Strength:
Are there any? Maybe one - I could take my dog to the vets and have her secured in the back away from my driving.
Weakness:
Just about everything We inherited the Jimmy from my in-laws when they passed away. We decided to pay off certain family members just to keep things on an even keel, as far as who got what. Know what I mean? Anyway, the car ran great for the first year or two, then started having problems. The differential, the engine ( replaced once!), air conditioner, battery, brakes, altenator died ( in East L.A., no less!), got poor gas milage, noisey, plus the molding on the outside started falling off almost from the beginning of our ownership! Piece of junk - inheritance aside. Finally, after all the expense ( about $8,000 worth), we traded it in for a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville ( only received $2500 for the Jimmy!). Very disappointing SUV. Love my Bonnie! Best ride in town, next to a Cad. De Ville. No way will I ever buy another GMC Jimmy, even though the one at the dealer where we bought the Bonneville looked pretty nice. Tempting? Yes, but I''m only fooled once. Never again. Similar Products Used: None |

Everything else This is not a vehicle... it''s a vegetable! We''ve driven this money pit only 54,000 kms and here''s the list of what we''ve had replaced, so far: the entire engine block (twice), rear brake drums, front shock absorbers, struts, and just last week, the front brakes. These on top of all of the little things that need constant tweaking and adjustment. The shock absorber story was great: apparently, this car was designed for off-road use and, not having punished it enough by driving it only on pavement, the shock absorbers siezed up. Which probably explains why the struts needed replacing as well. It seems like this car has been in the shop more that it has been on the road. What a joke! Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Its great in the snow. The Auto 4WD works fairly well, but I like the option of switching it into 4WD when I want it. Also does great towing our Jayco fold-down camper or our Seadoo.
Weakness:
The engine has pretty good power and torque but could use a little more get-up-and-go, maybe they should put that new 270hp engine in it for 2002. Overall, this is a fun vehicle to drive. Definitley not the performance of a sports car, but a better ride than most SUV/trucks out there. I have had only one problem so far. Just last week the 4WD selector switch went bad, It wouldn''t let me switch out of 4Lo. Similar Products Used: This is my first GMC product, been a fan of GM products for a long time. |

items replaced to date since the purchase (new) in nov 2000: pulley system, fuel pump, check engine light (twice), valve, fan clutch, engine wiring, and some that they apparently "cannot duplicate" Piece of junk has been in for service more times than I wish to count. Excessive mileage placed by dealership to attempt to duplicate the problem. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Looks good. That''s about it.
Weakness:
Where do I begin? Please take my advice: Do not buy this vehicle. In fact, do not purchase a GMC vehicle. Their so-called "Customer Service Assistance Center" is a joke. They have no intention of backing up their product--especially their Jimmy. I had to put a new transmission on my 1998 Jimmy at 54,000 miles, after the warranties had run out. When I asked "customer service" whether this was common or expected, they stated that they''ve heard of transmissions going bad on these Jimmys much sooner than mine. Now we know their real quality pledge. Where''s my local Toyota Dealer??? Similar Products Used: None |

Power.
Weakness:
What''s with the fuel pump? Geez! Just finished putting my 3rd (that''s right, third) fuel pump in my 95 Jimmy SL. What''s going on with this vehicle? But, it does GREAT in the snow! Also, don''t go too far from civilization for fear of breakdown. Similar Products Used: None |

It runs wonderfully, very quiet, has LOTS of features, lots of variety.
Weakness:
None I absolutely love my vehicle. I have no idea what people are ranting about because my experience with this GMC, and 4 other Pontiac/GMC vehicles, is absolutely wonderful. I love my Jimmy. it is wonderful inside, runs like a dream, and is great on the outside. I plan to keep my Jimmy for a very long time. Similar Products Used: My family and I have between us owned 3 GMC vehicles and one Pontiac. Our dealership is WONDERFUL and out experience with all the vehicles we have purchased there has been wonderful also. I will buy from GMC for years to come. GMC is also one of the only SUV company's to not have a major problem with manufacturing and performance recently. |

Strength:
The only good quality is the power.
Weakness:
Here I go with the wost qualities! First we had a rattle and it took them around ten times in the garage to find the problem. It was a faulty front suspension part . Then came the brakes. They replaced the pads at around 20000 miles and in and then after being in the shop for a recall around 20000 miles later, they commented that it needs brakes again!!!! I told them to look in there computer, because they already did the brakes earlier. Well, they ended up replacing the rotors, calipers, and pads,,,,,,,,,for free both times because I told them they were defective and should have lasted longer. Trim parts outside were constantly coming loose and being glued back in place. The egr valve constantly gets carbon pieces stuck in it and has to be cleaned out. I replaced the fuel injector and lines. Now the catalytic convertor is rattling inside and it took me 5 days to get the part from a parts store, it came from general motors. The oxygen sensor is shot too. It won't start when it's cold. If I shoot either in the induction it will run. The car has 120,000 miles on it and my wife won't part with it. I replaced the muffler around 30000 mies and now the convertor???????? The convertor should last the life of the car......Yah right! This car is way over its' life!! I have owned this vehicle since 1995 and like everyone else it has a lot of problems. I am a mechanic and I know what is wrong most of the time without diagnosis. Similar Products Used: I've owned GMC products for 25 years and I still get sucked into buying more crap! |

SLS 2 door
Strength:
Engine power and acceleration, easy to use 4x4 system. Great A/C, comfortable seating.
Weakness:
In the 2 door with the rear mounted tire, rearview mirror is 50% useless. The back seat is comfortable once you make your way into it, but hey, i'm the driver, so I don't mind. :) Nice truck, perfect size for me. I really love the interior and sound system. A sharp looking truck. Definitely buy used as they depreciate quickly. The michelin tires are nice, but a set of goodyear wrangler AT/S make a world of difference.
