AC is so powerful, my car is cool within 1 minute or less. Does not eat oil like it is going out of fashon. I am getting 300 miles on a tank in the city. Looks are good. Stero speakers are great. Seats are soft. No odd sounds.
Weakness:
Price is a little large. Would be good witha CD changer. Great car! Everyone wants a ride. It runs great. I dont take it off roading but i am a high school senior and I just use it to go back and forth but overall it runs great. Similar Products Used: Landrover's |

Weakness:
Gas mileage, stereo. Overall nothing major I love my X! Bad gas mileage even for a 4 cyl. Needs more storage compartments in the rear. I think the rear speakers cancel each other out? But this is a small price to pay for such an awesome truck!! Similar Products Used: Suzuki sidekick (need I say more?) |

Off-road ability, Nissan reliability, resale value! And did I mention reliability?
Weakness:
You need to make sure that you will be happy with the bumpy ride, since it is on a truck platform. This is a great truck! I have had my xterra for six months now and have put 10,000 miles on it. I have not experienced a single problem with it. I love the somewhat bumpy ride and the tough looks. This is most definately not a soccer mom SUV! XTerra SE 4WD 5-speed
Strength:
Styling Off-road ability (4WD version) Price Excellent performance in 4WD low Still ticking after being put through Hell
Weakness:
Oversteer with 2WD on slick surfaces Lack of power with V6 engine Gas mileage Having just taken my X on a 5,000 mile road trip through the Rocky Mountain west, I know it very well. I have the 5-speed V6 SE with the 4WD option (highly recommended. Basically, my experience with this truck has been great. The gas mileage is awful, but that's been covered a million times and if you're considering this SUV, you already know about it. A few things I've noticed since buying the vehicle: when it two wheel drive, the truck has a very bad tendency to oversteer on corners when it's wet and/or slick. This makes it very easy to lose control on a corner if you're not aware of the problem. I now flip it into four wheel drive (high) whenever it's slippery outside. Another thing to consider is the power you get with the V6 engine that's the most common engine found on the XTerra. I live at about 500ft elevation and at this altitude, it has more than enough power to comfortably pass at highway speeds and accelerate from stop lights. Note: this is with the 5-speed manual transmission. I test drove a 2002 model with the V6 engine and an automatic transmission and it was extremely sluggish, even at this low elevation. I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable passing at highway speeds with the automatic tranny. With this engine, elevation makes a huge difference. At Denver level (5000 ft), it still has enough power on tap to drive comfortably and safely. However, once you get much beyond that, things start to get tricky. My X had a very hard time making it to the top of Loveland Pass (Eisenhower tunnel) on I-70. The pass is over 11,000ft up and to even make it to the top required staying in 2nd and 3rd gears and flooring it. If you're going to be using the X in the mountains, DEFINITELY consider the supercharged version. The regular V6 just doesn't have enough power to handle it. Needless to say, the 4 cylinder version probably wouldn't make it. And while a tow hitch is an option, this truck really doesn't have enough power to do any serious towing. Onto a different subject: the 4WD version's off-road abilities. This truck really shined on the 4WD trails of Colorado. In 4WD LOW (lots of low-end torque), it had no problem making it up the high passes and over the obstacles (rocks) or through the sand (Great Sand Dunes National Park). My completely stock vehicle hung in there with the 4Runners, Land Rovers, Pathfinders, Hummers, etc. I think the Jeeps might |

