Strength:

The dodge ram is a powerful truck that has lots os plus's to it. Rams can pull very heavy things that other small sized trucks cant. They also can hold more in the back end. They are heavy duty powerful trucks

Weakness:

Therent arent many bad qualities to rams. One thing that comes to mind is the price of the trucks. In some cases they are a little over priced but that is ok because you are getting your moneys worth.

Dodge Rams are great trucks that have many uses to them. I think that they are the best truck on the road today. My experiences have been great with my truck. They go through the snow and mud great. Inearly never have a problem with the engine and its a truck that i can feel safe with on the road.I hope that people take the advice and go get one of thse trucks becasue my experiences have been great!

Strength:

Strong engine especially since Banks Power Pack Stage II added. Handles pretty good for a big truck (with addition of Rancho shocks) Great off road capability.

Weakness:

Had to have hood repainted when 3 yrs old now the roof needs it. Front brakes needed frequent pads until I got smart and used carbon metallics.
Right door now has a leak when it rains...wet carpet. Takes a minute to get the tranny pressure up enought to move it when I start it cold. Belches a lot of smoke when I start it.

57,000 miles no engine problems. Several recalls including steering.
Generally I like it and will consider a 2002 model when they change over.

Cummins Engine is AWESOME!!! This truck does not have the options or fancy extras of the newer style trucks....doesn't need them. This is not a truck for the 'city boy wannabees'. This truck is meant to work hard!

Weakness:

Not as stylish as other trucks. Very basic options.

This truck has performed flawlessly! I bought it with 125,000 miles on it and it just keeps running. Gets 20mpg on the highway all the time. Has lockouts (superior to shift on the fly and electronic crap for lazy butts that can't get out of the truck). New style Dodges look good, but too hard to work on. This truck is easy to maintain, no electronics crap, very basic but reliable. Starts without any problem at -30F!!!! Unbelievable for diesels that I know of! Truck rides a little rougher than new ones, but again, this is no sissy truck like the newer ones!

My truck looks bad ass, sounds good, nice and tall, big interior. I do NOT have paint chipping problems, Cd player never failed me.

Weakness:

Replaced tranny at 60k, repalced front and rear brakes($$$$), need a new tye rod(mine is screwed, reg. driving too),oil leak, O2 censors keep melting inside my cat conv., rides like a log wagon (new shocks and all), check engine light on always, my 4x4 wont stay locked in(that really pisses me off, thats why i bought a 4x4 , TO USE)!!!!!!! I also have a lot of ping sounds under the hood when i floor it. Well, i think that about does it. Why cant dodge grow some balls and fix their trucks right. I DO take care of my truck, i baby it , thats how i know all of its defects.

I love my truck that is why i still have it, but dodge has to do something with these promblems. If they wise up they'll realize they will sell alot more trucks if they put out good ones! I'm still keeping hopes for my truck though, maybe if i replace everything on my truck i wont have to worry about it for awhile.:)

Strength:

Looks, driving.

Weakness:

Quality???
Gas mileage (13 mpg w/305)

Within the first two weeks, the truck would not start in cold temperatures, and a knocking sound developed in the engine compartment. After three trips to the service dept., a new starter (to replace the new starter) was installed and a falty battery tie down was (finally) identified as the source of the knocking.

No problems since then (knock on wood)...

Otherwise a good truck!

Model Reviewed: ST Ram reg cab v6

Strength:

Everything, I read a lot of bad reviews and I don't agree with any. I've owned for 2yrs. and no problems the v6 gets about 17 mpg. Has excellent towing ability (anything i've hooked up to it). For just a v6 it is outstanding. Just as long as you keep it maintained the truck will probably last as long as you let it. One question- the people having problems, did you maintain and take care of your truck or are you stupid and let it break down because of poor maintenance

Weakness:

If you don't keep it maintained like scheduled fluid changes, tire rotations, etc. it could go bad. But so would anything else. Other than that no weaknesses.

I've had only good results out of my standard cab no unnecessary crap v6. I recommend full heartedly for you to buy one!

Strength:

I bought my Ram in 1994-Short bed 4x4 5.9 slt-one of the first ones in the area. After seven years I still love the looks, power and interior space and comfort.

