Ford Bronco (1996 and older) SUV | Crossover

Ford Bronco (1996 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Bronco is a sport utility vehicle that was produced from 1966 to 1996, with five distinct generations. The original Bronco was an ORV (Off-Road Vehicle), intended to compete primarily with Jeep CJ models and the International Harvester Scout. The redesign of the second generation Bronco in 1978 was based on a shortened full sized F-100 pickup. It had a removable top and forward folding rear bench seat, similar to the competing Blazer.

(1980 - 1986) The Ford Bronco received a major redesign for 1980, coinciding with the F-Series pick-up truck. The new Bronco was shorter, and had cosmetic changes along with powertrain, suspension and other odds and ends.

(1992 - 1996) The Ford Bronco, along with the F-Series truck, was updated for 1992. The new Bronco was redesigned with safety in mind, incorporating front crumple zones, rear shoulder seat belts, a third brakelight embedded in the removable top, and after 1994, driver-side airbags.

Strength:

I love the power it has. THe four wheel drive is used only when the mud comes up to the doors. The perfect offraod vehicle, the best ford has ever made.

Weakness:

mine has a tendency to rust

i recommend this vehicle because it is the best offroad machine without all those mods. that any other one takes to go in the same places.

it is alot better than a jeep and blazer, way much better than a ramcharger

The thing has got BIGGER BALLS than anything else out there. (when fairly compared of course.) You steer, it'll take you wherever you wanna go. Unbelievable climbability. Excellent room inside. Awesome cargo space, Sexiest body I've ever seen on an SUV. Even the factory Audio is decent. Love being able to look down on everyone while driving. I also love how I can beat most CARS off the line.

Weakness:

Oil Drip from rear main seal - don't wanna spend $800 to get it fixed so I'll just add another quart of oil every 2 weeks. Clunky tranny. Rear window motor dyin on me.

OF course, its the best darn SUV out there. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone....except the people who wont take advantage of its features. If you're not gonna 4wheel with it, or tow, why buy it? Dont., Only buy it if you can afford a mod or fix every now and then.

Tough TRUCK, not a preppie/mommy stationwagon with 56 cup holders and leather seats...........Good traction, tuff as nails, reliable as old faithful. Mondo room inside, left me walking once in 18 years due to failed duro spark module.......about 2 yrs. ago.

Weakness:

crappy 2 bbl carb........rusty tailgate and sorry electric window...if it wasn't for the tailgate problems, it'd be perfect. But hey, who's perfect?

They are getting old, but are really trucks, not panty waisted stationwagons in drag. Go for it if you want a reliable, tuff, off road SOB, the only thing better is CJ jeep, but its small, open and where can you get a good one? Avoid the crappy 2 bbl 302 from '82 or '83 if you can, the motor is ok, but the carb and EGR system will cause problems, or you could replace the manifold, and carb.......good luck buds.

Strength:

The 351 is a great engine with good power. The tight turning radius makes it very manueverable on and off road. Excellent towing capabilities.

Weakness:

A lot of the interior components such as door panels get a little noisy from screws coming loose. Would like to upgrade the brakes as well. No need to complain about the ride, this is a real truck.

This has been an excellent truck. I have put almost 160K on this truck and have had very few problems. As I mentioned, it is a great do-all truck; tows, off-road capabilities, cargo space, etc. etc...I considered trading it in next year for a new truck and then came to my senses. Instead I'm going to repaint it and sink some additional money into upgrades here and there. Folks, this was THE last SUV made that qualifies as a real truck. So, if you're looking for a "drive the kids to soccer practice" vehicle, this is not the truck for you.

Sorry, nothing comes close to the all-around package of the Bronco. A real do-all truck.

Strength:

Where do I start. Perfect size. Great cargo space and leg room. C-6 tranny is hard to beat. The 351 is an umstoppable powerhouse that easy as can be to do repairs on if ever needed. Parts are readily available as well as aftermarket upgrades. Not to mention that not many trucks are able to fit 33's stock. My steering is good. Brakes are good. Its an older truck but I havent had any problems except electrical. Overall nothing compares.

