Strength:
V8 has lots of power, interior of the ltd is very nice, really nice padded leather seats (unlike the leather you get with the upgraded laredo's - kind of flat), great stereo, OK mileage (18mpg), and I feel very safe driving it.
Weakness:
Pulls slightly to the right....thats about it so far. But after reading other reviews here I may decide to buy the extended warranty just in case (about 2000 Canadian for 3 years, I think). I bought this used with 7500km on it. So far I love it! I have the V8 limited model, heated seats, sunroof, upgraded stereo, nice deep slate color that looks great when washed. The only problem I had was that 'stop clunk' when coming to a stop. I took it into the dealer, and the service guy literally finished my sentence for me. I guess there was a bulliten out for it. They replaced the driveshaft free of charge, and I haven't had any probs since. I do notice that after 31000km (about 20000 miles) the brakes are starting to pulsate a little, so I'll have those checked. Similar Products Used: 1988 jeep cherokee laredo |

Strength:
Very strong and capable vehicle. Can take you anywhere from an off-raod trail to the supermarket. Looks great and still drives new after four years. Jeep is a thrill to Drive and thats why people should buy a Jeep.
Weakness:
some electical problems with ignition and overhead consil My company and I have been tunning off road vehicles for 15 years. Jeep by far is my favorite. Do to its impressive engine design and the Jeep's total capabilities. Unlike these imports today that advertise horse power and luxury. When taken to trails they can not do what their catagorie calims. (SUV) These imports have hp yet at very high rpm's and most of the power does not reach to weels. Jeep is designed to give good amounts of power allowing you to pull many things. These other SUV are just cars that have a big roof on big wheels. Jeep has a good backround from the first Jeep's that the army used to the Jeep's that everyday off roaders use. Similar Products Used: Nissan Pathfinder- When taken off roading motor and suspension can not handle the obstacle. Jeep gives plenty of power and ability |

Weakness:
None This SUV is great for what it is advertised for which is off roading and getting out of sticky situations. The 4WD system is great espically when coupled with the optional V-8 and quadradrive system. The upper level limited model is more luxurious than the previous model and boasts more features. However, the Jeep is still unrefined and the interior is boring unlike its competitors. More changes to the interior are needed espically to the guages. If you someone who needs a true 4WD vehicle and will compramise comfort for that than this is the vehicle for you. Similar Products Used: None |

JGC Larado 4x4
Strength:
Pretty Strong I6 engine. Nice looking. Rides great off road. Comfortable interior. Decent cargo room. Good Hwy MPG at times.
Weakness:
DC parts & accessories are very expensive. Overall gas milage has been disapointing. Many 4x4 features & accessories that are standard on much cheaper vehicles cost extra on the "Flagship" Jeep. So far, so good. No major problems. I have put a lot of money into accessories that probably should be standard on a $30,000 4x4, such as fog lights, splash guards and skid plates. I replaced factory air cleaner and spark plugs with K&N and Bosch Platnum plus 4, which resulted in noticable performance improvement. I bought the vehicle because it drove and handled better than other SUV's I looked at and I paid below invoice. I don't know if I would have chose to purchase the vehicle if I had to pay full MSRP - simply because the price is so high. However, I am happy with the Jeep GC so far and I would recommend it. I feel that I got a better than average SUV for the amount I paid. It is comfortable to drive and nice for family activities, although it doesn't drive itself on the highway. The JGC feels like a solid, well built vehicle. Similar Products Used: Looked at Ford Explorer, Ford Explorer Sport Track, Nissan X-Terra, Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, Subaru Forester & Outback. |

