Ford Bronco (1996 and older) SUV | Crossover

Ford Bronco (1996 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Bronco is a sport utility vehicle that was produced from 1966 to 1996, with five distinct generations. The original Bronco was an ORV (Off-Road Vehicle), intended to compete primarily with Jeep CJ models and the International Harvester Scout. The redesign of the second generation Bronco in 1978 was based on a shortened full sized F-100 pickup. It had a removable top and forward folding rear bench seat, similar to the competing Blazer.

(1980 - 1986) The Ford Bronco received a major redesign for 1980, coinciding with the F-Series pick-up truck. The new Bronco was shorter, and had cosmetic changes along with powertrain, suspension and other odds and ends.

(1992 - 1996) The Ford Bronco, along with the F-Series truck, was updated for 1992. The new Bronco was redesigned with safety in mind, incorporating front crumple zones, rear shoulder seat belts, a third brakelight embedded in the removable top, and after 1994, driver-side airbags.

Strength:

Strong motor, trans and body. Does great on and off road. Enough power to pull itself outta sticky situations. Nice amount of aftermarket accessories to keep me satisfied.

Weakness:

OBD-II computer controlled electronics - Check engine light comes on every now and then for no reason. Rust protection could be a little better. Tailgate was all ready starting to rust at the window seal. Transmission a little clunky. But all in all, it's a must have.

I payed about 33,000 for my my 96 eddie bauer with 28k miles on the 302c.i. motor. The driver and passenger seat has a great amount of room for people over 6 feet. The Cargo area is very spacious. 31 inch tires fit beautifully, and fill out the wheel wells, as well as making it look tough as it really is. I was able to get dual exhaust on it from the manifolds back, and straight out the rear with a pair of sweet sounding flowmaster mufflers. Tow's a trailer with the greatest of ease. Most mods I've done myself. Nothing compares to Bronco's. The rides a little rough, but it's an Suv, right? I would definatly recommend it to anyone. I don't ever wanna give it up.

Strength:

I live in texas and the terrain out here can put wear and tear on just about any vehicle, but my Bronco just keeps asking for more. My friends get stuck in the muddy ditches around my farm house and there chevy's try and strain to get out but they can't. I can go out there and pull them out without even putting it in 4WD. My Bronco can get out of just about anything and if you did like I did and lifted it and put it on some oversized mud tires well, they can look down right mean. The air conditioner works beautifully and the cruise control stays right-on where it was set. This truck I recommend for the person who likes to pull people out of the mud then laugh at them. this truck also is unstoppable while mudding. you can also look pretty cool with the top down driving around with the wind blowing through your hair!

Weakness:

most of the 89's drink plenty of gas, and well mine is no exception.with my experiences if the back window goes out it is hard to find someone to repair it.

I bought mine off of an old man who ddidnt want to sell it but couldnt climb in or out any more due to his back.he kept very good care of it. I recommend the 89 Ford Bronco to anyone who wants a reliable truck which is good for on road and off road use and for anyone who just likes to have fun!!!

Strength:

Power, Power, and more power. This thing could tow just about anything. Good highway power. Great cruise control. Pegs whatever speed you set it at and stays there. No matter how big the hill. When merging on short interstate ramps when full throttle is applied it feels like the front end is going off the ground. Never trecked across the pacific ocean.

Weakness:

Poor gas mileage, somewhat rough ride. But hey its a real truck.

Paid 15,000 for it. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a real classic American truck. Much better that a little Explorer. Basically indestructable off road. Very masculine truck. With the 93, Ford finally resolved the aging tailgate rust problem and it worked well. Not for mommy to hall kids around though. Quite a pain to climb into the back seats. Great for the American outdoorsman.

Chevrolet full size blazer, very similar. Toyota 4Runner has a smoother ride but doesent even come anywhere close to the Bronco's raw power.

Strength:

The sucker just wont die! I have 125K miles on it, and it drives like it did when i bought it more than two years ago with 47K. It handles on pavement like a sports car, and flies thru the air with the greatest of ease. The balance is perfect! Damn near 50/50 weight distribution... actually, it's a little heaver in the rear, about 40lbs. The ergonomics are very comfortable, it fits me well.

Weakness:

Rust. Though my friend's '96 seems to fare quite a bit better.

This truck takes a beating and keeps on movin. I wish Ford would have done a bit better in the rust-prevention department, but it's still fixable. (Hmm... fender flares come to mind!) I haven't seen a better truck for $13,000 yet. The lack of a dual-exhaust system is disappoing, but there isn't much room around that fuel tank.

If you want a truck that goes thru just about anything, jumps RR tracks on a daily basis, and handles well (HA! Better than a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT I rented for a week of business travel!), this is it. No wimps, pimps, or rice allowed.

