Quad Cab 4X4
Strength:
Looks and interior
Weakness:
Weak engine, weaker transmission, unbelievably terrible gas mileage. Only 10 in town, maybe 12 on the highway and must use 91 octane or better to stop the infernal pinging. In shop getting new tranny as we speak with 44000 miles. Rear end clunks, broken leaf springs at 32000, breaks are minimal for a truck this size. Had throttle body redone at 30000 miles. It continually whistled and just about drove me nuts. Dealership tried to BS me into believing poor gas mileage was from 265 tires instead of the 245s that came on it. Somebody said a sucker is born every day and boy does Chrysler know it. Last Dodge ever for me. Thank GOD for extended warranties. This truck looks good and interior is nice but that''s it for anything nice I have to say about this hunk of metal. Similar Products Used: 90 Chevy, 96 Chevy, 99 Chevy. All good trucks and why oh why did I buy a Dodge?? |

Good looks and interior room for me. But nothing else!!
Weakness:
God awful gas mileage. 10 in town and very seldom over 12 on the highway. Pings on anything but 91 octane or better. Transmission out at 44000 miles, broken leaf springs for no reason, stutters going up hill, rear end clunks, throttle bottle replaced and so on and so on The last Dodge for me. Have had multiple troubles and get a lot of BS from the Dodge service department. My terrible mileage is due to 265 tires instead of the 245s that came on it. Yeah right!! I am retired and this truck could push a guy to his grave. Well somebody said a sucker is born every minute and Chrysler knows it. good looking, roomy, pretty quiet running
Weakness:
trans shifting, front steering after buying truck, 2 weeks later the fuel pump went out. 3 thousand miles later the brakes had to be replaced and rotors were turned, not replaced. They said that it was improper greaseing when being installed at factory. at 4 thousand the front shocks had to be retightened. At 40 thousand the track bar rod end went out, What you experiance is what they call a death wobble in your steering. Check lukeslinks to replace. They say its a common problem that can be solved for 50 bucks and alittle of your time. The hing for the drivers back door broke after 5 thousand. The tranny shifts constantly while driving on the highway while going up inclines. Taking it out of o-drive is fine but 65 to 75 miles per hour, and not being in o-drive can''t be good for the trans and gas mileage. Iwould take it to the dealer but my warranty ex''ed out 4 thousand miles ago. convertor went out after 3500 miles. Any body got a suggestion? |

Ram 1500 Regular Cab
Strength:
Handles like a car. You don''t feel like you''re in a truck. Has a great exhaust note and very good power out of the 4.7L engine(240 HP). Handy interior with plenty of room behind the seats. Excellent brakes and handling for a truck.
Weakness:
5.9L engine is dated. Look out for the 5.7L Hemi(345 HP!!). GM and Ford don''t have anything that will touch that I drove a 1995 Dodge 1500 for about 5 years and the new one is like driving a totally different vehicle, which is is. Similar Products Used: 1995 Ram 1500 |

Dodge Ram 1500
Strength:
Never had any mechanical problem at all! Did my oil changes religously and upgraded the tires to Cooper Discoverer 10ply...never had a flat, dead battery, nutin. The driving height is great, good visiblity, and never questioned whether I could get where I had to go....From Cedar Rapids, to Great Falls, MT, to Hell''s Canyon, I never, ever got stuck, whether it be on minimum maint roads or logging roads with rocks above 10,500 feet.
Weakness:
The 360 Mag will shift into passing gear up hills and into heavy winds, and stay there, if you kick it down into overdrive it will go right back. MPG goes from 9-12 mpg under the above conditions, and 13-16 with a good tailwind...therefore the upgrade to the diesel, what I''ll save in gas makes up the difference in payment. Mine also has a noise in a steering assembly housing caused by friction, but it doesn''t affect the truck, and I''m deaf to it now. This was my first Dodge, and I wanted performance and a comfortable interior as I spend up to 15 hours/day working in it. I put an average of 35,000/yr on my rig, and I work it hard as alot of my work involves off-road driving and driving on the shoulders or ditches. The Rams do have a pinging problem under load or climbling steep hill, or the 40-70 mph headwinds we get in these parts, and the software upgrades don''t fix it, BUT at my 60,000 mile service, I upgraded to titanium plugs and it hasn''t pinged since. I have 75,400 miles on it in 27 months and am trading it in on a 2500 with the Cummins turbo diesel this weekend. I''d definately recommend it. Similar Products Used: Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado |
