Model Reviewed: Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel

Strength:

Powerful diesel much better than ford and chevy. Truck has over 150,000 miles on it and not one problem!! Great mileage for a 5.9L engine. When I pull a trailer I get 23mpg on Highway. City is about 20mpg.

Weakness:

Nothing the truck runs and drives like new. Never had a truck like it before.

I paid 24,000 for it new and is worth every penny. Dodge is doing a great job.

Strength:

big tough truck with a great engine

Weakness:

Too big! turning around in tight spaces is simply impossible, cupholders are a joke

overall not that bad...it can be a real pain sometimes when i'm trying to round corners. You have to open up cupholders to use them, which is no small feat, especially while driving, and once you do get them open, they close right back up unless you put something in them. The engine's good though, nice and quiet.

Strength:

Lots of pulling power from the 5.9 V-8. Vary nice ride for a truck. Quad cab rear doors are nice.

Weakness:

Not as smooth looking as the Silverado and the F150. Rear leg room and back seat not as nice. Needs lots of gas!

Great trailer pulling machine! Has alot of torque. Quiet carlike ride. Well thought out interior layout, although could use a little more work on the rear seat on the quad-cab version also needs more rear seat leg room and headrest.

Silverado pickup. Didn't pull trailers as well. But otherwise vary nice truck!

Strength:

smooth ride, roomy, comfortable, powerful.

Weakness:

strange engine noises, gas

A lot of the time I don't feel like I'm riding in a truck, very nice, smooth ride. It's roomy inside. A surprisingly comfortable back seat for a truck. It's powerful. I filled up the back with rock steps, and I barely felt any performance hit. The stereo system is decent, and all the controls are easy to use and within reach. Also, I feel very safe in the machine.
There are strange engine noises that I can hear. That damn knocking noise. Seems like many people are hearing it. Also, the gas mileage is terrible, but what do you expect, it's a truck.
I wouldn't recommend it for familys. Its a truck. But it's the un-truck of trucks.

Model Reviewed: 1500 Quad 4x4 Long box

Strength:

Road comfort! This is the road trip rig, no highway vibration fatigue after 3-4 hours without break.
Roomy cab, well thought out cockpit and bed design, few blind spots, holds everything and everyone I need it to. Quad doors are superb! Good fit and finish still after a year, nothing has loosened or clanks. Very decent gas mileage for the power.

Weakness:

The pinging is driving me crazy. Sounds like class-action lawsuit material if that pinging is doing what I think it is doing to the inside of my engine.

Why is there no recirc/ fresh control on the heater? a real pain in traffic.

Rear seat is perfectly serviceable for short trips, but its no Silverado seat by any stretch of the imagination.

Extraordinary vehicle. SO COMFORTABLE FOR TRAVELLING. I can fit four people, ten mountain bikes and four dogs without cramming. 5.9 tows very well for a 1500. Handling is calm and confidence-inspiring. No paint problems at all so far, but I have the white flat paint which has supposedly the sturdiest finish.

The back seat is a little silly. How much more effort or cost would go into putting a smidgin of contouring into the bench? Its nice how tightly it packs away, but come on use some engineering imagination, Dodge. Especially when the rest of the finish details are *so* well thought out.

And please, add a separate fresh/recirculated control for those of us who have to drive in traffic.

The pinging problem is exasperating. If its eating our engines and Dodge knows it, well, guess they'll be purchasing us some new engines here after a while. Five stars except for this ridiculous engine problem.

STEVE

Strength:

The power and Tourqe of the 360 cid and 488 cid v10 engine.
Strongest and the most realible truck I've ever had.
Lots of pulling power. I like passing those touqe challenged silverados on the road when pulling my trailer.

Weakness:

Just needs more touqe from the diesal. I think that The Cummins will solve this.

If it's one thing I hate its that redneck on tv pomoting that cheby silverado. Frist of all it has a car engine under the hood not a trucks. As for long jevity. I seen dodges with up to 250,000 miles and still running great. try that in you chevy or ford. Dodge also has the best 4x4 on the market. Yes I would recomend it because I've seen to many used and new GM & Ford trucks in the shop being repaired with engine or transmission trouble.

Model Reviewed: S-10 L/S Ext. Cab V-6

Strength:

V-6 Vortec engine has more than enough power. Very comfortable seats (highback buckets). Well thought out positioning of gauges, switches, etc.. Great A/C.

Weakness:

Wimpy styling. It is not "tough" enough looking. I wish it sat up a little higher. The passenger seat vibrates on the highway from the seat back shaking. Rides like an aircraft tug. Harsh tight ride. I feel like I need a kidney belt on a rough road. The gas gauge is about 3.5 gallons off. It stays on full for about 3 miles and stays on empty for about 100 miles.

I paid $15,700 for the 97 S-10 Ext. Cab LS. V-6, Auto, Buckets and a $1750 rebate. I just got t-bone broad sided 2 days ago in it. The truck that hit me left on a tow truck and was totaled. I drove mine home and waiting to get it repaired. First est. is $5000.00. I will probably get rid of it for the only reason of I would like a truck that looks like a truck, and rides like a car. Not looks like a car, and rides like a truck. I want something a little tougher. Other than that personal reason, the Chevy S-10 does a great job, especially if you get broad sided.

Model Reviewed: ram 1500 quad 4x4

Strength:

The look and ride are great. Quad cab is very handy.

Weakness:

Quality of entire engine and tranny.

Dont buy one! At 800 miles I had to have a new tranny put in after three trips to service. At 10000 miles it now rattles like crazy, dealer says dodge is working on this (sure they are). I have a feeling the quad doors are going to rattle as vehicle ages. Seems like alot of issues for a new vehicle. Definitely worried about post warranty period.

Model Reviewed: 1500 RAM 2WD SLT

Strength:

360 V8 Power, Looks, Towing 4000# is easy, Extremely easy to do maintenance on. The interior is very comfortable.

Weakness:

I have to agree with others that the paint is a litte thin.
Also the service department I have dealed with can be really great or suck horribly depending on which manager I get. I had to sell one of my legs to buy it(but that goes for any of them). I had a problem with pinging on 87 octane, but have fixed it by running 89 and changing out the plug wires and plugs with higher quality parts.

I love this truck and plan on buying one for my wife ASAP, she also loves it and she has been driving pickups for about 16 years(mainly fords). I use my truck as a daily driver and drive 40%/60% city/hiway and average 14.5 mpg. During the winter I tow an average load of 3500# of 5 ATVs on a tandem axle trailer for numerous round trips of 320 miles through mild mountains and the truck handles it great, much better than the Cherokee I used before. I would recommend these trucks to anyone.
