Ford Bronco (1996 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Bronco is a sport utility vehicle that was produced from 1966 to 1996, with five distinct generations. The original Bronco was an ORV (Off-Road Vehicle), intended to compete primarily with Jeep CJ models and the International Harvester Scout. The redesign of the second generation Bronco in 1978 was based on a shortened full sized F-100 pickup. It had a removable top and forward folding rear bench seat, similar to the competing Blazer.

(1980 - 1986) The Ford Bronco received a major redesign for 1980, coinciding with the F-Series pick-up truck. The new Bronco was shorter, and had cosmetic changes along with powertrain, suspension and other odds and ends.

(1992 - 1996) The Ford Bronco, along with the F-Series truck, was updated for 1992. The new Bronco was redesigned with safety in mind, incorporating front crumple zones, rear shoulder seat belts, a third brakelight embedded in the removable top, and after 1994, driver-side airbags.

The short wheel base will beat any SUV out there. Strong running 302 with 121,000 on it. All orginal. Best truck out there for towing and plowing.

Weakness:

The rust is the worst on these vehicals. The gas millage stinks but i suck it up cuz these trucks are head turners even with stock parts.

I am planning to get a new tailgate and already started the rear wheel weels. whould like to put 33's on it with a lift kit but the pocket is getting smaller and dual exshaust. I love this truck nrver got it stuck. NEVER. Beats anything in the trails

tough, Built like a brick s.h., Dick cepek 6.5 and 3" body lift make a total of 9.5 " of lift, Sitting on 35x12.5x15 Super Swamper SSR's, looks so tight, Exhaust done by Rams service in Garden Grove 714-537-2061..this was a huge improvement Rams installed headers and a high flow cat which increased my h.p. by 25-30 and it sounds so throaty like an idling dragster, it also improved my fuel economy, the space is awesome and the turning radius is killer, with the lift I tower over most other s.u.v's

Weakness:

e40d tranny..went out at 105,000 miles..right after my 100,000 mile warranty expired...sucked, fuel economy is kind of bad but I have a Superduty v10 which makes the Bronco's economy look good

The bronco is an awesome truck it handles great, turns in small areas, only major problem so far was the tranny, It looks so good lifted 9.5" and sittin on swampers total chick catcher also I run 3 jl 12w-6's and a 1000 watt amp to em..lots of space for the speaker box and cargo, The exhaust work sounds so good and vastly improved power and economy. I love my Bronco and will never sell it.

Strength:

Durability (300,000+ miles with minor maintenance). Ride (very comfortable, quiet, and stable). Cost (local Bronco prices are dropping, making it a steal). The single best 4x4 drive-train I've ever used. Safety (people avoid large trucks, and too, there is enough weight to reduce potential injuries).

Weakness:

Aluminum chain cover and thermostat housing are at the age of requiring replacement (this of course is common with all manufacturers who use aluminum), but a good cast iron thermostat housing is available. I personally would prefer crank windows over electric. Rear fender rust is one problem spot.

Used as a farm truck mostly, for driving back and forth to town, through extremely rough and muddy roads. 300,000+ miles so far on original engine and drive train (may need a rebuild in another couple hundred thousand miles). As with all vehicles reaching this age, all aluminum and plastic parts will be needing replaced. Safety is important to us, which the Bronco provides. The wife and I are looking for a second vehicle, but instead of buying a new car (with aluminum engines every one), we've decided to buy another Bronco. Considering what other vehicles are available, we can't find anything better suited for our needs of dependability, safety, all weather use, and comfort.

Similar Products Used:

Blazers and Silverado pickups I've had required weekly repairs over our roads, but the Bronco has held up to over 6 years of constant use without *any* trouble due to road conditions. A new 1991 4.0 Ranger I owned with electric 4x4 did so-so, but could never compete with a Bronco. Local residents drive almost every make and model truck available, and they have all broken down repeatedly.

Strength:

i really like how this vehicle handles on and off road. it will hold a fast turn and will make a really tight turn. the engine(302 5.0L, best engine for aftermarket parts) works great. it is a new engine with only 20,000 miles. i have put accel 300+ spark plug wires, accel 50,000 volt coil,k and n performance induction kit,a throttle body spacer, and duel exhaust. soon i will be adding headers, a chip, and maaybe a new cam. i use 93 octane gas to add power.