Weakness:

Considering its the perfect truck, I dont see any weaknesses.

A person would have no reason not to buy this truck. It would be a great first truck for a kid bc of its lack of repairs needed and reliability. Its a great soccer mom truck bc of all the room. Its a great daily driver bc of the handling and dependability. Its a great hunting truck bc off road its unstoppable. Overall nothing can compare to the bronco. Hopefully if Ford brings the bronco back it will still be offered in the same configuration it always has, 2door, 4wheel drive, and tough as hell.

Similar Products Used:

I've used jeeps, international's and blazers. Jeep offer no room and no power and no stability. Blazers are chevy, need I say more. They barely run and break all the time. The only thing that makes a distant comparison is the international scout II. But let me stress distant

Perfect Size. Roomy, but Compact. Quick, and Powerfull. Can take the Top Off!

Weakness:

Nothing at all!

This is the BEST Truck I've ever owned. I like the way it handles. I like its Size. I LOVE looking down on almost everything else on the road. 351W has plenty of power to do just about anything - Put it in 4 Low and it will climb almost straight up! 32" Tires fit with room to spare on the stock suspension (Even though I want to lift it another 4" and put 33" Tires on it). Great turning radius, Great Approach and Departure clearance. Best all around 4x4 out there. I hope Ford comes out with a new one. I'll be in line for it!

Way more Stable than a 4Runner. Much wider than a Toyota 4x4. More powerfull than a Jeep.

Strength:

My 88 was a 302 with the Mazda 5-speed. It was a no nonsense go anywhere vehicle. I used it for many years as a command vehicle for our local volunteer fire department. Great turning radius and excellent offroad behavior with a stock lift and 31" tires. Don't think I could live without the electric rear glass window. Body on frame construction may turn off some soccer moms but this is the only way to go with an OHV.

Weakness:

8.8 rear axle is too weak for this vehicle. If you want a 5-speed try finding one with the ZF, it will have the granny gear 1st gear. It's much stronger than the Mazda 5-speed. The wheelbase is to short for towing large loads, the truck wants to wander all over the road. Avoid the 92-93 models with E4OD auto trannys unless they have been upgraded. These trannys had problems and were/are expensive to fix. Rust problems with tailgates and roof drip molding, the factory replacement for the tailgate takes care of the rust problems but you will be fixing the drip molds every couple years or so.

I had my 88 Eddie Bauer for 11 years and loved it, even with its shortcomings. This is not a soccer mom mall cruiser and it can be tempermental on the highway. Offroad there is no better vehicle. You will learn how to change gear assemblies in the window motors as they fail often enough. Replace the auto hubs with either milemarker or warn premium manual hubs as the auto hubs are a weak link. If you are in the market to buy a Bronco, avoid the pushbutton transfer case if you can. You'll only end up wanting to replace it with a manual transfer case. The shift motors in these units tend to fail at the most inappropriate times. For someone looking for a bare bones OHV to play with you can't beat the price of a good used Bronco Custom. This is the base model without a lot of fluff but it's just the truck to thrash through the woods in. I liked the Bronco so much that when my needs required a longer wheelbase and 2 more doors, I skipped the Suburbans and went for a Centurion Classic Bronco. Picture a Bronco from the "B" pillar back welded to a crew cab front replacing from the "C" pillar back. It loses some nimbleness and with 139" wheelbase it doesn't turn as well but it still has the Bronco look and feel.

84 GMC Jimmy - Did not have padded dashes and was not as reliable.

The 5.8 liter 351 kicks butt on the drails and down the interstate, i have lifted my ford about 4" and now 33/12.50/15 tires sit under it, they are so much nicer than 31's ! it loves me almost as much as I love it.

Weakness:

the IFS front end, so i took it out and threw a dana 60 in the front.

I love my truck, it has seen about 10 g's so far, yeah I know i could've boughten a brand new car, but instead I have a 95 bronco lifted 4" new axles, new transfer case, and many, many other 4 wheelin' mods.

it's the best truck out there, i can't even begin to count the number of times i have pulled chevy's and jeep's out of mud pits with my winch.
