Model Reviewed: extracab 4x4 v6

Strength:

V6, 4x4. Reliability. Reliabiity. Reliability.

Weakness:

Seat and Ride leave a bit to be desired, but if you want comfort, you shouldn't be looking at trucks anyway.

Extremely happy with this truck. My first new automobile purchase, and I have moved with it at least six times so far. The only warranty issue I had was a broken headrest clip (don't ask). It got fixed no problem, and nothing has ever necessitated my taking it back for work. I even got 45K miles out of factory tires! Not bad. The rear wheels lose traction easily, as all trucks are wont to do.

Strength:

The 3.4 V6 engine is awesome! Plenty of power for passing... leaves S10 & Ranger in my dust! X-cab is a must.

Weakness:

Hub caps make a popping noise. I recommend the alloy wheels.

The best vehicle I've ever owned. I've owned owned Fords, Chevys, Hondas... Toyota is the best value for your investment.

My transmission on my Ranger started to "go" after only 75K miles. The guy @ the xmission shop said that was common.

Model Reviewed: Prerunner ex-cab V6

Strength:

The V6 in this truck rocks. Handles like a big truck. Extra cab gives more room for seat adjustment and luggage. Interior is quiet with no rattles. The guages are easy to read and have good placement. Best looking truck on the road in my opinion. Fun to drive.

Weakness:

The oil filter on the V6 is in the worst possible location. I hate to change my oil because you are always going to have it run down your arm. The bucket seats could be softer. Forget letting anyone of average size ride in the exrta cab for an extended period of time. The back seats are hard and uncomfortable. When I got the truck the allignment was out. Toyota needs to put antilock brakes standard on the rear tires at least. This is an option on the Tacoma and they are hard to find. You can hear the tires, but this is expected with such big tires. Also, don't expect a good smooth ride with this truck. Very bumpy like most small trucks.

This truck is very attractive looking and sporty. RELIABILITY is very important to me and we all know Toyotas track record. My wife has had a Camry for 3 years with no problems. My neibor, the Ford man, just put a new engine in his wifes Ford Mustang and it has 50K miles on it. Not me buddy. Back to the subject. This truck is a good buy as far a compact trucks go. My boss had a 1984 and he takes care of nothing. I changed the oil in it once, and it had half a quart of oil in it. It had 260k miles on it and was still going. That says something there. I got this truck fully loaded for 21,000.

Drove a 1994 reg-cab nissan 4-cylinder 5 speed. I put 65K miles on it without any major problems. It was noisy in the cab and engine was niosy(12 valves). Doesn't even compare the Toyota, but the Toyota cost much more so what do you expect. It was very bumpy also and danced on the road. Good truck though if you don't have the money to spend on the Toyota. My dad has had 3 Nissan trucks with no problems.

Strength:

everything in this truck really kicks butt. Great power out of the v6, no hill or mountain steep enough to slow me down. Automatic trans is smooth and so is the radio. those 4 6x9s and that cd player sound great. big tires, 4wheel drive on the fly, this truck is great.

Weakness:

well, there is some vibration when hitting the 55+ mph zone. there is also an annoying vibrating sound coming from the pass. side air bag. small area in the back, but it is still good enough. expernsive to insure

great truck, lots of goodies, will last forever. that is what toyota is known for. Great trucks that last forever and never break down. i would recommend the tacoma to anyone who has the money, you won't be disappointed.

Strength:

Very good driver view/position. Has a nice road feel(solid).Good audio system. Nice truck all around except for that damm loud auto trans on the( 2.4) 4 cyl.

Weakness:

The automatic transmission has a whineing sound even at low speeds before shifting to second gear. I noticed this in the 4 cilinders only. The auto trans V6 is very quiet. I wish I bought an auto V6. It's worth the extra money. Too late now.

Overall a nice truck but too pricey. The Toyota transmission engineers need to do some research on that low gear noise problem on the 4 cyl.

Model Reviewed: Toyota Tacoma 4X4 SR5

Strength:

Put some BFG All or Mud Terrain's, and just try to get this thing stuck! I couldn't. Really fast with simple aftermarket mods. 4X4 system works flawlessly. People complaining about ride quality should buy a car because this truck was made for off-roading, and it is the best newer model 4X4 I've ever driven.

Weakness:

Pretty crappy gas mileage, but then I drive like a bat out of hell. Vibration in passenger side of dashboard - like the airbag assembly is loose or something. Not that big of a deal, though.

This is the best vehicle I've ever driven. It's really fast on-road, and can go anywhere I want or even don't want off-road. The 4X4 system is flawless, and I've never had a problem with anything in this truck. I would advise against anybody using fancy aftermarket spark plugs, however. I tried the Bosch Platinum +4's and it killed my gas mileage. A K&N filtercharger kit has helped considerably, and I also love my 2 1/2" Flowmaster exhaust. Can't wait to try some headers, throttle body kit, computer upgrade, and maybe even the TRD Supercharger. A trip to www.gadgetonline.com/4Run.htm has scared me from the Supercharger, though. The guy on that site has tested his supercharger extensively and concluded that to get the thing to work correctly, you have to do $3000 in mods to your fuel delivery system AFTER you have already bought the supercharger! His main discovery is that the stock fuel system just can't keep up with the supercharger's demands, therefore causing your engine to run too lean. This raises exhaust temps to extremely high levels, burning through gaskets that should never even be touched with normal operating temperatures. So, if anyone has NOT had this problem (i.e., it supposedly cuts out at high RPM's due to lack of fuel) with their supercharger, or figured out a cheaper or better fix, let me know. Anyway, buy this truck, it's the best decision you'll ever make!

Hah! I've raced every one of the other mini trucks, and blown all of them away. And that's just on-road. I've also pulled many Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and Nissan's out as well.

Strength:

Great Power and Gas Millage. Haven't had a problem with it yet.

Weakness:

I didn't like the fact that once I tried to raise it on 30 inch tires, it was underpowered. After I took those tires off, it worked great again! Bad place for the oil filter, impossible to change oil without spilling everywhere!

I give it two thumbs up!

no warranty They charge for warranties, but their dealers won't honor them. They just keep your vehicle and give it back unrepaired

Good truck, but the Toyota dealers won't honor their warranties. They don't repair their vehicles even when under warranty to make you buy a new one. They win in court since you can't prove that they didn't fix the problem

Reliable, good gas mileage, powerful, fast and good styling.

Weakness:

Vibration at high speeds, brakes and small interior.

Overall, I really like this truck a whole lot and will remain a loyal Toyota owner. I just wish someone could give advice on how to get rid of the vibration or is it just a factory blemish. My wife drives a 1996 4-Runner and it is awesome.

Strength:

Good power. Great looking truck. Toyota parts guys gives me 20% off accessories.

Weakness:

Getting only 16 mpg. That means only 240 miles per tank.
Vibration while driving. Must change to better tires.
Somewhat cramp inside. Back seats only for kids.

Got my Prerunner used for under $15 in mint condition. First Truck I purchased (tried a lot for work). Looks like a hot wheels toy. Like it. Wait and see on the body metal. Seems a little thin. Motor runs smooth. I would purchase another again in a minute.

I know the list is over 20 but I gave it a high value rating because of the deal I got. If not, I would lower the rating.
