360 is gutless Transmission Clunks when shifted out of park Resale value

Used a friends 1995 Dodge with the 5.9 360 for a little less than a year. At the same time, I was in the market for a truck of my own... needless to say.. I bought a chevy. The 360 has absolutely no power. Pulled a 18 foot equipment trailer (10,000 gvw) empty for about 30 miles, couldnt get the truck to break 40 miles per hour going up the slightest incline. Same trailer with a 8,000lb tractor on it, with my 1998 chevy with a 5.7L 350 pulled a steeper hill at 50mph. Dad has the 8.1L 496 probably pulls until it cuts out at 98mph. The only thing I could say about the dodge that I liked was the stereo install was a bit easier than in my truck.

Strength:

None that are noteworthy.

Weakness:

Transmission, Rotors.

Mom always said if you can't say something good, don't say anything. She wasn't referring to vehicles. I should have checked out this WEB site before I bought my RAM 1500. Since I didn't I have paid the price. I had to replace the transmission at 56000 miles. I put lots of miles on my vehicle each year.(I average a little over 30000.) I drive very sensibly and have my vehicles maintained on a regular basis. This is the first and last Dode I will ever own. I also had to have the rotors turned when the brakes were replaced.

Chevy Blazer, 12000 miles in 4 years, needed a transmission after 75000 miles. Cadillac coupe deville 176000 in 6 years and no problems.

Great looking truck. Awesome interior. Drives great when not in the shop. Gear ratio could add more performance. 13 miles per gallon. Have to replace transmission at 72,000. Have had major braking system problems with rotors. Brakes take too long to stop. Had to replace fule guage sensor. Other than the transmission and brakes and minor electronic issues, the truck is great. But, If you decide to buy the RAM, make sure you put away an additional $10,000 for future repairs.

THE MOTOR!!!!. CUMMINS!!!. Great looking truck!, all my buddies are envious of "Big Red".

Weakness:

Very minor things...1). fuel sending unit, if this vehicle was in the USA, I would have the sending unit taken care of under a recall. But because I live in Canada(the truck is built in the USA), Chrysler Canada does not recognize the US recall and will not fix it(the fuel gage does not work, and you can not run out of fuel in a diesel, without doing serious harm to the motor). 2)Paint chipping on lower part of my two tone paint job. 3) Those damn cup holders!...worst possible design!.

I purchased my Dodge 2500 3/4 ton Cummins Turbo Diesel used with 155000 Km's(no lie). This vehicle is amazing...I would never be able to afford one new, so I consider it a small miracle I was able to find a used one at my local Chevy dealer!. I can't say enough about the Cummins motor, as I'm sure anyone else who has had the pleasure of owning one can attest. This is the consumate truck owners vehicle, nothing else even comes close to a Dodge Cummins Diesel!.

Weakness:

Paint quality is alittle lacking, chipping alittle on the hood and top of cab, this will be corrected shortly though

Awesome truck, If you have ever known a person that puts a vehicle through the ringer, its me. I abuse vehicles alot. This is the only vehicle that has ever been able to take the punishment that i dish out regularily, I have never had a problem with this truck, power to spare, i test drove a dodge ram hemi 02 yesterday...no better proformance then i already have in my 5.2 liter motor. i have put 160,000 plus miles on this vehicle with only oil changes, never even had a tune up, gets average gas mileage. This vehicle can pull at over a 100 mph all day long with no problem. I will never again purchase a Chevy or Ford. Dodge rules.

rides like a truck but that is what it is

I have had the truck since march 97. I have put over 125,000 miles on the truck. I use the truck for everthing that can be done in a truck, from towing more than the truck is rated at, to loading way more in the bed than you should ever put in it,traviling from souther va. to boston mass. The truck is great off road( have pulled out many other trucks from chevy, fords, toyotas.Power is good for a small V8 (5.2) is had no problem out runing fords. Have had no repairs done and modifications .

Its A good truk. i have the diesel with the five speed manual trany and never realy had a problem. I've driven lots of difernt types and id have to say dont get a auto trany and dont get a gas powerd type unless you want a knoking motor and cluncking trany. reson im posting this is leard something new about the drive train last week and i think all should know my warenty expierd and i needed new ball joints and tie rod ends 400.000 km lol well my surpriz the dealer quoted me $389.00 for each balljoint well i knew something is up with that and told the dealer to gfhs and went to a local mecanic that does my k-car and he orderd the ball joints from gmc for $75.00 each this means the drive train on the truck is gmc i'm very happy with my mecanic now so dont get giped by crysler order from gmc it seems crysler is getting these parts from them and changing the box and adding some zero'[s to there price lol

Still having my buddies say "Doc...huge nice truck...trying to make up for something?"

I bought this truck mainly for my new wife because she has horses. My buddy I bought this from did alot of modification to it including the Banks Turbo System, Jake Air Brakes, Rancho 9000 shocks, Electric brakes, etc..... I must say this the THE BEST truck I have ever driven (if I can get it away from her). The pulling capacity and torque are unbelievable. Alot of times, I find myself looking back to make sure my load is still back there. Even fully loaded, I'm passing sports cars going up the mountain like they are standing still. These are rare finds....Have not found any in this good condition on the used truck market