GC Laredo I-6 Cyl.
Strength:
Excellent 4wd system, ruggedness, interior (looks like a jet cockpit at night), and the inline 6 cyl. (no,they have not put v-6's in them in over 10 years)
Weakness:
Before you buy, just understand what the word Jeep stands for:Just Empty Every Pocket, and go from there.Main problems are yep, brakes and transmission. Got tired of changing brake pads every 20k,put on carbon metallic(probably eat up the rotors). They ALWAYS squeak, don't matter what kind you put on. New problem now, engine about stalls when you put it in reverse. If you own a Jeep, always get the ac drain cleaned out once a year. Seems some rocket scientist designed the fresh air intake drain and ac drain to drain in the same place,so if it gets clogged with leaves or pollen, you will flood your passenger side floorboard next time it rains. Both of my Jeeps have done this. Symptom is a sloshing sound while driving. Ride is not as comfy as I thought it would be, and a lot of road noise. Also enough static electricity to light Las Vegas. 18K (used) in Jan.'99. It has it's weaknesses, but remember it is a truck and a true 4wd at heart. The 6 cyl. just don't have as much power as my '91, probably because the vehicle is heavier. I love 'em, but this is the last Jeep for me. I'm tired of wasting weekends and evenings always tweaking and tuning. The only experience I had w/ a service center wasn't so great, and they will burn you up. Buy the warranty. My ac drain got stopped up 2 weeks after I bought it. It was not ready when I went to pick it up. SO I got my salesman involved (wonderful guy, but thats what he gets paid to be). Anyway, he had a talk with the service manager and I had it in 15 minutes. While picking it up, the service manager confronted me and was a bit hostile and told me to never get the salesman involved again. Thought I was going to have to kick his butt on the spot. Nevertheless, words were exchanged and I havent needed to go back until now. If you buy one, get a good service manual and you can tackle most problems yourself and save money. GET THE WARRANTY! Just glad I don't own a '99 or '00. Similar Products Used: '91 Cherokee Laredo. This vehicle is the reason I bought the '96. Brakes always squeaked, but absolutely bulletproof. I wish I still had this vehicle. Put a new water pump in at 60k,but it was my fault. No other problems, sold at 110k. |

Laredo V8, Limited
Strength:
-Trailer/stump pulling low end grunt
Weakness:
-Terrible mileage The Jeep Grand Cherokee does what it sets out to do adequately, nothing more or less. It can pull trailers, and haul cargo (although the cargo area is actually a little dissapointing. Aviod the full-service spare.) It has very cool technology, such as a computer, all time 4wd, and automatic mirrors and headlights - they spared no expense on the options available. The seats could be better, although they are like 10 way power. The rear seat is fairly comfortable and roomy. Sadly, a very tiny percentage of jeeps ever get to shine, doing what they are made for: off-roading. Ours has (shhh!). It's really a lot of fun - it goes through everything, and doesn't feel tippy. The body molding on the laredo prevents scratches nicely (if you want to go off-roading, aviod the limited). Overall, I think SUVs in general are unneccesary unless you plan to use them. Get one of those new sporty, european wagons for the price! Similar Products Used: Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Chevrolet Blazer (similar overall to these vehicles) |

Strength:
It looks wonderful, even after 4 1/2 years, and with 8 cyls. it had plenty of passability on the highway.
Weakness:
This machine has been in the shop more than all the other cars I have ever owned, American or Japanese.(I started buying cars in 1962) The electronic system and the computer are terrible, frightening, even, in what they have done or failed to do in mid ride. Lights and doors locks have not worked properly and the gauges have failed so often that on at least one occasion at night I broke into a cold sweat. I leased it for a long time. The base price was just under $30,000. Similar Products Used: No other experience with an SUV, but I have driven the 2000, Jeep. It drove beautifully for the 15 mintues I was in it. BUT, look above!! |

Fun to drive, awesome sounding stereo, super strong engine (5.2L V8), luxury features like heated seats, sunroof, leather, trip computer. Its also very handy for piling in stuff for camping trips and carrying bikes. Sits up high and commands respect.
Weakness:
Reliability, Reliability, Reliability! Oh, did I forget to say reliability? Radio sometimes cannot tune to any stations (its like the antenna vanishes). The dealer would not do anything to fix it since they could not duplicate it. After the warranty expired, they offered to yank it out and do a check of it for a hefty fee. The power steering assembly broke away from the engine due to a hairline crack in the power steering bracket. This had to be a defective bracket when it left the factory but the actual failure occurred 3 months before the car was to be paid off. The parts store said he's had 10 people recently need that exact part for the 96 jeep because it broke away and caused major problems. I had to replace the power steering pump also because it was damaged when the whole thing broke away. I would not recommend the Jeep to anyone that does not have the time and resources to fix this thing when it goes bad. My opinion is that Chrysler has the best looking designs of all domestic brands. Unfortunately their reliability is not up to my standards. Thats a shame because the new Jeeps and other Chrysler's look great and perform well in the short term. Similar Products Used: This is my only SUV. I've owned a 88 Honda Accord Coupe and I'm on my 5th leased Ford Taurus (company car). Jeep quality worse than Ford and much worse than Honda. |
