The Ram 1500 is the full-size Dodge half-ton pickup that is redesigned for 2009 with aggressive style now expected from the Ram but in a more aerodynamic package. The new design includes a body-mounted grille that is canted forward, an all-new aluminum hood with more pronounced power bulge, large headlights that flow back into the front fenders, a front air dam that is fully integrated with the front bumper and a rear spoiler integrated into the tailgate.

Strength:

This truck has tons of power (if the v6 has this kind of power I would like to drive the v10), great on gas, GREAT DESIGN, tows like a charm, great color of patriot blue, most comfortable seats I have ever been in, sound system is better than most premium sound.

Weakness:

none (This is the only thing that I would say that about).

I paid a whopping $13,500 for this truck and it has more options than some $20,000 trucks. Go out and get yourself one!

I do a lot of driving and this is a good over the road truck. It fweels like I could stand up to a good hit.

Weakness:

First trans went out at 33K. Second trans has never gotten all the bugs worked out after a year and 45K miles. It still feels like torque conv. or trans is slipping. They said the diagnostics don't show anything. Hey! Look at the tach! It looks like its keeping time to the music. Dealer has been fair to work with but they can't fix anything the first try. Service Dept is full of blank stares. I'm ready to get rid of it. My first Dodge was a new '77 Sportsman Van and I hope this wouldn't be my last. I wish someone could tell them or me what's wrong.

If I could get the service dept on the same page, this might work out. I sure am getting tired of them.

Inside comfort and room. Looks are great.

Weakness:

Brakes,tires,A/C, and transmission all wore out before 25,000 miles. This is the third Dodge truck I've owned with similar problems - No More Dodge!

The styling of the black sport sold me instantly. I was willing to forgive the last two bad truck experiances and move on. I finally have learned my lesson, I will never purchase another Dodge product....never! Good looks alone do not get the job done. Chrysler really dropped the ball on reliability in their truck division. My next truck is a Chevorolet.

Strength:

Sharp looking, great acceleration, 17MPG hwy, nice short turning radius, quiet. The 318 (5.2) engine was ok on gas and still towed 4000 lbs well.

Weakness:

At 78,000 miles the fuel pump went. Towing/parts/labor came in at $600.
At 111,000 miles the catalytic converter plugged, and the engine pinging was identified as the intake gasket. At 112,000 the engine started making noises and the oil light came on five miles LATER. Replaced the engine. At 113,000 miles the engine started to ping badly and was fixed with new plug wires. At 114,000 miles I traded the truck.

I had absolutly no problems except those above. The regular cab is hard to resell since everyone is looking to buy the quad cabs. The ride was nice for commuting, towing and dirt road use. I would not use it off-road without a limited slip rear axle. I have bought a new Ram Quad Cab Off-Road.

Looks great but looks are deceiving.

Weakness:

Bad Oil Pump

I bought the Dodge Ram in September 1999. I had no problems with it until September 8, 2000. I was driving across the Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg when the oil light came on (first time any indicator lights had come on). Since I drive 100 miles per day I change oil myself and change it frequently. Within seconds after the oil light appeared the motor made a horrific noise but I was able to steer it to the roadside and it would not start again. Towed it to the dealer who said I need receipts showing purchase of oil otherwise the warranty would not cover. Technician states that the oil was "like mud" and the engine is totally gone. I have one receipt for April one for June and one for July. It is impossible for this to have happened as I did have the oil changed. If anyone else has an Oil Pump problem on the 1999 Ram let me know and maybe we can start a Class Action.

Great looking truck. Regular cab short bed makes for easy manuvering in tight quarters. 5.9l v8 engine gives me plenty of power. Very quiet ride. More than enough room in regular cab.

Weakness:

As of right now I'd have to say nothing. Aside from gas mileage which is a given with any full size truck.

I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone.

Style, comfort, and stereo

Weakness:

The engine knocks, I had this fixed (replaced intake gasket) this took care of the foul smelling air conditioning and knocking for a month. The knocking is back with a ruff idle. The brakes have been replaced twice in 20000 miles, they still sound like the truck is going to fall apart. The trip computer took a trip after 5 months. The paint chips very easily. The transmission "CLUNKS" when I shift into gear. I've taken it in 3 times for this problem, I guess i'm supposed to fix it myself.

When I bought this truck I thought my car troubles were over for a while.
I didn't realise the service department was going to lie to my face, waste my time, and cause lots of stress in my life. I paid 24000 for this faulty product. I need it to make my living, and it spends 4 days a month on average in the shop (apparently not getting fixed). Don't buy one. I'm getting a Toyota.

Weakness:

Two sets of brakes in 20000 miles, still noisey. As far as the service department is concerned just driving this tough truck causes this. Engine knocking after 1 month, replaced intake gasket. This improved the foul smelling air conditioning, and noise for two months, but it's back with ruff engine idling. Transmission "CLUNKS" when put into gear. The paint
is chipping everywhere. Trip computer went on a trip after 5 months. I was being shocked when exiting the truck, just touching the door. The service departments waste my time, I've had mechanics lie to my face about the engine knocking, while test driving it together. I feel I have to hold their hands when it comes to fixing my goodlooking dog dropping of a truck. They keep the truck 3 days a month on average, which leaves me unable to use it for work (the reason I bought it). I wonder how many times I will have to leave in the shop for the current problems engine knocking, trans clunking, ruff idle, and brakes only to be told it's all normal.

If you are thinking about buying one of these be warned you are also paying for the service dept. to waste your time, talk to you as if you are a fool, and give you stress. I'm am going to buy a dependable Toyota.
