Strength:
This is my 3rd Ram, but my 1st 4X4. Also owned a '94 V6 regular cab lwb and a '98 quad cab swb 318. Haven't had any problems woth mentioning with any of the three trucks. The interior is designed so well, that comfort is definitely factored into design. Have done limited desert driving in AZ with the 4X4 and have had no problems. Truck runs great, and I get a lot of compliments on it. Ready to go hunting and camping with it.
Weakness:
The only drawbacks I have to this truck are the gas mileage (13 hwy, 10 city), and the price tag-but what can you expect in CA? I have hadf only two minor problems with the truck that I need to get and I already have over 6,000 miles in three months on it. The problems are: one of the fog lamps isn't properly sealed and has to be repaired/replaced, and one of the handles on the rear seat that is used to lower it is not functioning properly. Minor problems that can be expected when buying a new vehicle. Let's face it, how often do you buy a new vehicle these days where EVERYTHING is perfect? Highly recommend. the interior to me is superior to the Chevy and ford offerings, and I like the layout and appearance of the interior. I've got the leather, and I highly recommend if you can afford it. Also, the sound system in the truck is superior to many aftermarket systems. I would suggest getting the 6 disc changer with the 5 band grahic eq, though. That's my favorite. Just be prepared to carry your wallet with you when you go on a road trip if you've got the four wheel drive. It won't be long untilyou stop to fill it up. But if you can afford the truck, the gas bill shoud be within your means, too. Similar Products Used: '94 and '98 Rams, '98 and 2001 Ford full size trucks. |

I love this truck. IT was the best birthday present I have ever recieved. The 5.9 V8 has all the power you will ever need, I pull a 28 foot boat and the truck doesn't even know it is there. Everone gets out of the way as you drive down the road, I have added 4 - 550 hells to a 10,000bld push bar. under that there is a line of fog lights and running lights. There is a total of around 14 lights on the front and all I have to say is the dodge body still is out of this world. I have owned it for 4 years and have never had a problem, so I don't know what everone is talking about.
Weakness:
Like I said, I have no problem with this truck, the gas mileage is alittle tight, but I have put in duel exhause and brought the hourse power to 270, next and I replaced the front hood with a ram air hood and blow box, just for alittle extra look of meanness If you want a vehical that is great in ever sence of the word then dodge is your truck. Mine has all the opions, it has the 5.9 V8, SLT package, black paint, 6 foot bed, and an extended cab. As I drive down the road, everyone turns and looks. I like to think the are looking at me, but I am pretty sure it is the truck. It was a great truck stock, and I just added a little extra, but this is diffenatly the meanest looking truck out there. Great off-road vehicle and looks nice. That's about it.
Weakness:
First and last time owning a Dodge. After dealing with a high-pressure sales person at Raymond Dodge in Glenn Mills (NEVER BUY FROM THEM), I went to another dealer and bought the extended warranty (a must for anyone purchasing a Dodge). Then I needed a new rear, new wheel bearings, new torque converter, new emmisions computer, and several other little things that were not covered under warranty. This was the worst investment of my life. I am taking a loss and trading it in before it kills me. I would not recommend it at all. First, Raymond Dodge in Glenn Mills uses high pressure sales tactics and little tricks to trap you. Second, the truck fell appart for the first six months I owned it. If I did not buy the extended warranty, I would have been out thousands of dollars. Finally, ALL my friends and family that own Dodge trucks (five of them) all complain about them. Positively a beautiful looking truck.. thats about it
Weakness:
Been in the shop 4x for the same problem in 5 months. First time was when I was out of town, 900 miles from home when the brakes kept freezing up on me and no dealer would touch it without waitingf 5 days, I was stuck there.. Chrysler Customer service is absolutley the worst! Kept going around and around about how and when to fix it. Overall I basically like the vehicle, but since I've never gotten anywhere with Chrysler on the weak points and repairs, I need to go elsewhere. a extremaly solid reliable truck. no money in engineering wasted on the perifials.I have put 400,000 plus kilometers on this truck in the harshest enviroment in north america. This truck has yet to let me down.
Weakness:
door hinge pins are weak, had to replace them several times.A larger interior would have been an asset. This truck is now elevin years old and I use it daily for farm and personel use.I forgot to plug it in the other night(-27 degrees celuis)and it started after two tries.I would recommend this truck to any one who has to haul large loads or for farm use and off road.I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a Sunday drive as it rides like a tomato wagon. My three sons also have dodge trucks and feel the same way as myself.Thank You Similar Products Used: gm and ford 4x4 pu.s there was no comparison to this year and model.I found either model to not have the load capacity nor the durabilty of this truck. |

Looks! Was/Is a great looking truck
Weakness:
My checkbook and I are scared to crank it every morning for fear of what will break or fall off next. Pathetic truck! I have spent a fortune on this heap in repair bills. Let's see, as of 48,000 miles, I have had to replace: sterio, two batteries, alternator, brakes(including rotors), one fuel injector, and throttle body. This doesn't include normal stuff such as spark plugs, wires, PCV, distributor cap, and rotor as recommended by the dealer or the 4 recalls by the manufacturer. Now, at 50,000 miles, check engine light came on! What next? Don't purchase unless you have a lot of extra cash you want to flush. Similar Products Used: I have owned several full-sized trucks. This is by far the least reliable of any I have owned. |

Black Beauty. Plenty of power from the 5.9. Sits nice and high.
Weakness:
Where should I start? At about 2000 mi. the alternator had to be replaced. The paint would probably chip off from blowing on it. The trans. started slipping at about 1500 mi. The rubber bushings Dodge uses on it's shift linkage are a lousy design and the trans is in gear between neutral and drive on the selector on the dash. The engine whines at 2000 RPM and above and pings all the time. The 17" tires look tough but aren't worth the rubber they're made of. I had a tire go flat while sitting in the driveway due to rocks between the tire and rim and a leak in the yellow goop that the factory had sealed the tire to the rim with. For some odd reason, Dodge gives you a smaller spare than the tires on the truck. Aren't trucks suppossed to come with full size spares? After just 50 miles driving on the 1.5" shorter spare the rear end makes all sorts of racket. The dealer first told me the spare was in the specs but later told me not to drive on it. Like I had a choice. The heater smells like wet cardboard sometimes and the CD player is a bit tempermental. At idle the truck makes all sorts of strange noises. The rubber flap that prevents the road grime from going up into the fan and being blown across the engine ripped off after going through a puddle at 25 mph. And through all three trips to the dealer for 25 individual problems they say most of it will go away with time or is normal. Dodge designed a good looking truck but the engineering under all those good looks is lousy. And the dealerships should hire some decent mechanics some customer service personnel who care about what they're doing and don't make up excuses all the time. Dodge makes a really nice looking truck, but unfortunately, the engineering under the hood isn't quite up to what GM and Ford are doing. The Off Road package, in my opinion, is too much of an option for the 1500 model. Maybe it would do well on the 2500. It's not worth the hassle of dealing with the service department every two months to own one of these vehicles. If I had it to do all over again, I'd buy a Chevy or GMC.
