Ram 2500 QC 4x4
Strength:
Cummins,6 speed, highest tow cap. largest payload cap. bigger axles than the other 2 brands(GM & Ford) Better value if you get the Cummins opt. instead of the V-8/V-10 Magnum opt. Comfy & roomy interior, seats 6(if need be) vs.only 5 on Ford & G.M.,fuel economy(19-23mpg empty/13-16 pulling the trailer) trip computer, nice ride height,10 year/100K warranty on engine, reliable tow platform, and a few other things.
Weakness:
"A" pillars too wide, engine noisier when cold, back seat needs improvement in comfort, the seat-back is too steep. 4 real doors(fwd hinged) would be nice. Overall, a truely awsome "rig"! Dodge did an excellent job with these. Too bad they had to tweak the looks again(''02 1500 series). I like the looks of mine much better than the new ones. I originally bought this truck to haul my camper up to Maine on the wknds, but find myself driving it too much as it is. I can''t get enough of it! This truck is just too much fun to drive. Since I bought it, I''ve racked up over 53,000 miles on it without any glitches. Not bad since I purchased it new, almost a year & 1/2 ago. The thing I like most is the big Cummins engine and the 6 speed gearbox. Feels more like I''m driving a semi truck than anything. At night people think I''m an 18 wheeler passing them on the interstate. When they hear that turbo spool up,and see all the cab lights, etc;they move WAAAY over to the side and hug the white line. When people see us pulling the 28'' gooseneck trailer behind us,they look at us in awe. It''s a really neat feeling. Dodge IS the Mayor of truckville. Dodge Ram Ext. Cab
Strength:
The 5.2 liter V8 gives the beast more than enough power, save for only the heaviest of towing jobs. Like I said, I only bought the 4x2 model, meaning it lacked the stiff off-road suspension, making for a very smooth ride. The cab is plenty spacious, offering plenty of leg and headroom for most any passenger. The only problem may come when you need a great deal of legroom in the back, and that can be easily resolved by sliding the front seats up, as they have room to spare. Rear bench folds up to increase cab storage space, and entry to and from the rear of the cab is relatively painless, in spite of the fact it only has two doors.
Weakness:
It’s an excellent machine, but it isn’t perfect. The only problem is gas mileage; and it’s killing my wallet. The sticker said “City 13, Highway 18,” but it seems to get even less. This, coupled with a 35 gallon tank, can hurt your pocketbook pretty easily. I was skeptical when I first began looking for a truck. Two of my frat brothers pretty much talked me into buying a good truck rather than a smaller (and cheaper) car. Going in, I didn’t know much about them at all. Now, I consider myself a veritable expert on the subject. This being said, the product I (obviously) decided upon was a ’98 Dodge Ram 4x2 extended cab. I got away with paying around 14k for the whole thing, and it was well worth the cost. I would recommend this vehicle as an mid-level truck for people who want some serious size and power. Roominess, Excellent horse power, nice sound, looks great even with a little mud up the side of it.
Weakness:
Gas mileage: not too bad at 20 but nothing like my camaro This truck is awesome. It looks great, it definatly runs great. Never had any problems with it. It has 84k miles on it when I bought it and runs like a dream. Paint still shines, interior is in mint condition. Absolute perfect pickup. Very well insulated from road noise. Great ground clearance. Towers over all other trucks on the road.
Weakness:
Standard tires look too small for this big of a truck. A s.o.b to park in crowded lots. Roomiest truck ive ever seen... can fit myself and 5 friends comfortably. Handles great and gas mileage isnt too shabby.(4.7L V-8) And I just love the shift on the fly 4wd. Similar Products Used: 2000 silverado |

Have 4x4. good offroad. has good torque. I think dodge is the best looking truck on the road and I love the interior.
Weakness:
transmission, under powered motor, brakes Disposable truck. At 26,000 miles engine started clattering, took 2 months to get fixed, dealers said they were waiting for software upgrade to fix timing problem. If you buy one opt for the 5.9l, they dont get any worse gas milage. The 5.2 is a dog. Transmission is the worst. It aggrivates me something fierce. Constantly shifting in and out of overdrive. Sometimes lurches when in the 40 mph range. No vehicle should shift to overdrive at 40 mph. Planning on buying a hypertech program module to change shifting points will see if that helps. Both power window switches have gone out, $135 a pop. Dodges are are priced cheap for a reason! p.s. I took my dodge into get my steering wheel centered at maxwell taylor, to do this they took from front end out of allignment and ruined my tires, they also said that the transmission lurch was ok and was "supposed to do that." what a great service dept. Looked great in red, only 1/2 ton in 98 with strait front suspension.IFSs are for highway trucks only. Too bad 1/2 ton ram goes IFS in 2002
Weakness:
More power is always nice. Next truck will be 3/4 ton with the new in 2003 354 ci Hemi,410 gears.----Bob Cat skid loaders are heeaavvyy. This was my first 4x4 and I love it. Only problem was intake manifold leak, caused high oil consumtion. 360 had fair power. Changed gears from 355 to 409, very good move.Transmission was a lot less busy, only turned 2250 RPMs at 70 mph. Unless you drive on flat lands only and run empty most of the time you will like this gear change. I trade it in for a Durango for the wife. She loves the SUV, I miss my truck. Power, handling, looks, roomy front seats.
Weakness:
Cannot select air to blow out of console and on feet at same time without engaging air compressor. That is dumb. Back seat is very uncomfortable on trips: Chevy has a much better rear seat. (The 2002 solves this problem, GO DODGE!) I have had two 98 Dodge 1/2 ton 4x4s and loved them both. The 360 is smooth and powerful. Drove an 89 up the Alaska hwy, had the 318, did not do as well on fuel economy as the 360 and did not have near the power pulling up hill. Averaged about 8 mpg on the 4k mi. trip. (great engine, but the 360 RULES) The gas mileage is great for a truck. I got 24 mpg on a 1,000 mile trip where I had to drive 55 (following my grandpa.) I get about 15 mpg at 70, 12.5 in town. I have owned MANY 4x4s and these Dodges are my favorites, ever. My wife''s Expedition is a top-heavy station wagon w/no guts. I have never had a mechanical problem with either truck. I drive on snow five months a year and use the heck out of the four wheel drive: no problems, always GREAT. My trucks are WORK tools, they are a real Man''s truck. Oh, and do they ever look good! I have beefed up the suspension on the sport model, added dual exhaust and thrown away the stock air intake, and this one will blow away the stock 98 which is otherwise identical. Stock they are too constricted in air flow/exhaust. Similar Products Used: chevy s10, 1500, 2500, 3500, s10 blazer f-150, Expedition Mitsubishi Mighty Max (Best Compact for $ in the World) |