Strength:
Reliability, durability, practicality, looks, re-sale value.
Weakness:
Gas consumption. But I was not surprised nor dissapointed as I knew what I would be getting. I did a lot of research before buying my XTerra. I focused on reliability, durability, practicality(Space), looks, ability to tow, price, insurance, re-sale value, gas concumption and power. I have neither been surprised nor dissapointed with my choice. I has stood up to all of the criteria I was looking for and then some. I would highly recommend getting on to anyone whom is interested in in an SUV. It's a giver MPG of and one other thing real tires stock Generals won't get the job done out in the Jungle you know? plus if I'm not mistakend I think there is a recall for them tires Fairly happy with my buy, Knew what I was getting into since I had a Frontier Crew cab before this. Just like they say on T.V everything you need nothing you don't but some more miles per/gallon would defently make a huge diference. Love the Super charge every ones in a while I put the pedal to the matal for some adrenaline rush. I took my X for a "down and Dirty" test to 1600 miles from LA to Sioux city NE loaded with just about anything you can think of from my dog (Rocky) to my Surround System along the hot desert up the Rocky mountains and green corn fields of Nebraska ohh and not to mantion some really mudie country roads.Made it all the way in 25Hours it was a killer I tell Yaa. Great looks, handling, lots of cargo space inside and out(bike rack and xtras). great power, quality is outstanding, excellent value for your dollar.
Weakness:
none! Second xterra i've owned, love this truck, hauls everything i need, hiking, biking and more. Seems nissan has listened to their customers suggestions, more leg room more power. Have 15,000 miles in only 4 months, no problems whatsoever. Great off road handling as well as on road. This truck was designed to haul and go everywhere. In a class by itself, nothing else compares to quality and value this truck will give you. Nice looking truck if not a little too trendy now. I think several OEMs have since tried to make copies of some of the styling features. The 2000 V6 is a pooch in the automatic option. I think the new models have a supercharged variety with 200hp. Nice to drive. I have done some long road trips in this vehicle and have never had comfort problems - I am 6'3". I have read some of the negative reviews on this site and am surprised by the people who complain about the lack of creature comforts... it was always marketed as a basic, functional SUV. If anything I thought the basic package was too frilly. Compared to the similar priced competition the X is a great value. I have had it for 2 years, put on 35000km and have had ZERO problems. Awsome off-road performance, if this truck can't get your where your going, you obviously have no business in the rocks!! This is the sharpest looking SUV out there. A terrific value.
Weakness:
The mpg is not great, but didn't expect it to be. The stereo system sounds a bit constipated, but a small gripe. H20 runs in the cab when you open the door, but deflectors will solve that. I have been an avid off road enthusiast for many years. Have previously owned 2 Isuzu Rodeos,( still have the 1993, with over 200k!!), and have always had positive experiences with japanese imports. My brother has had a couple of Jeeps that perform ok off-road, but were in the shop constantly!! When my wife and I went shopping this time, we wanted a capable off-road machine that would'nt break the bank, but still offered some frills. We were happy with the price, and constantly amazed at how much truck we got for our $$. We have both had nothing but positive experience with Nissan products as far as reliability. We spend a good part of our summers in the Colorado rockies, and we often tackle extreme 4x4 challenges. We have already taken our stock X on several routes usually recomened for modified rigs only. Not only has the truck handled itself with aplomb, we have yet to spin a tire, or get a rock bite. This truck is extremely competent off-road, and a pleasure to drive on the highway. It looks great(even to a couple of old farts!!), and turns heads wherever we go. Absolutely no defects thus far, WE LOVE THIS TRUCK!! Similar Products Used: Jeep CJ-5,7, grand cherokee(avoid like the plague!!). Isuzu Rodeo(not fancy, but great off-road, not to mention dependable.). |

Xterra SE-SC 5spd
Strength:
Looks 10 inches of ground clearance Nice power from the SC engine Insurance was surprisingly low
Weakness:
Seats aren't too therapeutic for a guy with a cranky lower back Future design improvement suggestion: create dedicated places to stow the loose bits; eg inside sunroof cover, rear seat cushions, roof gear basket (price is $Cdn) I am feeling very studly in my molten lava SE-SC - the 17 inch upgraded wheels add alot to the already groovy looks (watched Austin Powers double feature last nite) Its a truck allright. Riding high, and fearing no potholes. The SC engine is sweet - smooth acceleration, though it is still not going to snap your head back. Like everyone says, go for a car-based SUV if you want maximum comfort - eg the seats in the X are fairly benchlike, and not very adjustable. The sunroof is fine, but you have to take the gear basket off. All the people who complain about wind noise with the windows open - don't you have air conditioning? The 6 disc cd/radio is well designed, but as for the sound of the 8 speaker stereo that Nissan pumps so hard - the factory Infinity sound system on our 96 Voyager van blows it away. Gas mileage? Whatever. The price of a cool ride. Summary: I love it, with the above whines being minor issues.
