Strength:

it has all kinds of power. the five speed transmission allows me to turn over the 33 inch tires with ease through second gear and bark third and fourth.it is really nice on the inside and it rides good for a four wheel drive.the only road noise heard is the 33 inch mudders roaring down the road.

Weakness:

i think the worst quality of the whole truck is the radio. it is really punny with the small 4-6 speakers but i took care of that with a pioneer cd player and two pioneer 10" subs. the steering column also became loose and had to be replaced.

overall i believe this is the best all around truck available and not a dodge or a ford can come near it.i not only play in the mud alot i also carry it to the track and drag race it. i have put the truck though hell and have been unable to break it yet.i have not found a ford or dodge truck that could run beside it in the mud or on the track.i rated it a five on value rating because it is well worth the eight thousand dollars i give for it two years ago and the only reason it got a four instead of a five on the overall rating is because of the sorry radio and the steering column.but both were easily replaced.i believe this is a good truck for anyone who is looking for value and dependibility.

Model Reviewed: 2500HD chevy ext. cab duramax/allison

Strength:

lets start with the new DURAMAX diesel it is a 6.6 liter that !stomp! ford and dodge in the dirt with 300hp and 520ftlb's of torque stock equipment and gets 18-19 mpg with cruise set at 79mph up and down hills with ease.
I also think that this engine is going to be very dependable it is manufactured by ISUZU the worlds largest manufacturer of diesel engine.
It offers a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty. It is also at least half as quiet as ford and three times as quiet as dodge.
Now the transmission, "the new ALLISON 1000" it is a 5 speed automatic with a TOW/HAUL mode that actually downshift automatically and uses the engine to slow you down, so you still have the advantage of a stick.
The allison 1000 has been tested with stand loads of 26,000 lbs. It also features a PTO on the passanger side of the trany that will run anythig up to 35HP. You can also set the cruise to hold the RPMs at a set #.
The trucks frame rail is 8" tall the same size frame as a ford f-650 with a 16' flat bed.
I dont see any way of blowing out the 11.5" rear end, it is extreamly big and tough and also rated at 26,000 lbs. not to mention its big pinion ballancer for extended durabillity.
best breaking, handelling, acceleration for its class I guess thats why its motor trend top truck of the year.
I could keep going on and on but let's face it its the BEST TRUCK out there period.

Weakness:

This is very hard but i'll giv it a shot.
you cant fit quite as big tires on it like ford or dodge.
it's not as weak as ford or dodge
it's not as slow as ford or dodge by a long shot

What can I say other than how much I love this truck. I have never seen any thing like this truck its faster, quieter, more powerful, more comfortable, ect. than any truck in its class.
I dressed my new truck up with a set of 265 mud terrane tires and 16 + 8 weld alluminum wheels with special offset to miss the front bumper. I also tighted up the torrision bars a little to set the front end up level with the back ( to adjust torrsion bars simply tighten down the adjustment bolts located just to the rear of the trany one on each side make sure you tighten each side an equal amount of turns, it took me 10 complete turns per side. It not a bad idea to have your front end reallighned after modifications are done."
I also added 2 10' dimond audio subs with a pheonix gold 2500 amp in a custom box that fits neatly under the rear seat. thank to the matching carpet, when the seat is down it looks like it as part of the seat.
I have raced the competition ford and dodge and won with ease.
The only tip I have for any one with a duramax is be carfull not to overload this truck (if thats even possible) because its bound and determined to yank around any thing that gets in or that get connected to it.

Good looking, interior qualities, desent power

Weakness:

Transmission went out with only 62,000 miles on it. I hear clicking noise in engine when accelerating if I put cheap gas into it.

Probably overall I am not a happy camper. I bought the truck from the dealer ship with 51,000 miles. I only put 11,000 miles on it and the transmission went out. Put me in the hole of around $2,000. (out of warrany) Other than the transmission, I am very pleased with the vehicle.

Strength:

Before I purchased this truck, I compared it with the Ford F150 and the Dodge Ram.
5.3L / excellent power and decent fuel economy.
More cab room than all other trucks w/ the extended cab.
Seating comfort and car like ride.
Solid frame very stable on smooth road and off road.

Weakness:

Price is higher than the F-150 w/same options.
Exterior body style still favors old style looks.
Wheels are just plain ugly/even with the LT package.

