 Isuzu trooper to my All-American ''86 Ford Bronco. HUGE difference. This truck is a year younger then me and has taken everything I can dish out. We''re talkin sand dunes, mud, powerlines, even jumped it a few times. And this thing still gets me back and forth to school everyday. Only modiffications are a 2.5" sus lift and 33x12.5" tires. (e-mail me for pics of the beast in action, and send me yours, or to go off-roading if in the cape cod area)

Strength:

1. Low-maintenance 2. Engine strength 3. Workability/flexibility (especially w/ removable top!) 4. Durability 5. Styling 6. Easy to modify / personalize.

Weakness:

1. Fuel economy 2. Gas mileage 3. Petroleum product usage 4. Internal combustion food to run engine. HOWEVER YOU WANT TO SAY IT: IT EATS GAS!!!!!!!!

5.0 (302) fuel injected with 11,000 lb. towing pkg. Stock 31.5 gallon fuel tank (which it needs desperately). No sissy carpet in here - after hunting / working / mud-bogging - just open it up and hose it out! There are some slight rust spots about 1/4" wide starting to show thru the paint around the left rear fender well. NO OTHER RUST ANYWHERE!! Only one modification: 33" mud and snow tires on a 2" lift. 185,000 miles and still going! This truck is awesome! I previously owned a 1979 and now have this one. The best truck ever built! This truck has had NO maintenance to the drivetrain EVER! (Other than oil changes, etc.) I finally replaced the alternator at 184,750 miles and the power steering pump is hurting (probably from the tires). The motor is a lot weaker now, as I use / lose about a quart of oil per week. The truck has been so good, I''ll never buy a new one! I plan to completely disassemble "Big Blue" this spring and rebuild right! I plan to modify the 302 with 351 heads and an oversize cam, on-board programmable TPS, O2 and Fuel control adjustment software. I will lift the truck 4" more and stiffen the suspension! Paint scheme will honor the Philadelphia Eagles with custom vinyl seats with the Eagles helmet on one seat back and the Mascot on the other! As a stock truck I have pulled, worked, raced, ran, drove, and abused it. Now I will give her the return investment she deserves!! If you want a 4X4, but need room for kids/family/hunting buddies, and still want a truck...get a full-size Bronco!! This is a vehicle I have found that does it all!

Strength:

POWER (5.0 is very strong), Roomy in the extreme, very comfortable seats, turning radius is exceptional, ride is a bit rough but this aint your moms car either, looks like it can kick your butt just standing still, 17mpg isnt bad for a V8. Many more but enough said.

Weakness:

Only complaint is a bumping noise coming from the back end when the truck comes to a complete stop, and the supension comes to rest; and when I take off and the suspension rocks back with the momentum it makes the same sound. If anyone has any ideas as to why it does this I''de like to hear them. Otherwise no complaints.

WOW, I''m one of those guys that always thought that "imports" were the way to go. But I''m a changed man. I bought my Bronco after looking at 10 or 12 in town, and apparently go one that belonged to a soccer mom or something because this thing is pristine! Plus it booked out at 13,500 and I got it alot cheaper, with 88k on it. Anyhow, I LOVE IT. How many times can it be said; POWER. Love this truck. Turns on a dime, runs like a dream, and I''m actually getting 17mpg in this beast, city or highway. Now in all fairness I''ve just had it over 4 months but I am totally impressed, and as time goes by I''ll be writing back.

Weakness:

rust problems around back doors and rear wheels

good trucks better than newer dodge, jimmy and blazer. looks great lots of room would not consider any other truck. my 86 has more room than my 90 but the 90 is more like a casual truck and the 86 is more for work.

Strength:

302EFI has lots of power and AOD4E shifts smoothly, will "wheel" over almost anything in its way. 4 wheel drive is as solid as it gets, shifts very well from 2-4 wheel and into low range. Very good suspention smooth on road and will RTI almost 700 in stock form not bad by ANYONES STANDARDS!

Weakness:

Fuel economy is poor but it''s the nature of the beast. The Bronco had its own share of issues when purchased (nickel and dime stuff) but we worked through them, typical things associated with a 60,000 plus mile vehicle ( brakes, shocks, tail gate cables, stuff like that) nothing noteworthy.

