Strength:
Great V-8 power especially with a few modifications(Exhaust and cold air intake) done, fun to race, Handles well for an SUV, great traction, good fuel economy for an SUV if you keep your foot out of it, lots of useful gadgets, sharp-edged industrial looks, beautiful platinum grey metallic paint, comfortable off road prowess, laughs at snow, stable at highway speed on a gravel road, It's like an off road sports/luxury car! And as for relibility, if you take care of it, it will take care of you.
Weakness:
I could have lived without the factory car tires (Goodyear Eagle LS), so I replaced them. Grand Cherokees especially the limited and Orvis models, can be a bit pricey. Uninformed Jeep "purists" don't respect them. Can't really think of anything else. If you want a great all-around vehicle then look no further than the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and certainly look no further if you are among the small percentage that actually goes off road with an SUV. I can't say enough about these vehicles. I guess there really is only one. JEEP Similar Products Used: doesn't cry when it gets dirty and isn't as sluggish as others in its class:Explorer and Blazer. Certainly quicker and better off road than Asian offerings as well. |

Good looking, Nice ride, ok gas mileage. Heard lots of good things about the 4.0L 6 cyl. Had alot of faith in the motor till the following happend!
Weakness:
I've only had this vehicle for 7 weeks. It has 38k miles on it. My wife was driving to school and the engine started knocking and vibrating. I'm away write now so a friend looked at it and said it looked like a valve burnt up. She took it back to the dealer and they said they found water in the air breather box and the air filter was very wet and water must have gotten in the engine and burnt up the push rods. They said my wife must had hit a mud puddle and got water in their and that's what they suggest we tell the insurance company. Will someone please tell me how water got into the air breather. Does this make any sense? My wife just filled up the Tank that morning. Maybe water in the gas? Does anyone know where I should go too look for similiar problems? $17,500.00 No Similar Products Used: 89 Chevy Blazer with the 4.3L V-6. Which is a good motor. Very reliable. I wish I would have bought a new Blazer instead of the Jeep! |

Looks great. Good ride, better than other SUV's.
Weakness:
Poor mpg. New ball joints and control arm at 854 mi. Pulls to the right, alined front end six times now the dealer says it's normal, I disagree. Have popping in steering, first time it was repaired they replaced couplers on the steering shaft. The second time they tightened bolts on front end.WHAT EVER THAT MEANS! The third time they tightened the steering knuckles. Now it's popping again. Wonder what they will tighten next? Also have a noise in the A/C at 1100 to 1700 rpm that sounds like a weed eater. I have had it in the shop eight times. They have tried every thing to get the noise out and can't. I have had two meetings the chrysler regional rep and on the the last visit they told me that they would not do any more repairs, because they consider the noise normal some Jeeps do it and some don't. My A/C vent broke, took six weeks to get a new one. I traded a 1998 Grand Cherokee in for my 2000. I have to say I went from BEST to WORST. I drove my 1998 for a little over two years and put 62,000 mi on it and never had problem one. Cant say that for my new one. The dealer is currently tring to work a resonable deal on a 300M and get me out of my Jeep. If they cant work something out, my next step will be to pursue the Lemon Law. |

Strength:
Comfortable, good handling. Large cargo and good passenger space. Also a reliable brand name, who has been making this type of vehicle for years.
Weakness:
Average crash test rating. Poor fuel economy. A fine car, that combines the strengths of larger SUVs (comfortable ride, large cargo space, safety), with that of smaller ones SUVs and cars (good handling, potential offroading capability). Grand Cherokee Laredo
Strength:
Striking looks in Patriot Blue. Great looking wheels. Good gas mileage on the freeway with I-6 engine. Accelerates good from a stop under full throttle. Engine torque peaks at 3,000 rpms instead of 6,000 rpms. Glass in rear door can be opened by pushing one button on rear door.
Weakness:
Front seats not as comfortable as a large car. I would consider aftermarket seats which should probably be firmer in the seat cushion. Standard seats need more adjustments. Leased for $ 27,000 Capital Cost. I have tinted side windows, sunroof, and upgraded stereo system with CD and cassette. 4WD Selec-Trac works great on slippery pavement with snow and ice. Sunroof is a must and works perfectly. Some brake pedal pulsing at less than 12,000 miles which I am going to have checked by dealer ( warped rotors ? ). I only drive the JGC 8,000 miles per year, so after 5 years, I will have only 40,000 miles on the vehicle. I replaced the stock air filter with K&N to maximize air flow into the engine. I would recommend the JGC if you can get it for what I paid. Similar Products Used: None |

Grand Cherokee Laredo
Strength:
Unstopable in any weather/road condition, style, decent handling (for an SUV, anyway...), base seats fairly comfortable, good local dealer/service (a bit of a surprise)
Weakness:
Niggling dash sensor/light issues, 6cyl. needs to be an 8 (not exactly a problem, more of a buy-time decision), pricey servicing Paid ~$28.5K for a fairly vanilla Laredo (has the AT tire upgrade and an in-dash CD) just as they were becoming avail. in N. California (we needed it for an X-mas road trip to N. Colorado, so I couldn't really wait for the back-ordered V-8 or QuadraDrive). Took us without a hitch through one of the worst blizzards in WY in the last 20 years, and wrapped up a 3200 mile road trip 3 weeks after purchase without a complaint. Weakness:
????????????? I bought it used from my mother-n-law in July 1999 for the trade in value (about 13K). It had been garage kept and hardly any miles considering it was 5 years old. Since then I have used it as a tow vehicle, an off road toy, the daily commuter, and the family truck to get to and from the mountains every weekend. Since I bought it last yearI have put almost 22,000 miles on it and I love it. The gas mileage is as good as you can expect from a suv (I average about 20 mpg) I would recommend it to anyone looking to buy an suv. However, I would recommend you buy a car unless you really plan on using the truck like it was meant to be used!! The only mechanical problems were the brakes, which were recalled, and the shocks which I beat up while off roading. In addition, the tires were city tires so I replaced all four tires with Goodyear off roading tires. JGC Laredo 4WD(I6)
Strength:
aggressive looking, comfortable ride, supreme handling, excellent acceleration in 4WD mode, superb on and off-road ability, spare tire underneath to increase cargo space, etc...
Weakness:
transmission and engine noise, bad fuel-efficiency, seat power-adjustment isn't standard, etc... If you are looking for a suv that is fun to drive, then this is probably your best choice. No matter on or off road, its handling is just remarkable. Recommended for long road trip. I'm actually surprised when reading those reviews that are against it, 'cause my JGC is working perfectly so far. You'll probably want to go with the 8-speaker supreme sound system by Infinity, which absolutely puts you in an isolated music atomsphere. V-8 is unnecessary if you aren't going to be towing a boat. It never ever gets stuck in the snow based on my experience(though there isn't much snow in Vancouver.) The only weakness in term of mechnics i found out is that the brake isn't sharp enough(compared to toyota landcruiser). It's not that fuel-efficient, like 450km for 78 liters. It sometimes knocks out some funny noise from the engine and transmission which don't please me much. But overall, i strongly recommend the vehicle, good for family also. Strength:
Incredible looks, comfy, powerful (V8), envious looks from others as you pass by (get a black one!!), power everything, good stereo, nice 17inch wheels.
Weakness:
Fuel economy Overall I don't think I could be more pleased. I have the 2001 Ltd with the up country package. The drive is wonderful, looks great, and no problems so far. I also had a 99 Ltd, and had no problems with that one either. The only bad thing about this SUV is the fuel economy, but if you can afford to spend this much on a car, then gas shouldn't be a prob for you!