I purchased this 1999 Silverado in November of 1998. I purchased the
LT series extended cab. I now have 57,000 trouble free miles.
Before I purchased this truck I looked at and drove the Dodge Ram and the F-150 Ford.
The Ford looks are the best in my opinion, however the 4.6L had no spunk
and the ride was no better than the 1994 GMC I was trading. The Ford was
cheepest of the three trucks with the same options.
The Dodge Ram was the most expensive, the looks are impressive on the exterior but very plain on the inside. The 318 V-8 was also unimpressive.
No spunk compared to the Chevy. After 2-1/2 years of use, this truck still
rides as new and I have no rattles.
I would highly recommend this truck to anyone who wants a Full size truck for more than just work. If you want a truck for work only and need to same some money than buy the Ford.

just work.
After 2-1/2 years of use

Strength:

Good power and reasonable fuel economy from the 4800 V-8
Exterior styling -- great-looking truck!
Comfortable interior with nice convenience features (auto headlights, etc.)
Very quiet and comfortable at cruising speed

Weakness:

Stock Goodyear tires stink
Minor issue with manual transmission occasionally popping out of first gear (though this seems to have subsided after 1500 miles and changing gearbox oil)
Front suspension a bit bouncy on bumpy roads
A bit pricey

Moved up to the Chevy from my Toyota because I needed more towing capacity for my boat. So far, it's been great. Love the small V-8; more than enough power to do the job. Swapped out stock tires for Michelin LTX M/S -- big improvement. Plan to replace stock shocks with Bilsteins which will firm up the ride. I have found the truck to be a dream on the open road, with a very quiet and comfortable ride (despite the fact that it's a short-wheelbase standard cab/shortbed). Four-wheel-drive works well in snow and mud. I like the convenience features that others complain about -- all cars should have automatic headlights! Only complaint so far is the manual transmission (a New Venture 5-speed), which has occasionally popped out of first. Dealer has been very responsive, though we couldn't reproduce the problem. I had them change the gearbox lube and it hasn't happened since. I'll be keeping an eye on it though. Haven't yet towed with the trick, but it should do a good job of pulling my Sea Ray!

Fast, powerful, extremely quiet for a diesel, comfortable ride,Allison 1000 trans. shifts smoother and effortless as any luxury car I've driven. Lots of space and compartments.

Weakness:

Price, looks compared to ford or dodge. Inferior sound system in the LS models.

Great truck and best diesel on the market of the 2001 models(friends that own dodge and ford diesels agree about power and quietness). Cat-quick up to 97mph, then the governor takes over.

Strength:

Very fast. Good gas milage. Smooth ride. Comfortable seats. Alot of room. This truck has been great to me so far.

Weakness:

The automatic head lights suck. On 99 model Cheverolet pickup, there is a light sensor that senses light. When ever the sensor senses light your headlights automatically turn off. When the light sensor senses that it is dark, you headlights automatically turn on. This enables you to have control over your headlight switch. Alot of people want to override this feature because of inconvience of having no control over you headlights. I own a 99 cheverolet pickup and for 2 years I wanted to be able to turn my light off when ever I need to for instance: to flash someone to tell them to stop, to drive through the country with nothing but your parking lamps on, to hide from someone, to be able to turn them off when waiting for someone in the parking lot, there are many reasons for having total control over your headlight switch. I have finally figured it out on my own. The dealerships do not even know how to do this. That is why I am offering it to you. any orders any questions ask me at chadkallina@hotmail.com

My experience with my 99 chevy has been quite well. I have only taken it in for the windows to be tightened cause they were rattling. Also a few of the headlights burned out. This truck is two wheel drive extended cab and it will go through alot of mudd. I think that it will out do some 4X4 in the mud. THis truck is a 5.3l and it is beefed up. This truck also cleans up very well. It is around two years old and still looks brand new. I like this roomy, smooth, powerful, classy, truck. It still feels brand new after 2 years of on road and ranch road miles... I would very much so get another one.

Strength:

If your looking to buy a truck pick the one that best suits your needs. A lot of people in here problebly dont own chevys but fords and are using this site to defere people away from CHEVY. I know 40-50 people that own chevy trucks and love them. I know 40-50 people that own Ford trucks and Love them. I know 4 people that own Toyota Tunda and hate it. They give it a high tow capacity but it dosnt live up to it. Very sluggish and many problems.
Tons of power, very quiet interior, People realize the tranny shifts hard with no weight. This truck is designed to haul some serious weight. Tranny smoothen up when hauling.

Weakness:

Price. Thats it I use this truck for my contruction company and it works like a dog hauling thousands of pounds a day. We overload it everyday with no problems with anything.

My Chevy is an American Beauty. I love it its my Bread and butter. I also own a chevy Corvette and nothing beats that. All you Ford bashers out there stop leaving bull about your imaginary Chevy Lemon.