Strength:

The Ford Bronco is the BEST vechile you will ever own! This truck is not for the weak, it is a tough, brute heavyweight that will get you from place to place regardless of the conditions. My Bronco has not ever left me stranded, it has started every morning and never felt as if it were to quit. There is one immataion, dont want to name names but what the heck, its the Chevrolet Blazer. This trucks handles so well for a 2.5 ton beast. The Bronco will not ever be replaced, by any automaker, not even Ford. Even if Ford did decide to bring it back, the truck just wont be itself.

Weakness:

The steering is very loose, you have got to have some arm muscle to go over the slightest bump in the road. During windy conditions it has a tendency to literaly "rule the road."

I bought this truck back in 1980 as a 1981 model for $15,000. It is the top-of-the-line Ranger XLT. I would recommend this truck to anyone who likes a bulky, 2.5 ton vehcle that can take down any and every other truck on the road, or in this case, the trail.

Strength:

Love the power and the ability to pull things. (Especially people out of the mud) Large area for driver and passengers make for a comfortable ride.

Weakness:

With all that power you have to sacrifice something so i guess it is gas millage.

I recommend this to anyone looking for a real SUV that you will never want to get rid of .

Strength:

Powerful engine, fun to drive and exceptional turning radius for a large vehicle. I think Broncos handle very good. Most people say I drive my Bronco like a car...that is because it can be driven like one - even at 107 MPH. Spacious interior makes it comfortable in long trips. Tough body and construction. The ability to remove the roof adds fun.

Weakness:

Gas...180,000 miles. $1 of gas for every 10 miles. You do the math. Too wide to drive in some trails off-road. Affected by cross-winds, driving with two hands solves this problem. The transmission could be a bit smoother.

The Bronco is a basic but well-designed truck. The creature comforts are sparse on the inside but what options that was left behind by Ford is well laid out and functional. This can be advantageous because fewer things can go wrong and break, and can add to the true feel of this truck. Most repairs for the Bronco are easy or straightforward. Friends of mine who disliked SUVs would later change their minds after driving my Bronco. I would not recommend this vehicle to women, especially those who talk on the cellphone all day. A good perception of space is required in order to park. It can be hard sometimes but with such a short wheelbase, the driver must realize that it can park in most tight parallel parking spots like any other car.

Strength:

This SUV is HEAVEN SENT!!! I have the Eddie Bauer with leather seats and the 5.8L motor....absolute heaven...I was driving nurses in 2 feet of snow with NO problem! I tow my boat with NO problem! I added a K&N air filter and went with dual exhaust from the cat back and WOW!!! To make sure I went and test drove an Expedition....No comparison...my Bronco has a heck of a lot more room for driver and passenger and a "real" feel...and it feels snappier than the 5.4L Triton...If you gave me an Expedition...I'd sell it and buy another Bronco!

Weakness:

I think the wheelbase could be a little longer...when towing the longer wheelbase provides more stability. Transmission is a little "clunky".

I paid 18,000 for a 1996 Bronco Eddie Bauer with leather and a 5.8L with 35,000 miles in 1999....If I could find another one I'd buy it! With things like this it's all about what YOU want. I started out wanting a Bronco and couldn't find one and then started looking at the Tahoe and Suburban....If the Chevy was about a foot wider...that's what I would be driving. The Bronco has NO COMPARISON in my book. If this is the truck you're thinking about...check around with all manufactuers...and then come home..to the REAL FORD!....

Similar Products Used:

Test drove the Expedition...the EX is smoother, doesn't have nearly as much room for the driver and passenger.....power...felt like my Bronco was more powerful but not as smooth....the trans on the EX is REALLY smooth but when you get in the gas on the highway it felt sluggish compared to my Bronco.
Isuzu RODEO....NO COMPARISON.
1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee= 4 Wheel drive CAR. nice but not a TRUCK.
1999 Durango...nice truck...but not worth the money...trans problems...and when comparing it to the Bronco....The Durango isn't a TRUCK...
1997 Tahoe/Suburban....TOO narrow! Drives like a BUS...long and narrow. The 350ci didn't pull that hard and the brakes sucked!

Strength:

The TOUGHEST trucks I've ever owned! Very reliable, extremly strong, and fun to drive! Execellent power! I pulled two cars out of the snow in 1999 and didn't even have to put my 1979 into 4 Wheel Drive! These trucks are very comfortable too. The back seat is also removable for hauling large materials, and the top is also removable.

Weakness:

NONE

I paid $3,200.00 for my 1979 in 1995, and since then I bought three more! Another 1979, 1980, and 1985. All full-size. I would definitly recommend these trucks for people who like to drive. Especially in offroad conditions.

Similar Products Used:

I used to own a 1992 Jeep Wrangler, but I sold it because it wasn't as strong as the Broncos. Jeeps also tend to rollover in offroad situations. Plus the Bronco has a wider stance and longer wheelbase than the Jeep, and it's not as bouncy either.
