Strength:
I've had my RAM since new in fall of '94. Now have 208,000 miles and the short list of things that I've fixed/replaced are;timing chain @100,000miles;fuel pump;brakes 3 times. Still get 14mpg on highway.
Weakness:
Front bumper folds over at smallest bump...replaced 3 times. Can't complain about a truck that's gone this many miles for me. Similar Products Used: None |

Dodge ram 1500 4x4 Off-Road
Strength:
Higher stance than the competition, nice styling, awesome off-road capabilities, comfortable interior, etc. I've boned so many chicks in the back seat without any discomfort.
Weakness:
made in mexico, bucks when accelerating in sand, slow acceleration, rough truck ride (but who cares anyways, it's a truck!), Truck is holding up ok despite for a leaking head from factory which I had replaced. At 20,000 still drives like new.Brakes are holding up ( my old '98 brakes lasted only 15000 which is Bull). I've looked at the Chevs and Fords. Chevs have too many issues (friend has a 2001 Z-71 that's falling apart and has too many recalls, another buddy has a F350 that just looks too plain in the interior and is in the shop more than once a month). We'll see how long this truck will last. I just wished the Tundras were just as big as the American boys. Besides, chicks dig the American trucks! Similar Products Used: 1998 Ram 4x2 |

bought the "truck" with 8800 miles, at 20000 miles the tranny went out(now slipping again)not even a month later radio died, 22000 miles, new valley pan installed in engine, 22500 miles new gaskets installed on engine, 23500 new piston and rings installed(from ignition ping)and computer reprogrammed for ping(still has it today)26000 miles an entire lifter kit installed on engine, 28000 miles new coil and wires installed. 29000 miles engine is missing on two cylinders at any given time(still not fixed). since new this "truck" has had a pull that comes and goes, dumb asses at dealer can't figure that one out either. tires suck. windshield loose. rusting. both bumpers replaced. speakers loose in doors. brake rotors warped. anti-lock in-op. dealer service SUCKS! for static display purposes in an enclosed room so nothing can make it rust, it is a perfect vehicle. If you need a vehicle to take to the gas station, don't count on it. this truck has never done a lick of work since i have owned it. My 16 yr old chevy rotted to the core with 200,000 miles has had to do it all and has never let me down. boy was it a good feeling to tow that mopar crap to the dealer with my chevy! Similar Products Used: 4 gm trucks, all driven to the junk yard with NO LESS than 400,000 miles each. one gm car driven to junkyard with 500,000 miles. my real truck is a 1985 chevy with 202,000 miles paid 1000 for it 2 yrs ago, i replaced a starter. dodge..........worthless. |

1500 Ram SLT Club Cab
Strength:
Had under 68,000 mi. when i bought it, nothing major has ever been fixed/replaced on it. No problems noticed anywhere. Perfect running condition. Love the power and the look.
Weakness:
Only the gas mileage but it's alot better then my last one. Great truck to have, has plenty of hauling power. I've noticed the problems people are having with there Ram's and I've noticed that most of the problems are from over hauling and most likely not keeping up on mantenance of there vehicles. GMC Chevy and Ford can't touch the Ram. Similar Products Used: 91 D150 Dodge Ram-only had minor computer problems and paint peeled off |

Strength:
Great looking brute with awesome lines. Handles well and cannot even tell you are towing things.
Weakness:
Tranny went out at 61,000, brakes a constant pain in the butt, spare tire assembly had to have torch taken to cable to release spare when I had a flat, mileage decreased from 15 - 17 under 5000 miles to 11 -13 after. Engine knocks for first 5 minutes of running and dash has major squeeks when below 50 degrees out. Front grill started rusting in the first year. I wanted a RAM since the current MAC Truck style came out years ago. I finally got into a financial position where I could afford one and what a dissapointment. I will never buy or recommend a Dodge product agian. Called Chrysler on the tranny and not able to get through, line always busy (To many problems with vehicles maybe?). No reply to numerous emails on the subject either. Similar Products Used: Sierra 1500, almost 180,000 miles with only some slight smoking out the tail pipe after about 100,000 (usually when cold and always for first few minutes after starting). Will never buy dodge again! |

Ram 1500 Reg Cab, Short Bed
Strength:
It has quite a few great qualities. It's a big, solid truck that feels great. Super comfortable and sturdy describe it best. Doors close solid and it's nice and quiet inside. Sits up higher than anything else in it's class. Feels like a truck not like a car disguised as one. Interior is well-appointed and everything is where it should be. Looks great in and out. Better value than the GM, Ford or Toyota offerings when considering the $2000 rebate I got. Even so, a great value. Excellent sound sytem with the 6 speaker and factory CD player. Bravo! Drive one and compare with the competitors...you will buy a Dodge if you really want a truck that feels like a truck.
Weakness:
The paint scratches fairly easily but I also have a dark color (Garnet Red). That is the only weakness if any that I have found. Do yourself a favor and drive a new Ram even if you aren't considering Dodge at all. Before you spend too much on a Toyota or GM, check out the Dodge. With the redesign coming out in August, you'll find great deals on the 2001 last of the current generation trucks. These are great vehicles. Don't let the GM boys tell you their "new" motors get better mileage. Compare window figures...they are the same! I average 17-18 mpg with my 5.2 liter with about 65% highway and 35% city driving. I highly reccommend this truck. Similar Products Used: Ford Ranger, GMC Sierra |

Dodge Ram, 5.9L, 6 cylinder Dis.
Strength:
Great looking, has plenty of power even when towing heavy loads.
Weakness:
It's never left me stranded but it's been in the shop way too often. It has loud rattle in rear of truck that no one can find or fix. Makes a loud "clunk" when going over even the slightest bump. Drives me nuts! Brakes are terrible. I'm on my second master cylinder, second set of calipers, and 4th set of brake pads with only 62,000 miles. Brakes constantly pull to the left and then sometimes to the right. There should be a mandatory recall for this brake problem. The FM radio is not working. Fuel guage is not working. The transfer case shift lever rattles. Fuel injectors leaked and had to be fixed. Eats tires, I'm lucky if I get 20,0000 from 50,000 mile tires. Air condition controls failed and had to be fixed. All in all it's been a real drain on my pocket book and my nerves. Unfortunately I've gotten to know the guys at the service center very well. The details are listed in the Weaknesses section above. It's been a good truck, and I use it hard, but I also take very good care of it. It just seems to fail too often. The main problem are the brakes. They are terrible. Similar Products Used: I had a 1984 Dodge Ram that had some minor problems but nothing like this one. |