Outstanding room on inside, great looks on outside, 302 V8 and auto trans are very smooth will cruise 70 mph @2000 rpms. Has the "stick shift" BW 13-45 transfer case w/ manual shift(push buttons seem whimpy to me)I put on 31X11.5 Dunlops on with no mods and no rubbing on or off road. A real eye catcher with rear roof removed. I love the way can see everything in front of you, has enough windows so blind spots are at a minimum. Very LARGE vehicle and demands attention no matter where you are, but on the other hand is very menuverable for its size thanks to its short wheel base and tight turning radius. I''ve owned the truck for about 6 months and really enjoy driving it. Would recommend this vehile to anyone looking for a SUV with style, tuffness and class without the "Suzy soccer mom" image. One thing to remember that this is after all a truck being based on Fords F-150 chassis design. If your not ready to deal with a little rough ride or can''t judge distance(you know who you are) buy a "cute-ute" but don''t expect to run with the big dogs, those under powered roller skates are better suited for girls going to college and pizza delivery. Sport-ute cars ( Suburu Outback, Olsmobile? Montana, Volvo Cross Country) are just plain silly. Just remember a tin can by any other name is still a tin can!!! And a last comment PLEASE STOP LOWERING SPORT UTES OF ANY KIND YOU LOOK LIKE IDOITS!!!!

Babe magnet. Automatic exercise machine. With back top off, zippered canvas quarter top and pickup truck tool box for secure storage of booze, pistol, hand and power tools, stereo pull-out and amp mounts Billy was versatile. Billy had it all work truck, party truck, pick up truck (as in women), overhead rack for lumber, boats, kayaks, surf boards, etc. Billy and I had a wife for a while and she would drive every once in awhile, she said guys would leave notes, stop her in a parking lot, and talk to her at traffic lights. She was blonde and good looking but her IROC Camaro didn''t draw much attention. When see would get home from driving Billy she would check her biceps out in the mirror. Billy was a good ride for a woman too!

Weakness:

No air conditioning and I should have put a sun roof in front roof. A little noisy hard to talk on phone with off road tires.

Bought(Bronco)Billy becuase of front axle, and locker rear with granny four speed. The steering gear box sucked even after replacing it could never get the sloppiness out of steering. Power steering pump went out and I just took it off, it was a rush to drive in tight spots at speed, incredible exercise. Billy had a mind of his own, I went in a 7-11 store early on a cold morning and left Billy running to warm up, (kept back top off with a zippered canvas window behind front seat)I thought I put the emergency brake on but when I went outside Billy was gone. He was down the parking lot by the gas pumps. Billy strayed but he was not stupid, he didn''t hit the pumps! Another time I looked out my back door to see what the dogs were barking about and Billy is rolling down the hill in my back yard (80 acre field)and the dogs are chasin and barking at him. The first time he ran off I thought I forgot to set the emergency brake becuase I was hung over from the night before, the second time I guessed I was just getting old. But emergency brake set would pop off when Billy was restless, almost didn''t fix it, too much fun laughing at wild Billy. Billy just liked to screw with me, the headlights would go out and you would have to jiggle the switch around to get them to come on, but Billy would always do that on a narrow curvy country road, no moon for light and with at least one oncoming car. Billy knew how to get my heart pumping. Women loved Billy as long as they didn''t have to drive him, no power steering pump. A big snow storm in Louisville KY shut down the city and news was announcing hospitals needed four wheel drive trucks to ferry nurses to work, Billy and I had no problem with that! At the time he had 15x10 rims with 235x78 15 all weather car tires, with the locker rear end I never locked in 4 wheel in 20 some inches of snow, except to show some nurses that Billy was as good as he looked by climbing some piled up snow. Billy''s last paint job was trunk splatter paint, Billy got a lot of compliments, I told people that when I bought the paint I didn''t have glasses on and thought trunk paint was truck paint. Everybody liked Billy. Great truck and friend even with 220k miles plus, 16 mpg (low gears) and 3500 miles to a quart of oil. I miss Billy there are many more Billy chronicles. I left Billy set for year but he was lonely so another hillbilly took him home.
