The grand cherokee is very comfortable and fun to drive. It is Easy and cheap to work on when there are problems or if you want to modify it for off-road use. Off and on road it just does what you ask. I've taken many 12-13 hour drives in it and have never felt the comfort level lacked even after so many hours in the seat.
Weakness:
Tends to go through brakes quickly. I really don't have any problems or complains that could be considered weaknesses. It's the best car I've ever owned. I love my Jeep. Actually I have two grand cherokees. Since I bought my first I have not regretted in once. They are both a dream to drive and play with. I've done long freeway drives and some off road driving. For either of these the car is wonderfull. If you want a luxury car to drive around town then it will certainly work. If you want to take it off road then it's easy to modify and does a great job. If you're like me and want both the there is nothing better. It's great driving rough trails etc with the AC on the CD playing and the comfort of a luxury car. I don't have any plans on ever owning anyting other than a Jeep. Similar Products Used: None |

Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited
Strength:
5.9 Liter V8 - POWER
Weakness:
*SLIGHTLY* louder than average wind noise at highway speeds. Other than that, this has been a solid truck and a great buy. I drive on the highway a lot with this Jeep, and i dont find this to be an annoyance. This Jeep has treated me fantastically. I have always meticulously maintained my vehicles, and stuck to the same routine with the grand cherokee. The 5.9 liter motor really moves, and the transmission shifts silky smooth. I have read other reviews on here about faulty Grand Cherokees, so i decided to come on and try to clean up their reputation. I truly believe that if you take care of your car, it will take care of you. With 48,000 miles on my Jeep i am seeing no sign of it slowing down. It still runs smooth, feels tight, and feels almost brand new. The seats are straight out of a living room, and the power is incredible. MPG isnt extremely terrible. Keep in mind you are driving a 5.9 liter All Wheel Drive vehicle. In the city (austin, tx) i experience about 13 mpg/avg. and when i take it on highway excursions, (like to watch UT kick OU's ass in Dallas) i average 21-22 miles per gallon. However, gas can be a little bit costly as it requires Premium Unleaded. The highway ride is great. Steering is probably a 7 on a 1-10, as it uses the recirculating ball technology rather than rack and pinion, and with the 5.9 there is plenty of passsing power. When i drive around the pothole-laden roads of downtown Austin, the Jeep handles well, and tackles the obstacles with little squeaks or rattles. I cannot say enough about the Factory sound system in this thing. Infinity Gold - the best factory sound system on the market - it sounds fantastic. If you opted to put one in yourself it would run you well over 2,000 (says the dealership). This Jeep has been great to me, and i have not had the problems with reliability or brakes that everyone seems to be complaining about. I highly recommend this vehicle to anybody in the market for a luxury SUV. Grand Cherokee TSI
Strength:
Power, Luxury options, ride, The seats are very comfortable.
Weakness:
You can hear the drive train when your coming to a stop, it's not real loud or distracting. The full time 4wd, I wished I had the option of putting it into 2wd I really like all the bells and whistles of the TSI, not to mention the V8 has tons of power. The ride is smooth and for the most part quiet. All and all I am very pleased! Similar Products Used: Nissan Pathfinder has less power and seems pretty generic in comparison. |

Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
Strength:
Styling, 4.0 engine. Little else. However, my Dealership has been very good, so far.
Weakness:
Quality, Quality, Quality. My Jeep has been in the shop more times than I can count. And, many of the repairs have been repeats. Fuel pump, 4 times! Driver and passenger window motors, 2 times each. Rear diff. twice. Now, my transmission is starting to slip in passing gear. Scary! It's a shame that Jeep could design such a sharp looking and luxurious SUV, and then do such a piss poor job of designing reliability into it. As in the other reviews I've read, I concur that the problem is poor quality in parts. That doesn't bother me as much as the fact that Jeep/Chrysler hasn't remedied the problems. Maybe they see this as an opportunity for increased revenue. I won't be buying another Jeep again. So much for future revenue Jeep/Chrysler! Great means to suck your money dry.
Weakness:
Many, many, many, many ............................. This experience is the stuff that nightmares are made of. Bought the vehicle from a used car dealer that has to be the front for the Chinese Mafia. (Shame on me for the stupidity!) In a few short months we have learned that both differentials are bad, the Viscous Coupling is bad (never even heard that word until I owned a Jeep and would have thought that it was a part of the human skeleton). Very quickly found out the vehicle was using a quart of oil every 400 miles. (Only 79K on it when purchased.) Found out it was the intake manifold gasket leaking. The "dealer" replaced the gasket and somehow managed to get gasket material into the oil lubrication system which then caused an oil starvation problem and then .... POOOOF no more engine. Now I'm watching as they rebuild the engine piece by piece. Along the way we've learned that the vehicle has all these other problems. Talking to Jeep is like talking to the cold stone wall. The words "Customer Service" are in no way associated with Jeep. Last time I called them looking for help on the differentials and Viscous (what?) I was actually abused on the telephone. I asked for the name of a VP in CS and the guy refused to give it to me. Then proceeded to hang up on me. Jeep CS sucks, Jeeps suck, Jeep dealers suck. Don't believe a word that these people are telling you about how great their Jeep is. These people are living in a dream world and give new meaning to the expression that "ignorance is bliss". Their idea of "off roading" is driving the car into a mall parking lot or onto the soccer field. Run for your lives! Stay away and far from JEEP!!!!!!!!!BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT TOO MANY TIMES!! GC 5.9 Ltd
Strength:
Looks and image (this is Jeep country); Extremely loyal owners and marketing effort by Chrysler; Excellent 5.9 engine and all systems have worked with out problems except for the driveline. Have had excellent dealer support. So far Chrysler still covering some problems under warranty.
Weakness:
Driveline problems. Dana has done to Jeep what Firestone has done to Ford Explorers. Rear Axle assembly replaced twice, front ring and pinion 3 times once with new carrier, front driveshaft, front axles and all bearings. Still can't find or stop increasingly loud gear lash noise at 30 plus mph. I feel sorry for mechanics, they have no way of complaining how the car was built. Sad. This is a love it and hate it relationship. Bought it because of hype from all the great magazine reviews and truck of the year awards, etc. Love the power and looks. Had previous good experience with 86' Ltd Cherokee, 93 Grand Cherokee Wagoneer and 99' Wrangler has been flawless. This vehicle has been a mechanics nightmare and I honestly don't think I would ever buy another Jeep. This is Jeep country and still the resale values are falling like crazy. This Jeep is probably now worth only about $16,000 in excellent apparence with 42,000 miles(if they don't listen to driveline). Not too good for a $40,000 vehicle. If you buy one, get one used and still under warranty and plan to keep it or be eaten alive. Similar Products Used: against other Jeeps I have owned, poorly. I never drive off road but need fwd for snow. I think we will have to look at GM next time. |

The power.
Weakness:
The whole vehicle is a weakness. The seats are so soft that your back starts to ache after a couple hours of long driving. Have had my transmission replaced twice. Have had my steering gear box replaced twice and is scheduled for a third. My rear diff. replaced twiced. The renound 4wheel drive system has been replaced once. The brakes have an endless squeak unless I time my braking to precision. I bought this SUV to take it on endless offroad destinations, but now I'm too scared to even drive it down a dirt road. Originally purchased this Jeep for the mulitiple abilities and favorable reviews. Now I have noticed that magazines only had the vehicle for about a week and never had the chance to review its long term problems. Overall I'm just devastated. Should have keeped my old school 4runner. Similar Products Used: Compares to a 1999 hyndai tiburon |

Great style, fantastic interior, great sound system, It's FAST
Weakness:
I've had three Grand, 96, 98 and the 2001. This is a beautiful ride. When new was very quite. The engine was silky smooth. Big improvment in the look of the leather on the 2001. Has that bunched Euoropean look. My big problem is quality and the inability of the dealer to understand the issues. Seems like they resist call for help from DC. This is really troubling for a mid 30K price ride. Seems like everywhere I read people are having problems once they get a few thousand miles on the odometer. DC needsto wake up before they have an Explorer on their hands. Similar Products Used: 96 Grand Cherokee 5.2 4X4 |
