Strength:

good takeoff power, roomy interior, perfect cargo space. nice intimidateing front end.

Weakness:

gas guzler!!, sits kind of high(not good for pregnant wife), no take off power from 50 to 80 mph, dad only buys fords so I have to park on the street!

Im a ford man, my father buys nothing but ford trucks and grandfather nothing but fords also, I got a real good deal on this one, only had 10,000 miles on it. very roomy interior nice bright red exterior, I wish it had the stock 20's. Gas mileage could of been better, the bed is the perfect size, I had a F-150 crew cab(same type of truck fords name) and I hated the small bed.

Better than expected ride. Enough room, passenger and storage. Apperance. Dodge support. Fit and finish.

I love mine, I have only had it a week and have gotten better than expected fuel mileage, 15.5 combined. I have read all the talk about the poor milege of the Dodge but I hear worst about the competition. Mine has the 4.7l, 20" wheels and 3.92 limited slip.

Model Reviewed: Ram 1500 Truck

Strength:

Plenty of power to pull/haul truck size appropriate loads.

Dad had an old 85 Dodge Ram Truck. Still runs and starts every time. Bought my 2000 truck with 40K miles on it and love driving it every day. The 5.3 V8 has plenty of power for pulling my two horse trailer, but sorry guys, it doesn't compete with the powerstroke (when the powerstroke is running right). Plenty of room for everything I need. I can't wait to take it off road and try it out in the MUD!! The 4x4 is beefy looking and I get comments from men about my nice looking truck! Previous owner did some exhaust work and it sounds tougher than most.

Strength:

1- Awesome styling 2- Great low end power. 3- 20" wheels really get attention. 4- Normal operating rear doors.

Weakness:

1- Low mid-range power between 55-70mph especially when towing. 2- High step in height. 3- Poor MPG's 4- Could use a few more inches of leg room in the back so the kids can't kick your seat =) 5- Ugly side view mirrors.

The Ram is the best looking truck available right now. The sport package and 20" wheels really set it above the rest. Truck has been solid, no squeeks, no rattles, no problems. The 4.7L V8 is adequate but guzzles gas. I am averaging 13 mpg mixed city/highway driving. The 6'3" bed is plenty big for the average user.

Strength:

Looks, interior, body integrity.

Weakness:

everything about the motor: Power, mileage, reliability. Front-end had some unknown issues which Dodge acknowledged that they have received numerous complaints about. Dealer also told us that the "rough idle" and poor gas mileage was "normal" and that there was nothing that we could do about it. Nice.

We bought this truck to replace a `99 Ford F150 4x4 supercab that had numerous problems. The Dodge had only 17,000 miles and a full factory warranty with every option. Beautiful truck. Unfortunately, beauty is only skin deep. The truck got terrible gas mileage compared to our Ford, about 12.5 mpg mixed city and highway. The Ford got 18mpg on the highway. The Dodge handled terrible and we were assured it was because of the factory tires, spent $800 on new tires, didn't help. The engine felt like it wasn't running on all cylinders and we had the "check engine" light come on numerous times. Dealer couldn't figure out the problem. Fuel pump went out. Overall, the truck looked great, had a great interior with no squeaks or rattles (much better than the Ford), and seemed tight. But, it felt gutless, got terrible mileage, and was downright scary to drive on the highway. We finally bought a dedicated truck for towing our RV trailer, a `92 Ford F250 supercab 4x4 with a 460(got the same gas mileage as the 360 in the Dodge!) and just bought a 2001 Infiniti QX4 for a family vehicle. Much better for commuting and hauling kids. My wife says that she likes driving my lifted F250 better than the Dodge because it handles better!

Strength:

Great truck, well made, handles well, tows my 5,500 lb boat with no problem, huge interior, great looking! HEMI is worth its weight in GOLD!

Weakness:

The MPG isn't great, but what do you expect, it weighs 4800 pounds!