Weakness:

the gas mileage isnt the greatest. i get probably 15 to 17mpg. after i added the spark plug wires coil and k and n performance injection kit the gas milage has gone up a few mpg. it has a kinda rough ride but not very bad.

i would recomend this truck because it is a solid truck that can take anything and will give you everything it has. you can drive off of a cliff and survive because it is such a beast. this is a great truck for the younger driver who wants to look like he is superior and has more power over people. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED I AM SELLING. WRITE HTIMSSITRUC@AOL.COM WITH A PRICE AND I WILL CONSIDER.

Strength:

Very little maintenence on it over 150,000 miles. Great power for the engine size and weight of the vehicle. Always starts first time. Looks good, lotsa room, my wife hates to drive it because it's so big (that's a bonus).

Weakness:

Paint is fading somewhat, but it's 13 years old and should have been waxed more often (oops!). The rear window motor has had a habit (twice) of wearing out but I finally ran across a stud mechanic that told me that Ford used nylon bearings in the motor and if you just replace those with steel ones it'll run forever. No more $200 window motor replacements! It cost me $35 for him to do it. That's it for the weaknesses.

This is just a gutsy truck. I hate to even call it an SUV because that
sounds like a soccer mom's vehicle. It's tough like a truck but just happens to have a large back seat and a cover over it! I'm going to step up to the last model of Bronco they made next. I love never having to go to the repair shop and knowing that when I have to drive through some nasty terrain that I'll get through it with no problems. If you're thinking about buying a Bronco, go for it. You'll love it!

Strength:

Best truck I have ever driven, 351 has plenty of power (my other car is a 400hp Mustang), good interior the leather has held up well, it is like a tank I no longer worry about somebody hitting me, turns quick and accelerates good, I have never needed to ingage the 4 wheel drive (even in 6 inches of mud), easy to work on, I have 31x10.50 on it but would like some 32x11.50. The bigger tires look much better than the stock size. One of the last true pushrod tuff trucks made, well built great truck, I want to buy another one!

Weakness:

I have never ingaged the 4 wheel drive because the POS auto hubs are broken. I recently replaced them w/ Warn Manual Premium Hubs (this is a must and should come standard). You must rotate the tires every 5000 miles or so because the front suspension is hard on tires. It leakes somewhere because after a good rain it has a faint mildew scent. If anyone knows where the damn thing leaks let me know because I can't find the leak. I just let it air out for a few hours and as good as new. Of course the gas milage sucks but I drive it 80 mph everywhere and it is a big ass truck with a 351!

I would highly recomend the full size Broncos. They are well built and easy to work on. Parts are cheap and you can pile the miles on and abuse the things if you want. My Bronco has 107,000+ miles and runs like a new truck.

Full size Blazer/Tahoe - Newer Chevys kind suck! People I know drive them when they are not in the shop. My best freind drove a 96 Tahoe 2 door and it was always in the shop. They have interior problems (like most GMC products) and some minor but annoying drivetrain problems. I like the interior of the Bronco much, much, much more that the Tahoe.

Strength:

Good power, great stock off-road capabilities, dependable. If you can find a used one in good shape and low miles, buy it and KEEP IT.

Weakness:

My red paint is finally starting to fade, but it's 13 years old. Rear window motor tends to fail but swap out the bearings and it shouldn't fail again.

The reviews before mine just about said it all. This is one awesome vehicle. Not extra fancy on styling, but tough and dependable. Gas mileage stinks but you're not buying a Yugo here. I have about 150k on mine and I've never had to do anything but usual maintenance. The rear window motor tends to die, BUT I finally found a great mechanic that told me they put nylon bearings in it and that if you'll swap them for metal ones it'll last for years!

If I can bring myself to part with it, I'll probably buy the last model year of the Bronco. You can't go wrong buying one of these. I seldom write reviews but this vehicle deserves to be recognized for its quality, which is hard to find nowadays.
