Strength:

great hauling and great power, have even pulled a few logs off hills while getting fire wood, great in the winter we love it

Weakness:

radiator has actually blown up on it once, also it spins the tires when you take off , so much power that is overlooked though but can be a little pain when taking off on a hill in the winter

This is a 4x4. The front end shakes and steering wheel darn near jumps out of your hands if you hit a bump on a curve with or with out using brakes. It's hard to get it to stop, you have to come to a stop to get it to stop. We have replaced all the bushings the track bar which was 300 from dealer, added after market double shock to stabilizer shock, replaced front drive line axle ujoints. replaced rotters twice and brakes. It is maddening because we have checked the beerings and everything is tight, wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Please let us know, we are tired of this problem. This thing skakes so bad that it can't be any good at all for the front end, and it is spendy to replace parts and one of these days we fear something will let go while in one of these full front end shakes, it's sure scarey

Strength:

Cummins turbo diesel

Weakness:

The Dodge that they put around the Cummins is really kind of a piece of crap.

Bought new in July of 99. The Cummins diesel is great. Have had problems with the fuel guage, front shocks, brakes(repeatedly), auto transmission(twice), air conditioning compressor, interior lights, trailer hitch(recall) and more. Selling dealer unable or unwilling to repair it...I'll never understand the criteria for Dodge to award some of these dealerships their "five stars". If I had to guess, I'd say that my truck was built just before lunchtime on a Friday.

Strength:

styling and cab features, durable chassis and body, cruises at high speed with the best of the suvs.

Weakness:

engine knocked and pinged till dodge put out an electronic update, now instead of pingigng, it cuts the knocking cylinders out and falls on its face. shifted correctly, all is good. rear axle has chewed up two sets of support bearings in 85k, heater core blew out, and keeping the belt from squeeking has been a constant problem. 2 peice driveline used on this truck has always been a bit jerky on hard starts, get one with a one peice if you can.

all around it has been a good ownership experience, truck looks and drives great on highway trips especially. the high ratio rear axle with a 318 (5.2) yeilds a steady 15 plus mpg. manual trans is smooth and helps the gas mileage if used right.

Strength:

'94 got ok mileage on the freeway, 16-18 mpg, and rode like a car. Hauled a load ok, too. The '99 loves to haul a load...full ton of wood pellets without breaking a sweat, and even hauled a small farm tractor IN THE BED!!! I made it a point to drive past the Ford and Chevy dealers!!! Gas engine strong enough to pull a 21' travel trailer, probably even a 24 foot. Love the body style!!!

Weakness:

The '94 went through 3 trannys in one year (thank God for warranties!) Mostly seals or filters giving out. The '99 has 60k miles on it and knocks and pings going up hills, even empty. Haven't found a cure, yet. 11 mpg in city/14 mpg on freeway.

Owned a '94 1500 2wd with 318 V8 and AT for 2 years, and traded it in on a '99 2500 4x4 Quad Cab with the 360 V8 and 5sp manual. Loved the '94 and the '99 is the best looking, running and hauling truck I've had.

None

Weakness:

Bounces when driving on major highway. Loud engine rev at time takes power from the 5.9 v8 360 ow yea that’s right 300 HP

Take this truck out before buying even rent one for a day to see if this is what you want because a 5 min test drive at the dealer is not enough time this is a large purchase so take your time

Strength:

Looks good and comfortable to drive

Weakness:

Gas milage is terrible, Has all kinds of mechanical problems such as pulling right or left which the dealer has never been able to fix. The motor makes a lot of noise. The truck sways a lot when pulling trailers, and is really not usable with any kind of weight in the bed at all. The front end lift is extreme and the truck labors with as little as 1/2 yard of dirt.

Looks great rides and pulls terrible I would not recommend this truck to anyone. I understand I have the 318 magnum and it is not a monster motor but this truck is a joke.

Strength:

good stock power on the 4.7 V8 (245 hp) which i easily bumped up to 295 hp with a cold air intake and dual flow exhaust system.

Weakness:

gas mileage sucks for just a riding type of vehicle, a good day with the wind to your back you get about 12-13 mpg

the new dodge ram has sweet styling with a new and improved interior design, i love it! round clear headlights and signals, great all around chrome and a monster grill to match the furious wheels!

Model Reviewed: 1/2, 02 3/4 diesel

Strength:

The 1/2 ton with a lift kit will drive over anything. The 3/4 ton diesel has plenty of power for pulling and rides pretty comfortable.

Weakness:

1/2 ton lacks pulling ability, at 73000 miles both heads had to be replaced, luckily under warranty which they covered, also several recalls. The 3/4 ton having only 15000 miles has had no problems.

Owned a 98 1/2 ton ext cab 4x4 automatic with a 360 and 02 3/4 ton ext cab 4x4 automatic with the diesel. Overall I wouldn't own another brand of truck but I wouldn't buy another 1/2 ton, go for the diesel!

Strength:

I feel very comfortable with this truck. I wouldn't hesitate to drive cross country by myself in it. It goes up mountains like they aren't there. In the 5 years that we have had this truck, we've had to replace 1 window switch--twice we've had a duel line leak- and once a fuse went out in it. Of course,we've had to do the usual maintenance on it--- but it the most dependable vehicle we have ever had.. Our oldest son was so impressed with it -he went out and bought a new one 2 years ago. He swears by his truck too. We had previously always owned Chevy and Gmc. vehicles. won't go back. This is a keeper!!! After 5 years and all the potholes in the Phoenix streets- there isn't one rattle or sqeak in the whole thing.

Weakness:

What weaknesses? Mine is a standard shift. And the only problem is getting stuck in traffic and holding the clutch in with 57 year old legs.

We bought "my baby" 5 years ago. From the first moment I sat in the drivers seat, I knew my husby wouldn't be doing much driving. This is my truck and i have put over 100,000 miles on it myself.

Similar Products Used:

Had Chevy and Gmc trucks, cars and vansin the past. Going to keep this truck till it absolutely falls apart. That will probably be a long time from now.
