Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8
Strength:
Powerful V8 engine. It does 0-60 in 7 seconds flat. I race this Bad Ass and always win. It has a great stereo with a 10 cd changer. Perfect luxury suits me well.
Weakness:
Since its a V8 it sucks up some gas but its not that bad. Everything is perfect. I have no complaints. My Jeep has to be the greatest SUV on the market. It is overall the fastest SUV around. With perfect Luxury Similar Products Used: I used to have a Cherokee sport. The Grand cherokee is much quicker. Both are great for offroading. |

Needs more power (Should have bought a V-8?) I have liked this vehicle so far. Purchased with 36K on the odometer. I have taken it on two road trips, plus it's my daily driver. Now have 51K miles on it. Good heavy stable vehicle. For the first year, have had no problems. After my last trip, had to have a new radiator put in. I used my DC extended warranty, but it still cost me over $500! Sure the deductible was $200, but the rest (hoses, serpentine belt, thermostat) was another $337. I am going to "return" my warranty for the unused portion and get my money back. Besides, I'll need it; as soon as I got it back from the radiator repair, the oxygen sensors went out and it has to go right back to the shop for that. Hope the factory warranty covers it.... Laredo 4WD V6
Strength:
THIS TRUCK WILL DRIVE THROUGH ANYTHING...on road and off road use in all weather conditions have consistently kept me happy, especially when watching other SUVs spin off snowy New Hampshire roads while I retained control...comfortable on the highway (not a sedan, but good for a true truck)...controls are easy to operate...room for just about anything that I need to stuff into it (although they have since found much better locations for the spare than the left side of the cargo area)...still running very well (with minor repairs needed) at 111,000 miles after 25-30k each of the last three years...oh yeah, it just LOOKS like a capable SUV also
Weakness:
gas mileage, but that is to be expected...electrical gremlins...have to fix the A/C and manifold now (and electrical system repairs last year) but can't complain too much at 111k miles Going to school in NH and working in emergency services here and there, I set out to find a vehicle which would handle a whole lot of highway driving comfortably, carry LOTS of stuff, and be able to competently handle any on-road and most off-road conditions in all weather when necessary...this truck did not disappoint (except on the gas mileage, but with the V6 I should have expected that)...there's a reason why Jeep keeps winning SUV awards -- they make solid vehicles! If you need a vehicle in which you can get pretty much anywhere regardless of the snow/ice/mud/dirt/rocks/potholes in the way, you would be wise to consider this product! Similar Products Used: none- that was first SUV but am now shopping for a new one (keeping this one in family) and will remain loyal to Jeep |

Style - it's a good looking truck!
Weakness:
Mechanical - drive train (transmission clunk) . I also hear the brakes are a little sus although I have had any trouble yet (12,500miles).It's reputation for these problems is "out there" I've owned my Cherokee now for just on 11 months. I purchased it for its looks, finish, the 4.7l V8 engine and the built in roof racks (great for surfing). It's very comfortable and the interior (in mine) is well finished and refined which is a plus in a "truck" however there could be a little more leg room in the rear. It's great to drive around town and on the highway and althought I've had it off road I haven't really "tested it". Mechanically I had some problems with the transmission from the outset. It was clunking back down into 1st and also slipped in reverse on first start up when cold. My dealer couldn't fix it at first and eventually I got them to replace the transmission completly. It's mostly better now however there is still a hint of the problem from time to time -it's something I think they should work on. Wonderful vehicle. I enjoy the ride as well as the comfort. Handles well under most driving conditions.
Weakness:
I have experienced an unrepairable problem with the transfer case. When placed in reverse. You experience a sudden jerk and clumping noise from the gear shift Diamler unable to repair at this time. (1999 Model) - Overall the grand is a wonderful vehicle. It would be so much better if Diamler would solve the problem instead of passing it off as a minor problem. |

Weakness:
The cheap wood panel and when I shift from neutral to reverse there's a noise, like a clucking sound and you also sometime get a jerking motion too. The people at the dealership tells me it a normal thing. Please tell me your experience with this problem. (1999 Model) - I love this jeep and the only thing I don't like about it is the slight noise it make when shifting from neutral to reverse.and the jerking motion you get from it too. |

Reliability.... Rear End, Fuel Pump, Windows, Seat Belts all have had service on them to make them work properly. Going into it knowing that it was a Chrysler product I was prepared for problems but I didn't realize how time consuming it would be. This SUV is great looking but its faults out weigh the looks. I have been to the service department 7 times for recalls or warranty work. With an average of a day and a half each time. My 1996 Ford Ranger has 144k miles and has never been in for a product defect. I will say I haven't had problems with the service department except for gettting a straight answer about reliabilty. I guess I should consider myself lucky because I didn't have the brake problems or gas milage problems (I hover around 17mpg, which doesn't seem to bad now) Last, I looked up the number of technical service bulletins for my Jeep and it had triple the next worst SUV. I may keep this one due to depreciation and cost of getting a new car so soon BUT I will NOT buy another. Similar Products Used: 1996 Ford Ranger beats it hands down for reliability. |

Strength:
Overall, the horsepower and handling are great.
Weakness:
When braking, there is a lot of shaking going on. The Jeep is a truly rugged SUV that has only a few problems i.e. brakes. For it price--22500 after rebates but before taxes and licensing, it is somewhat of a deal for a SUV. For only a few more thousand, I would have bought a Toyota 4Runner. Similar Products Used: None |