Weakness:

Gas mileage, poor paint quality, and reliability. The catalytic converter rattled at idle and the shocks wore out at 30000 miles. I had to replace the transfer case at 38000 and the transmission at 74000. Some of the interior pieces broke including the O/D on/off switch and the fan knob.

Until Dodge improves the quality of the Ram I would not buy another one. The truck was a pleasure to drive and looked great but the high cost of repair($1600 transfer case,$2000 transmission) outweighs the positives. I just sold the truck and bought a 2000 Toyota Tundra which is smoother, has similiar power and is quieter than the Dodge. I dont like the looks or interior as much but hopefully it will be more reliable. The F-150 left me on the road dead twice(ignition and exploding clutch). The chevy was a crude workhorse that never failed(love that straight 6) but had the interior comfort of a rock.

Model Reviewed: Quad Cab 5.9 Diesal

Strength:

This is my seconed dodge ram. My first was a 1996 quad cab 1500, with a 318 v8 engine. I loved this truck, but needed somthing that would tow hills better. Thus I bought the diesal. In reading other reviews on the 2000 Dodge, I would have to chime in: Lot's of interior cab room and amenities ( cd, dash lauout, comfort, storage space, ect). Fuel consumption has been fair; 15.o mpg towing app 8,000 lbs, 22.0 level ground not towing and an overall average of 13.9mpg city / freeway. To date I have not had it back to the dealer at all. There is very little I dislike, see below.

Weakness:

About the only thing that I do not care for is the noice. Dodge needs to solve this problem. In comparing the Dodge Diesals noice level to Ford, the Ford is much quieter. This is probaly due to the differance in an in line six to the v configuration of the Ford.

To each his own. Dodge has a good product here. I would buy one again.

5.9L engine has good power, and towing. Comfortable interior. CD player is nice. Great looking truck.

Weakness:

POOR quality. Have had it back to the dealer for warranty work 4 times in 14,000 miles. Service manager said that was not bad. Where does he get his idea of a quality vehicle from? All I can figure is, he was dropped from high altitudes as a child! I have owned Dodge's since 1975, and this is the worst one I have ever had. If it would have been my first Dodge, it would be the last! This is not a stripped down truck. It has all the options, and the price versus quality is not there. My most recent trip to the service dept, was for gas in the oil. Guess what? They said it was normal, and there is nothing wrong with it, even though the level is 2 inches over full on the dip stick! Chrysler was no help either. When I talked to them, they told me I should have it towed in for repairs, but the service manager said to just drive it in. I have been back 3 times for a rumbling noise under the floor boards. The dealer can't find it, and says it doesn't qualify for the lemon law. He calls it a rattle. I know the difference between a rumble, and a rattle. I have had paint problems, but with the sliding rear window. The paint just fell off of it. They put a new window in, and it's been OK so far. I stopped in the middle of a hill, and when I tried to continue, the truck wouldn't move. The engine reved high, then the trans kicked in, but it only happened once. I'm only getting 10 miles to the gallon on the highway. I'm afraid to check it in town!

Where is the quality for all that money? Chrysler used to build high quality vehicles, but not anymore. I am very dissapointed in them, to say the least. I used to swear by Dodge trucks, but now I swear at them, and Chrysler. This truck still looks great, but I also need to drive it. If you are looking for something to set in your driveway that looks great, then this is your truck. Just don't drive it, and you won't have any problems.

First 4 wheel drive. Like the clearance and the availability of 4WD. Comfortable bucket seats if I take my wallet out of my pocket. This is the first V-8 I've owned in years. I forgot what power was. When I first got the truck, there was excess noise coming from the driveshaft. It was replaced without question by the dealer.I've got 18,000 miles on it now and have had no problems since. It has nice, tight handling. If I drive at 60MPH, I get about 16-17 MPG, If I drive at between 55 and 60 MPH, I get 20+ MPG. Go figure. I've driven through snow 2' deep without a problem getting stuck. But above that, It starts trying to push the snow with the bumper, and she'll stop. It's a truck, not a commuter vehicle. If you want a toy, get something else

Weakness:

Paint does seem to chip easily. Factory tires aren't very agressive.

Based on my experience so far, I would have no reason to switch.

I've always driven Dodges. My last one was an '88. Very dependable truck.
