Weakness:

Everything else...BRAKES...BRAKES...BRAKES..My dealer says he's NEVER heard of any brake problems with the 99's...LIER...5th brake job within 35,000 miles...
Did some research..OH MY GOD..I knew I should have bought a Toyota..By the way,The latest one,my carpet on the drivers side is mysteriously getting
soaked....HUMMMM now what...

I might have just gotten a lemon, then again what about the brakes????..I like many,do not have the time to keep taking this thing back to the dealership...The next time(because of warranty)will be on my own dime also.
Gee I can hardly wait. There goes an easy $500.00..Well all I can say is,
COMING TO A LOT NEAR YOU A (PERFECT) low mileage 99 grand cherokee FOR SALE. Any Class action suites out there ?? If you have problems w/brakes too. e this guy Eugene_Dejesus@Brown.EDU

Strength:

Like any SUV you sit high, and has a car ride feel at slow speeds.Great exterior design, nice interior, powerful infinity sound system, and finally they put the spare out of sight.

Weakness:

Brakes ware out fast, rear struts replaced, computer replaced because alarm stopped working, at 20,000 miles the car sometimes doesnt start right away, steering wheel has to be adjusted constantly at highway speeds. Lots of noise at highway speeds especially in 4X4 mode. Horrible gas milage. Transmission kicks from day one and dealer said its a truck what do you expect.

Its not a bad SUV but they should include free repalcement of pads and rotors in the warranty every few months my rotors go bad. Its definately not the way I drive. Ive never had constant brake problems before on any car. The car has some rattles and squeeks from rear end which has already been replaced. Very crappy transmission. Its great in the snow. Back seats could use more room. The old inline six they use very reliable.

Weakness:

I leased my Grand Jeep Cherokee in 1999--it was in the shop in 99 approx. 12 times totalling almost 30 days of being in the shop. I have had problems with the suspension, tires, brakes, exterior and interior, wheel bearing, alignment and much more. The dealership has told me the vehicle is fine but I have taken it in several times for the same problems. They supposably fixed the problems yet I am still experienceing the same issues with the vehicle. I am not in a civil lawsuit because the problems would not get fixed.

If anyone has experienced similar problems, you were propably sold a lemon too. This has been a nightmare and being in a lease, you have no way out. If you have experienced similar problems please email me at Teechr2be@aol.com. Who knows what could happen. Thank you

Strength:

Consider the heritage...There is only one Jeep. Now it is made even better thanks to Daimler-Chrysler. I like the overall styling of the exterior, agressive, yet refined. Inside, there is 150 watts of Infinity sound system, complete with CD changer, to appease your passengers. Plenty of legroom front and rear, and easy to fold rear seating when it is needed. The engine offers excellent acceleration, while only using 87 octane gas which saves on fuel costs. Off Road performance is typical Jeep, with little or nothing being impossible to manage.

Weakness:

The engine does have 235 hp, and excellent accelleration, but could use a slight boost. A performance engine option, like the 5.9L V8 offered in 1998, would be great. I dont like the styling of the tailights, as they look like some kind of plastic luncbox grafted onto the rear. The CD changer location is unaccessable to anyone while driving; it would have been better located in the center console or some other area further to the front of the vehicle.

The 2000 is an excellent vehicle. I have used it for just about every type of driving imaginable, off road and on, and I can say that it is one of the best desinged machines that I have had the chance to drive. I would highly recommmend this vehicle to anyone looking for a Luxury SUV. For the money, nothing is comparable.

I accuired this Jeep after an accident with my 97 limited. The 97 was a great SUV too, performing flawlessly until its demise. I hit a set of unmarked railroad tracks, rolled five times and landed upside down. I was able to walk away from that crash with only minor brusing. Upon my exit from the vehicle, I realized that the interior remained intact, while the exterior absorbed the blow. The new Jeep was purchased based on the design of the old one. After test driving several other SUVs, I found that nothing came close to the combination of styling, performance and value that the Jeep offered.

Strength:

V8 engine, the looks, nice stereo

Weakness:

NONE!
a lot of people here say they had a lot of problems with their Jeep. I have never had a single problem. Don't know if I am just lucky or the other just unlucky, but it was and IS a GREAT car for me! The only thing that is a little problem is the gas consumption, but with a V8 it's the price you pay.

As I said above, it's a great car and very reliable. I would recommend it to anyone.

Strength:

Comfortable ride, decent cargo area, exterior paint

Weakness:

Noisy, cheap plastic under gear shift, occasional whine when reversing, low residual value

After reading all the other reviews, I am feeling VERY lucky with my Jeep. I have had it for nearly 3 years now, and have had almost no mechanical troubles, definitely nothing major. I love the looks and the handling. It still looks almost brand new, inside and out. I have been talking to a dealer about a new 2001 model, but will admit that I am a bit concerned after hearing of so many troubles with the 1999-2000 year models. Based on my present Jeep experience, I would purchase another one in an instant. Yet, I am starting to think I might have been the rare exception, having had no troubles to speak of. Perhaps I will consider other SUVs before going with another Jeep so quickly. I sure don't want to spend all my time in a service department...

Model Reviewed: Jeep Grand Cherokee

Strength:

Excellent acceleration (-V8 only)
Solid frame construction (When you close the door, it sounds solid)
Looks like jeep. There is only one.

Weakness:

Poor quality interior materials used (Ugly faux wood/plastic trim)
No reliability at all. (Something will break, crack, fail, etc every six months-- You have been warned!)

Even if the most used door on this jeep is the fuel door, I enjoy
driving this 1997 Grand Cherokee. This SUV guzzles gas (15 mpg city - luckly it has a 23.1 gal fuel tank). The reason I know this little known fact is that the fuel gage does not consistantly show the correct reading. I ran out of gas with the fuel gage showing 1/4 tank. Jeep/Chrysler fixed the errant gage and 3 months later, the same thing happenned. This is just one of the problems associated. I still can't figure out why on certain days why the back rear window won't work.
Also, Cargo Space is limited due to the famous spare in the back.
Don't be fooled this SUV will breakdown somewhere, at some point, better get the extended warranty (you will thank me later)

However, when the Jeep does work properly, it is great fun to drive. No problems when I need acceleration or braking. Both work fine. The jeep is made for long road trips. Seats are the comfortable and supportive.

Quality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After reading all the reviews I am concerned! I have almost 5000 miles on my Grand Cherokee limited (with options) and have had my GC in the shop twice and have to go back again. I have a creek sound in the interior rear, the head liner is loose and misc rattles in the cabin. The front end clunks when turned at full lock. Transmission cluncks going into gear, I has already stalled and is hard to start sometimes in the morning, the transmission has a leak and as the days go by new sounds are starting to pop up. The dealer is of no use! it seems strange that I got the same response (IT SOUNDS NORMAL TO US) I could go on but I wont. I dont reccomend this vehicle.
