Strength:
Montero has a lot of room and plenty of power. It is a very safe SUV. It is great in the snow. Great sound system
Weakness:
Gas milage is bad, it takes alot of gas. It does not turn corners well. Maintenance is kinda on the expensive side. I love the Montero for my family it makes a very safe ride. |

Strength:
Spacious,Go anywear, excellent in wet weather or on sandy beach.Shift on the fly 4x4 system comes in handy.
Weakness:
Bad gas milage 18-21, but still better than most full size suv's. Expensive parts "$35.00-airfilter, With one rear seat folded forward my mountain bike fits perfectly (up side Down) with little effort or disasembly, an excellent and safe family SUV that has never failed me. With the rear jump seats up you can pack in a months grocies for a family of four or every thing for a camping trip.Good used car buy if you can do your own maintenance. The tires are hudge and very heavy, changing a flat is akin to wrestling a small bear. Oxygen sensor replaced at 25,000 miles under warrenty other than that I haven't had any problems. I feel that my family is safe in wet and slippery weather conditions of this or any other area. We haven't driven in the snow yet. I am very happy with my montero Similar Products Used: Ford Explorer-good truck |

Strength:
Spacious, makes you feel safe, awesome off roader, decent amount of torque and horsepower, nice sound system, reliable and more...
Weakness:
A little bit underpowered, expensive parts when you need them even though you rarely need them. For example my antenna broke on me, and it would cost something around 200 dollars to fix. I love warranties! I love my montero and wouldnt trade it in for anything, this is the second one i owned, and the old one didnt cause me any major problems at all, its reliable, versatile, and fun to live with. Similar Products Used: had a 96 Trooper it was alright, i go offroad a lot and the Montero seems to be better, the Montero is better styled (opinion) and it has a back seat. |

Strength:
It just looks absolutely beautiful from every angle. Drove it over rocks, mud, snow, ice, sand, steep terrain and this thing handles everything well. Awesome 4WD system and 5 speed Sportronic automatic transmission - let you feel in total control of the beast. Tons of space inside. Great build quality.
Weakness:
Could use more power. Suspension could have a control mechanism for road and off-road modes to get a more stable city/highway driving. Absolute Best Value in the segment. Best SUV money can buy if you want a true SUV. If you never go off-road and just want something pretty to drive around town get a X5, Pathfinder/Q45, MDX or RX300. Best looking truck out there! Similar Products Used: Acura MDX - just feels like driving a Subaru Outback with raised suspension and looks like the Honda Odissey - what's up with that?. BMW X5 - great looks and good quality but just keep it in the city/highway. Nissan Pathfinder - Very nice power and quality, but it lacks distinctive style and real off-road ability. All these trucks beat the Montero in city driving, but if I wanted a city slicker with AWD capability I would get an Audi A6 2.7T Quattro! |

Weakness:
Seat Comfort (no lumbar adjustment), Had To Glue In Seat Heater Switches (Design Flaw), Awful Heavy Steering In Tight Turning With 4x4 Mode, Expensive To Service. I bought a 1987 Pajero (Monterey) TDi as my first 4x4. It needed some welding and rust protection to the floorpan, it needed new tires (got Cooper Discovery), and a respray to the lower panelling. It was worth doing that since it was in general very good shape when I got it. Now it is in great shape for a 1987! It is a very reliable vehicle, interior space is excellent, driving experience is great, makes one feel like heading into the mountains or on a long journey into the Lapland tundra every day. It has 370,000 km on its first 2.5 liter turbodiesel engine. Note you American gas lovers, forget your thirsty V8s, TURBODIESEL is the best for torque, and torque is what matters in a 4x4! nice look, roomy, like a land cruser but $20000 less, Nicely loaded, like it so far
Weakness:
needs more power, like 10 or 20 more, other thenthat nothing yet, only had it for 2 days ...like it so far. i will recommend it to every body because its a nice family SUV not a racing car .. so live with the power it got. nice roomy inside ... thats a PLUS..... Strength:
What a great truck. More room then the 4 runner, pathfinder, rodeo, but not a tank like the Tahoe or the Dakota. Roomy, quiet, nice sun roof, fantastic radio. Im a big guy and the seats and driving position is very comfortable. Talk about a green house. 360 degree view was a main point in my buying this truck. Safety..
Weakness:
Needs more power. Needs brigher back up lights. Trans is a litty noisy at low speed. My wife loves it. Great for the kids and the 3rd row seat is there just in case, which is about how often we need it. It was fantastic in the snow. Quiet on the highway and all around enjoyable. I would by a two door as offered in Europe, but the don't offer it in the U.S. Similar Products Used: Tahoe, 4-Runner, Rodeo, Pathfinder, Sequoia (yea like 45K), Discovery |

Everything, Just love my car. It rides like a luxury car and has room for my son in the back seat, considering he is 6'4 this is quite an accomplishment. His legs dont even feel cramped in the back seat.
Weakness:
Havent found any yet. Have had it off road and on the highway. Just love it. Had a 4-runner for years and was looking for another SUV. Was about to buy the 4-runner when the Montero 2001 came out and I fell in love with it. It has as much room as the Landcruiser and I could keep the extra 20,000 in my bank account. I have recommended this car to anyone that asks. You will love it too. Similar Products Used: 4-Runner (this is what i traded in on it), Jeep, Landcruiser |

Looks. Ride. Braking. Sound system.
Weakness:
Front seat leg room limited if you are over 6'4". Gas mileage is not great. Small fuel tank compared to some other SUV's in it's class. Outstanding vehicle! 200hp motor has good(not great)pickup. Braking is awesome! It's one of the sharpest looking SUV's on the road. Ride is quiet and smooth. Much nicer than the Ford Explorer I previously owned. Similar Products Used: I previously had an Explorer for 6 years. It was a very good vehicle, but I like the Montero better. At least so far. |

Love the 4-wheel drive capabilities. Off roading was never a scary thing in a Montero!!
Weakness:
Not that much. It was a bit noisy, and you don't get that much power until the rpms get to the top. Also, the buttons for the windows and locks are pretty "loose." Compared with the Germans, this car almost seems like it's "falling apart." I loved the car... Really for after-market modifications. You can literally add on any accessory and the truck would still look great! Similar Products Used: It compares well with the Isuzu Trooper, that was the car that I tested along with the Montero. |
