Ford Escape (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Escape is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, and lead the small SUV class back when it was first introduced in 2001. Although changes have continued to be made to the Escape over the last ten years, its exterior and interior designs are looking dated compared to the competition.

The XLS FWD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 171-horsepower engine that achieves 22-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The Limited Hybrid 4WD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 153-horsepower, hybrid engine that achieves 29-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway. A variable speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The Ford Escape gets good fuel economy with its standard 4-cylinder engine and it offers a long list of high tech features and options such as the Ford SYNC entertainment system, programmable MyKey and active park assist, a system which allows the Escape to parallel park itself with very little driver involvement.

Strength:

Drives smooth

Weakness:

Problem 1. Now awaiting service appointment to find out why the "Air Bag Indicator Light" is now on for good? Problem 2. Seal inside vehicle moon-roof has come loose and dealership said they would need to have the car overnight to repair this one. Annoyance # 1. I don't like the feel of the automatic transmission stick shifting. I have a concern this will develop into a problem since it does not always shift smoothly.

Nice feel driving and nice leg room but have had some problems with the vehicle.

Strength:

Gas mileage Handling Sound quality

Weakness:

Wind noise (just turn the bass up!!!)

I like the escape. The handling is rather good, the 4X4 is quite responsive and the sound system is excellent.... considering my 2 10" Bazookas in the trunk. I would recommend this car to anyone. Have not folded the rear seats, but heard room is a plus, as well!

Strength:

Great in ice and snow. Fun to drive. Since it is yellow easy to see in the parking lot. Great power.

Weakness:

Little noisy on the highway. But what do you expect with an SUV.

Very Happy I purchased the car used. Had about 20000 miles on it. The look of the car was that it was brand new. We have been driving this vehicle a lot. All three of my family members prefer using the SUV so its getting a lot of miles. No problems to date.

I HAVE BEEN HAVING BIG TIME PROBLEMS WITH MY FORD ESCAPE AND I AM SEARCHING TO SEE IF ANY ONE ELSE IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. IT SEEMS TO CHOOSE IF IT WILL START FROM ONE DAY TO THE NEXT. WE HAVE TAKEN IT IN 5 TIMES AND THE DEALERS CAN'T GET IT TO DO WHAT IT DOES FOR US. I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN DEC 2000 AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS YEAR. WE HAVE TO PRESS ON THE GAS PEDDLE FOR IT TO START. SOME DAYS IT STARTS RIGHT UP THEN OTHERS NOTHING. IS ANY ONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM???? PLEASE LET US KNOW. THANKS

Strength:

Drives like a car.Not some luxo beast where you feel isolated from the road, but a japanese sports sedan, which is a good thing.Lots of space but still easy to park.Little. Yellow. Different.

Weakness:

4WD- it only comes on when it feels like it from what I can tell. I switch it to manual 4WD but it doesnt immediatly go there.I want 4WD before I have a problem, not during or after! Gas mileage even in the 4 cyl model could be better. Its a bit of a trade off. You go 4 cyl for economy but you usually have to floor it to get decent acceleration.

Wanted a SUV but didnt want a gas guzzler so I got the 4 cyl.The mileage is a little disapointing, but I had a 4 cyl. car before. It gets me to work regardless of conditions and hauls lots of stuff on the weekends.I never thought I would say this about a Ford product but I love it!

Strength:

Styling Good in snow and ice

Weakness:

Uncomfortable Gas Mileage doesn't live up to hype Poor design on interior Excessive brake dust on front wheels

Attractive looking SUV. Handles like a car - excellent in the snow and ice. Gas mileage is so-so, although I previously drove a Volkswagen Jetta so there is no comparison there. Am disappointed in the comfort - the seats are extremely uncomfortable for any lengthy trips. Also, the rear seat folds down, but it's either all or nothing - a 60/40 split would enable me to take advantage of the cargo space when one of my children is riding in the back. I probably wouldn't recommend this car to anyone - it's okay at best - and it has been very reliable to date.

I have the sports package and the rack on top looks great. Nice size. But it is very noisy driving. I can hear the cars go by as if my windows are down.

Strength:

everything about this vehicle under the hood is strong. The leather seats are great with kids. all the controls are easy to use once you get use to them. The rear seats also recline and the children were very comfortable on long trips. The heated front seats are great also.

Weakness:

cup holders in back seat are on floor and drinks get kicked out easily and they don't hold a cup very tight. The limited should have more options like doors locking automatically when you pick up speed. With the crime these days all vehicles should have this option. A compass and a outside tempature and a distance til empty computer should be standard in this vehicle. This vehicle is getting 25 MPG and that is good for an SUV. But the gas tank is to small.

I purchased my escape in Oct,02 and I am very happy with the ride. I haven't had any problems with my new vehicle. It handles very well in the ice and snow and is wonderful in the rain. There is no slipping on wet pavement.I have also taken it to the miountains and did some 4 wheeling. It did great. When I step on the gas it goes. When I hit the brakes it stops. I have a V6, 24VOHC. This vehicle is awesome. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I test drove the 2001 & 2002 and I didn't like the way they felt on the road. When I drove the limited 2003 I bought it.
