Strength:

Just the right size for commuting, off-roading.
Power & ride is best in class.
Actually performs off-road like all SUVs should.

Weakness:

Spare tire takes up storage space.
No part time 4WD option in transfer case.

I'd have to spend $50k to find another SUV that would compare to Jeep's luxury, ride, power, and off-road ability.
I'm 6'3" and have plenty of leg room that Toyota's 4Runner, Mistu's Montero, Ford's Explorer and Chevy's Blazer could not provide.

Strength:

Power, comfort, off-road abilities, great aftermarket availability, the hybrid of a cadillac and a humvee (go anywhere in comfort and style)

Weakness:

There really are none.

I love my Jeep. I haven't had any problems with it yet. Even in stock form, it has conquered some tough trails. This is a vehicle that is at home in the woods or on a cross country trip. I spent over 17 hours in this vehicle taking a trip and I never once felt uncomfortable. The I-6 is a great motor. It will run forever and has plenty of power.

Overall, until you drive one, you will not know what the "Jeep thing" is all about.

It's a Jeep thing ... you wouldn't understand. =)

Strength:

This was an all around good car for us.

Weakness:

Gas mileage, expensive service regular service, frontend jerk when turning tight starting at 90k miles, seals, weak radio and speakers, leak into interior in the rain (never found), oxy sensor, limited rear space.

This car was totaled after we T-Boned a Cavalier that tried to jet across an intersection in front of us. Had the car for 2 years and got back $500 more than we paid because we got a good deal in the first place. We will replace it with a 96-98. This was my wifes car and she loved it in town. I took it to the snow for skiing and passed everything that got in my way. We bought it with 75k and had 99k on it. It cost $2k per year to maintain not counting the 100k warranty work ($1600 air conditioner, antenna, all undercarriage seals). Replaced motor mounts at 80k (not warrantied?). No brake work but they were ready. My wife babied it and I pushed it for all it was worth. Sorry to see it go.

Email me about:
How to fix the brake problem on later models.
How to get better gas mileage.
Any other fixes or recalls on 96 to 98.

Strength:

Comfort, ride quality, power, easy 4WD with QuadraDrive, Easy to Mount top racks, hatch has easy access, doors and seats have easy access for 6'5" person. Comfortably sits 4-5. Fun to drive. Easy to modify for either street or off-road (REAL off-road riding and I'm not talking about just camping in Yosimitie). Better looking than the imports from Japan and Europe.

Weakness:

Likes lots of fuel. Its considered a "Luxury Vehicle" when it truely is an off road performing vehicle.

I have had nothing but good experiences so far with the JGC. I've taken it to South Lake Tahoe (snow sking, pulled out several stuck SUVs, notably Ford Explorers, BMW X5s, Chevy Tahoes, mostly inexperienced drivers, thank goodness no one was hurt), Bear Valley, (Snow sking again, liked the way the JGC handled the ICY roads, very impressed with QuadraDrive's ability to apply torque to one wheel then the next when there was even the slightest hint of slip, smooth transitions, and smooth stopping as well), and off-road I have taken it to a off-road park in Hollister that was really fun. Its been nothing but smooth sailing. But with any vehicle, I'm expecting problems in the future. As my uncle in the auto manufacturing industry used to say, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Jeep, Ford, Chevy, BMW, Mercedes, Ferarri, Lamborghini, Porche, whatever the vehicle, its the same value deteriorating crap as all the rest, pick one and try to be happy, your in denial if you think you just bought an investment.

Similar Products Used:

BMW-X5 - Nice minivan but no comparison to the JGC, VERY INCAPABLE off road, in snow, and mud.
Mercedes M-Class like the power of the 430 but truely a street vehicle. If you want to spend a lot and jump on the SUV bandwagon, go for it. Its made by Dailmer-Chrysler too.

Strength:

Awesome 4.7L V-8, firm handling, very good towing capability given vehicle size/weight/class, steering wheel mounted stereo controls, unmatched all around capability, incredibly fun to drive.

Weakness:

If you are looking for a car that looks like an SUV this isn't your vehicle.

I bought this vehicle because it is the best all around vehicle in the mid-size high-end class. The V-8 is very fun to drive. If you don't believe me go and test drive one yourself. My best friend did and now he owns one too! This is not a car that looks like a SUV (Mercedes, Lexus, etc.). It is a truck and it handles, sounds, and performs like one. It does, however, a very good job in all of these categories by truck standards. Offroading with Quadra Drive has been a great experience. It is one of the best factory option traction systems for offroading that is available. Yes, I take my $35K+ Jeep offroading and no I don't beat it up.

While the Land Rover Discovery II is probably a better offroading vehicle it's onroad performance is no match for the Grand Cherokee due to it's higher center of gravity and less peppy engine.

I'm going to miss the Grand Cherokee when I have to leave the mid-size category and get a Suburban sized vehicle...but until that day comes I'm going to have lots of fun! If you you need the cargo/people capacity of an SUV but want the feel of a sports car and feel Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus are out of your price range (or you require offorad performance) then this is the vehicle for you.

Strength:

Very Cute, great stereo, seats, interior, nice ride

Weakness:

shakes sometimes, loud air noise from back, bad gas mileage

When I got it from the auction, it had 60k miles on it (that's a lot for a 98) but it was still new looking inside and out. After hearing the reviews, I'm wondering what history this car has had. I know I'll soon find out how reliable and good it is but so far it's not bad.

Strength:

Great clearance, and departure angles. Sufficent torque for when you need it.

Weakness:

Lack of available after market parts/modificatons. But it is getting better.

This is my second Jeep product. I put close to 100,000 miles on my first jeep, and I plan on putting atleast that on the Grand Cherokee. Very solid reliable product. Peterson's wouldn't have giving it the Best 4x4 11 years in a row for nothing.
