Strength:

GREATEST OFF ROAD SUV! very user friendly instrument panel, nice seats, lots of goodies with the Laredo.

Weakness:

Hmm where to start. I bought this with 64000 on it. It now has 93500 on it. Ive had quite a few incidents with repairs to it.
intake manifold gasket, entire A/C system, both valve cover gaskets, transfercase rear seal, all 4 lower control arm bushings, battery, front track bar, rear main seal, speedo gear seal, fuel pump, IAC motor, both CV boots. Im thinking that the transmission, radiator or waterpump is going to be next since they haven't been replaced, but knock on wood.

the viscous coupling in the transfercase is a bad design as well. stick with the inline-6 motor, it comes with the 231 transfercase.

I'm in the process of selling it. I dont want to but its been too much out of my wallet. I've modifieed the heck out of it(none causing the issues Ive had with it)but its an expensive vehicle to use. the V8 with ALL WHEEL DRIVE sucks down the gas and @ $2/gal, it gets pricey.
I'm probably going to go with a 2WD Explorer from the 96-97 model year.
I was throughly impressed with the Jeep ZJ, but the lenght that things last on these (even with only light off roading) is far below standards)
All of the dealerships Ive been to have been piss poor as well as Chrysler just doesnt have a care in the world about their customers.

Strength:

Go anywhere anytime. Smooth road ride. Handles well. 4.7L V8 has lots of power. It is very comforatable.

Weakness:

Braking. Rear seats need more room.

This is my daily driver and I do a great deal of serious off roading with it as well. It is great for driving around town as well as climbing mountains. I love my Grand Cherokee!! I would reccommend it to everyone and anyone who is looking for an extremely versitile vehicle that is great for on or off roading.

Strength:

Excellent balance between on & offroad ability, comfortable interior, good performance & handling, excellent looks

Weakness:

Brakes could use improvement (warped after 9k miles) CV jointed driveshaft is weak.

If you're looking for a capable SUV, look no further - the Jeep is about as good as they get.

Test drove a Toyota 4Runner at the time - not even close, especially for the money.

Strength:

Unbelievable offroad ability right out of the box. Great onroad also. No crappy Independent Front suspension. Lots of power and available torque. Large amount of aftermarket upgrades available.

Weakness:

Wish the back window was power.

Great onroad and offroad. Best of both worlds. Lives up to the "go anywhere" moniker. More power and better "jack of all trades" than any other similar vehicles.

Similar Products Used:

Toyota 4Runner- Jeep is much better offroad due to the solid axle up front and has more power.

Strength:

Off Road ability. Sheer performance muscle. Towing Capability. Ammenities. Reliability.

It is easily, and cheaply modified for extreme offroad performance.

Weakness:

Restrictive air intake and exhaust system - which were re-designed and much improved with the new WJ body style and engine. However, there are aftermarket products that eliminate this shortcomming and allow for large gains in Horsepower (30 to 40 HP).

My Grand now has 140K on it - with no problems other than normal wear and tear. Engine and drivetrain are in great shape. It's on road performance is hardly matched, even with today's wannabe SUVs from lexus, bmw, and mercedes. It's off road capabilities are only matched by much more expensive SUVs - like the Toyota Landcruiser with locked axles front and rear. It comes standard with many luxary options that are still expensive to come by in vehicles.

There are lots of aftermarket goodies to ensure that its performance remains superior to newer higher horsepower, and factory supercharged SUVs. For the amount of money a used one costs, I would highly recommend it!

It's a JEEP!

Weakness:

None found yet

I've owned this jeep for a little over 6 months now(it's the third jeep I've owned.) The gas milage(15) is impressive(for an V8)and the vehicle is strong. The offroad capabilities exceed most other stock vehicles.

The only problem I have had was a spark plug arcing. A new plug wire and plug fixed it--cost about $8.

Had a 2000 G Cherokee. Loved it, bought it cheap and made a profit selling it.
Had a 2000 Volvo S40. The lemon broke down daily and fried it's computer twice. NEVER BUY A VOLVO, they are poor quality and Volvo doesn't give a rats azz about customer service. This jeep is opposite, it runs.
Had a 78 Jeep CJ5, awesome truck...a good second car

Strength:

Power from the V8, off-road ability due to solid axles front and rear, low range transfercase, Quadra-drive

Weakness:

Meets all my expectations

I got a great deal from the dealer to start with. $39K list, fully loaded, with every option and I took it home for $31K. It has tons of power to handle the higher altitude hear in Boulder and to climb the mountains. It's a great highway car to climb the rocky mountains, up I-70. Lots of room in the rear seat (for its size) and lots of trunk space. I like the spare tire being inside and under the rear trunk deck. I do take it off roading, real off roading, not just dirt roads. The Jeep CJ's are always impressed to see me climb the same things as them.
If it were stolen today, I would buy another one tomorrow.

Only thing is 4.0 is kinda weak. Low towing capacity.

Love it, stop sitting here and go buy one!

These things are built like tanks, there is no doubt about it. I have beat the living hell out of this vehicle both on and off road. I've sank it, I've ingested water, I've hit boulders at 60...Still running strong, still like new. I'm sorry, but it doesn't get any better than jeep. And anyone who thinks otherwise needs to learn a little about mechanics.

Weakness:

Weaknesses? what wakenesses?

Like they say, it is a Jeep, and there is only one.
These other little SUV's...they are SUV's - this is a JEEP.
"This Jeep is not an SUV, your SUV is not a Jeep" -- that says it all.