Bought a 1500 Quad cab SLT 2WD 4 months ago. I had been waiting for the HEMI to come out for 6 months and could wait no more. Bought the 4.7 V8 (240 HP). SO far I am pleased with the vehicle. I have been a Ford man for 10 years and this dodge is far better than anything Ford has to offer. The 4.7 V8 is FAR superior to the old 5.9, it out accelerates, and gets way better MPG! The MPG on my truck after 8,000 miles and 4 months is 15.5 on the highway and 13 in town. My friend has a 2002 5.9 V8 and at 11K miles he is getting 11.2 MPG! The interior is HUGE, I love it, the back seat is big enough for adults but doesn't cut into the bed length (6.5'). I got the Lone Star edition with 20" wheels and it handles great, I get lots of complements on them! PROBLEM - I went to my dealer for oil change and he informed me that the HEMI was out in the 1500 and gave me the keys to one sittin on his lot. OH MY GOD, that thing flat hauls! I turned a corner, put my foot in the 5.7 HEMI and the back 20" wheels spun completly thru first gear (tire smoke and all). Not an easy accomplishment with 20's! The biggest difference I feel is in highway accelaeration (50-80) where my 4.7 struggles the 5.7 HEMI is incredible, the speedometer spun past 80 and was headed to 100 at an incredible pace. I am headed to the dealer today to pick up the HEMI I ordered from him as soon as I got back from my test drive. I am gonna take a hit on my 4.7 quad cab but I DONT CARE! Just drive the 4.7 then get out and test drive the HEMI, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND!

Strength:

Good looks, comfort, style & amenities. Useful pay load (cu. ft.). Good paint. Useful creature comforts in the cab. I take care of tranny and have not had a problem yet (thank God).

Weakness:

Poor gas mileage (13.7 mpg average), leaky main seal, leaky thermostat, faulty speed / brake sensors. Stock tires wore rapidly. A/C evaporator broke early.

Great Truck! I have 80K on it and compared to the whiney reviews I've read in this forum, I have had only a few problems: Speed, brake sensors went out after only 36K and I had to have the evaporator replaced. And a couple of minor oil leaks. Otherwise the truck is excellent! I have not had any tranny problems - yet, but I have had the tranny serviced twice and the tranny mech. said to expect an overhaul around 110 to 120K. The truck drives great, is roomy inside and in thje bed. I haul somthing almost every weekend and it really pays for itself. I put good Michilin radials on it and it drives evan better!

Model Reviewed: 2500HD Quad Cab 4x4 Long Bed Laramie

Strength:

Almost "diesel-like" towing ability. The Hemi is everything they claim and more. Very stable when fully loaded or towing. Great warranty on the powertrain. Reasonably priced and comprehensive extended warranty on non-powertrain items. Best crash test rating of any truck (means a lot when my grand daughter is with me). This truck has impressive performance, a comfortable ride and draws attention everywhere it goes. Great local dealer sales and service staff.

Weakness:

Gas mileage is an "okay" (for a 3.5 ton truck)11~14 MPG. Currently limited aftermarket tire selection for Dodge's 17" wheels. Get the 4.10 rear end if switching to larger tires. You can forget parallel parking. I now know that parking lots are marked for vehicles a mere 20' or less. You will PAY for what you get, but at least you get more then you would from any other brand.

Having owned Chevy trucks for the past 25 years, I have to admit that this new Dodge is a VERY solid truck. The new 5.7 Hemi was quite a surprise with it performance and towing capabilities, even with the 3.73 rear mated to a 5 speed. I expected the ride of the 2500 to be harsh, but even after installing BFG 35x12.50 tires, the ride is very smooth (for a truck). Dodge has made driving a vehicle that weighs over 3.5 tons and is over 21' long is almost too easy. The truck is very stable at any speed, with or without a load or pulling a trailer. Dodge's attention to the details really shows with their latest offering. The fold down rear floor is very convenient and capable of hold some seriously heavy loads. Everything from the adjustable pedals to the adjustable lumbar support makes for confident and comfortable driving from myself to my 5'4" daughter. Don't be surprised as the chime goes off to remind you that you've left your turn signal on and haven't turned. THAT'S DETAILS! The Laramie's interior will easily compare to the just about any expensive luxury sedans, but the top or the dash and other plastic parts do look out of place and a tad "cheap". The amount of storage areas and compartments are unbelievable. All of the controls are within easy reach and thoughtfully placed. The white faced instruments are well laid out and easy to read at a glance. Even with all the luxurious appointments and creature comforts, it still makes for one outstanding work truck. In the wide variety of situations we've put this truck through, it has yet to have disappointed us. From it's "granny" first gear to it's seating capacity of six adults (realistically, 5 adults with the manual shift), this truck fills all of our business and my personal needs. If the next ten years are anything like these first 3 months, I'll be driving a Dodge truck for a long, long time. So long Chevy!