unbelievable the truck is gone now thanks to arbitration and we are proud owners of chevy''''s once again. To help with some problems that some of you are having like the ignition ping, we had the computer reprogrammed and that seemed to satisfy the truck for about 1500 mi. then it returned. they changed the intake manifold, plugs, wires, coil, TWO pistons, cam and lifters and still didn''''t fix it. Steering problems, i troubleshot that myself and found it was the steering gear box. The problem with the tranny constantly shifting eventually led to THREE tranny changes, so be careful. I tried high perf. tranny coolers and still they crapped out. by the way all this was at 24000 miles. had the front and rear bumpers replaced twice. rear axle once. headlight switch once. radio and one speaker. windshield was loose. tailgate rusted through under plastic molding. hitch was replaced. muffler rotted out. and the fourth tranny had started slipping before we got rid of it. mind you, this truck had NEVER been used to haul anything but kids and groceries. it also developed an engine knock before we got rid of it. there is more, and i mean alot more. needless to say DCX lost their asses on this truck. i wish all of you the best of luck with yours because we were excited to have one and turned out to be a disapoinment beyond belief. Strength:
Plenty of power, handles great while trailering anything from Sea-Doo''s to medium size tractors, turning radius is very good for a 4 wheel drive and I love the over-all looks of this truck. Paint has been durable and shines up well even now after numerous hunting/ fishing trips. Love the thought that went into maintenance procedures with lots of the hardware (shock mount bolts and nuts and various other things) having ''tabs'' on them so you dont have to hold them (nuts) with a wrench while tightening. (The tab prevents them from turning, leaving both hands free to work a ratchet etc.) Adequate room in the rear seating area for grown-ups. Locking differentials work as advertised and suspension is firm but smooth.
Weakness:
Poor gas mileage (13 mpg at best), Cab quietness/ insulation is a little lacking, able to distinctly hear shotgun shell hulls rolling around in the bed. Wind noise, while not terrible, is not great either. Steering is kinda sloppy at highway speeds and even after 2 front end alignments (from two seperate shops) still has a tendency to want to ''wander'' a bit (factory wheels and standard size tires). At 55,000 miles a ''freeze plug'' on the rear of the engine (the hardest ones to get to, of course) started leaking a LOT. Dealership fixed and claimed it was corroded from poor anti-freeze. (All other plugs were fine(?) Did notice that even a moderate grade hill causes transmission to down-shift at highway speeds....going to what seems to be an excessively high RPM for not having a ''load'' on the vehicle. (This is extremely annoying while in cruise control.) Cup holders for rear passengers is in a dumb place, (practically on the floor). A/C compressor has a distinct ''whine'' to it...and after riding in another new Dodge pick-up and hearing the exact same sound, this seems to be the norm. (Ford owners that are used to hearing that "patented" power-steering pump sound won''t ev My first Dodge pick-up after being a long time Chevy pick-up owner. Bought a used (42,000 mi.) 4X4 sport package, ext. cab, 360 eng, auto trans, with aftermarket 3" body lift kit. Red with gray fabric int. Similar Products Used: Chevrolet P/U''s |

Strength:
I like the ground clearance, interior room, and the torque. I do like the fact that there are allot of after market product for this truck. I have installed a power tower, Air max ventilation system, and 3" rear dual exhaust to help with the power problem and I have better mileage now. I am getting 15 city and 21 on the highway. The horse power jumped to 365 after these products were installed.
Weakness:
For the size enigne (5.9) there is not enough horse power, the transmission needed to be replaced after 52,000 miles, and the gas mileage was terrible before the after products. Roughly 13 city and 18 highway. I like the truck. There is allot of room in the cab to fit my family, and the bed is big enough for my toys and my K-9 working dogs.
