It's a Jeep - enough said

Weakness:

The only weakness this has are the people who buy them, and complain because they don't handle like cars. That's true, they don't, they handle like a JEEP! Figure it out yourself.

This is a very good vehicle. Every car has an issue, and the '00 has a clutch issue, which was resolved in a matter of 1 day at the dealer. I've never had a problem that was so easily fixed.

The Jeep is great off-roading and on pavement. Highway speeds should be kept at the speed limit, just like any other tall vehicle due to wind resistance. Turning should be done at a slow-moderate speed so not to roll-over, just like any other tall vehicle. If you want a speed-demon car, don't buy a Jeep and then complain about it.

My Jeep on road can get up to speed and maintain speed no matter the conditions: rain, snow, hills, etc. I find no slippage or fishtailing, as they have a great center of gravity. I can drive in conditions that most cannot, or at least should not, due to the extremely good performance of the TJ.

Off-road is another story all together, I can (stock mind you, not all modded out) out perform any vehicle that is not a Jeep. I can go through trails and between/over hills that a LandRover cannot due to its' size. I can go through mud, pits, steep slopes, etc that other vehicles cannot due to the high performance of the Jeep, and the poor quality of Troopers, Amigos, Trackers whatever. Ever wonder why it's always the best at off-roading places like MOAB?

The people who should buy this vehicle are the ones that like to go off-road, the ones who need a vehicle to get them through snow, ice, mud, rain, whatever. The people who understand that this is heritage, there is a respect gathered between all owners of this vehicle, that understand they are not buying a car, they are buying a JEEP.

The people who should NOT buy this vehicle are the ones who are going to complain that it doesn't handle like a Mazda Miata. Who want to go fast everywhere they go and corner at 50MPH. The people who are just going to use their JEEP as a grocery getter, the ones who want to lower the suspension, the ones who complain that it is loud, too windy, too whatever.

The Jeep does not want to be owned by complainers. It wants to be owned by the people who will love it, take care of it, repair it themselves, give it mud and hills and snow. It wants to be owned by people who take their dogs on long drives just because, the ones who wake up early just to watch the sunrise, the ones who drive the backroads because they would rather watch the scenery than see it whizz by at 75MPH. It wants to be owned by people who live life in the slow lane. It wants to be owned by people who understand it as they understand their children. It wants to go everywhere it can, that's why it can go everywhere, and it will go everywhere for the right person.

Durability. It's meant for the trails. Think of the money you'll spend on all others.(repairs)I've launched it 5' high, 25' out. (50mph, bad landing) I got out to check for damage........none, hmmmmmmm (just my neck)

Weakness:

Gas mileage. 4.0L quick for an inline 6 but SUCKS gas.

2.5" BDS suspension lift w/31x10.5 BFG all terrain, AR wheels, 2 tops.
4.0L, hypertech chip, borla exhaust, rock-it intake tube.
Total aftermarket investment: 2K
I've beat the hell out of this vehicle and it never seems to stop going. I'm amazed of the lack of repairs for the abuse it has taken. I'm lazy and don't like to maintain, but hey, thats why I chose a Jeep. Screw all other jeep bashers. They are all looking for soccer-mom suv's. If you're looking for a convertible, buy a suzuki. TAKE IT OFF ROAD. If you're afraid to go, dont buy it. 65,000 miles and going strong.

Take out carpeting and then you can just hose out the interior. Take it to South America and you can sell it for 5 times what you paid for it.

Weakness:

Starting to see too many Wranglers on urban streets.
Also, looking forward to the production of a hybrid gas-electric model that cuts my service station visits in-half.

I bought this Jeep used. Vehicle is a YJ model. 4 cylinder like in WWII (when they never had to go over 50 mph :) ; 5 speed.

Many people have the TJ, which has the great coil spring suspension and round headlights. I kinda wish I had one of those.

However, I started to think "heah, these YJ's came off the line between 87-95, back when people in the business world still respected things like profit, real business models; basically, before the world went nuts :-)" Maybe the YJ and its odd square headlights symbolize all of those "lost" things. Maybe its the round headlights that are the "abomination." Maybe the TJs, though wonderful, represent a time period of "poor judgement "

Then I woke up. The TJs kicks ass and i still wish i had one.

Strength:

--Short wheelbase/ground clearance
--Excellent driving position/visibility/headroom
--Jeep's inline 6 is one of Detroit's all-time best truck engines. With its low-end torque I can often just power over obstacles and not even bother with 4WD.
--More aftermarket parts and accessories than for any other vehicle

Weakness:

--Stock Goodyear GS-A tires are terrible on wet roads. Replace with BFGoodrich TAs, the Gold Standard in truck tires.
--My TJ developed a water leak into the passenger area after a year. Dealer replaced the door and cowl seals and fixed the problem, but I've heard this still persists at random on newer TJs (a legacy from the first Jeeps).

In the congested area I live the Jeep has great maneuverability. In the country it's great for driving over the often poorly maintained access roads to get where I want to be. Vehicle has a fair amount of interior room with the rear seat out -- I've carried chairs and other bulky cargo without a problem. The driver's seat and position are the most comfortable of any vehicle I've driven. I drove the Jeep to Alaska and back without any problems. It was perfect for the variety of road conditions encountered in Western Canada and Alaska. Note: I have full doors and the hardtop with rear window washer/wiper/defroster. I wouldn't have made the drive with the soft top.

The Jeep TJ is a great vehicle for it's intended purpose. I'm amazed at some of the other reviewers here who criticized its ride, mileage and lack of interior space. Didn't they read the brochures and test drive it before purchasing? The TJ isn't a sports car or SUV. It's a short wheelbase utility truck. If that's not what you need, look elsewhere, but don't slam the TJ for not being a Grand Cherokee or Durango.

4X4 makes me feel safe in the snow and is tons of fun in the summer. I love being able to take the top off. Great turning radius and tons of ground clearance. Tons of aftermarket accessories available.

Weakness:

More mechanical problems than I care to list. I have only had this Jeep for a year and shame on me for not buying the warranty. I have one problem after another with this vehicle. The most recent and the most expensive being the transmission. I had it out of the shop after the transmission for less than a day and the catalytic converter went. I've always had both of those items last for the life of my other vehicles. I also feel this vehicle is under powered (should have bought the 6 cyl.) and for a 4 cyl. it really sucks the gas down. I'm afraid to sell it because I've put so much money into it but I don't know how much longer I can keep it without having to get a second job to support the maintenance and the car rental fees so I can get to work while it's in the shop.

I have a love/hate relationship with my Jeep Wrangler. I love my Jeep for so many reasons: 4x4 great in winter and summer, soft top great in the summer, tons of accessories are available to customize to your look. I hate my Jeep because it never leaves the shop!

unsurpassed offroad. Not that bad of a drive onroad, it's not the quietest, but certainly nothing I'd complain about considering all other benefits. The jeep "pride of ownership" the car is unlike any I've ever owned. ride height, seating position, turning radius, accessories, it's all good.

Weakness:

Gas mileage, it's really not that bad, I owned a ford explorer with a 5.0 V8 engine, now that had bad gas mileage. This doesn't come close to half that bad. nothing i complain about, but it's no rice burner 4 cylinder(understand)

I've driven Jeeps before purchasing, and KNEW that they aren't meant to be car like on the road. So don't complain about them. A jeep is a jeep. I absolutely love it. Take the top off, doors, crank the stereo, you'll never wanna get out. It's a girl magnet, easy sun-tanning, plenty of power from the inline 4.0 6. Ride is much better with the coil over suspension. Styling is classic. I got the Dana 44 rear axle with trac-lock differential. Sweet combo off road. 30' tires, solid stuff.

Poorest gas mileage of any. Lacks storage space with rear seat, But knew this from the others.

Have used this product for 45 years. My first experience with jeeps was when I was in the boy scouts and the scoutmaster was a jeep dealer. Them I spent 25 yr in national guard and had lots of fun times with the jeeps. In 1956 I purchased my first one and have had 18 since then.
