Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

Available in Regular cab, Double Cab and CrewMax styles, the Tundra also features three bed lengths, three engines, three wheelbases and a choice of 4X2 or 4X4 configurations.

The Tundra offers three engines and three cab sizes. Handling is relatively responsive, but the ride with the TRD package is stiff. The 5.7-liter V8 is very powerful. The tailgate is easy to raise and lower. A new 4.6-liter V8 replaced the old 4.7-liter for 2010.

Model Reviewed: Toyota Tundra 4x4 Limited

Strength:

Another great one from Toyota. This is the truck that America has been waiting for with superb ride, great handling, smooth power and acceleration all combined with Toyota's bullet proof reliability.

Weakness:

Hard to find. Strange cup holder mounted in the dash. Hard to find

If you are seriously looking for a full size truck and need the power of a V8 with the convience of the 4 door access cab then this is the truck for you. I know they are hard to find in 4x4 in most areas of the country especially in the Limited package but it is worth waiting for. Rides better than my wifes Intrigue and has smoother power than anything I have ever driven.
All the usual Toyota bells and whistles for around $400 a month. Can't beat a deal like that.

Model Reviewed: 4 x 4 V6 Tacoma

Strength:

Classic Toyota quality and engineering. They skimp where YOU will never notice it and put the money into the right places. This truck can tow, climb, and travel well. Typical.

Weakness:

Toyota is really proud of the truck, reflected in the pricing, but you will not regret it. My last Toy 4x4 went for 200,000 miles and was still tight, and yes, it had been offroad! Also, don't kid yourself, this is a TRUCK...low geared and ready to work. If you want a "car-like" truck, go see any American auto manufacturer...

In a class of its own...Great if you can afford it!

Strength:

build quality, smooth ride, cupholders, interior comfort and style, quietness, acceleration, braking, smooth engine, 4 door convenience, two-tier console.

Weakness:

paint seems to chip easily, a little too much body roll in turns, emergency brake pedal intrudes on leg room, doors don't stay open on inclines.

2wd SR5 V-8 access cab. $23,512. Cd/cassette, conv. pkg, bedliner, tow pkg, alloys, toyoguard, two tone paint.

This has to be the most satisfying truck I have driven. Styling has to grow on you, but I could never go back to one of the domestics. They're loud and crude in comparison. Braking and steering takes less effort, it seems more "in control" on the road. Really does drive like a sedan. It also hauls tail...and does it quietly. "Size" issues won't affect most personal users. I tow with it daily for work. It's PLENTY tough and powerful. Except for rear seat room(which is fine for short trips), it beats them all in every category. And I've owned them ALL. Very "refined" truck. Will be a favorite of upscale truck drivers. Finally, Tundra's 2wd versions look almost like 4wd in terms of ride height. Many 4x4 buyers pay extra for that "look". Chevy and Ford 2wd trucks look like "low-riders, the Tundra looks more balanced.

Strength:

Very Quiet, Bank-vault construction, great power, surprising fuel economy for a V8.

Weakness:

Column controls sometimes awkward.

I am very pleased so far. Great reserve power, very quiet interior with good build quality throught. Mine is brand new, but the highway mileage has been up to 19 mpg wiht less than 1,000 miles on the vehicle. Time will tell, ultimatley, but so far I have no real complaints.

Pickup Bed is two shallow

At $22,250 the Tundra is the most impressive vehicle I've ever owned. The most remarkable thing is that it does it at a price that's compeditive with GMC, Dodge, and Ford. If the Tundra can duplicate the reputation that other Toyota products have earned for dependability,... Ford, Dodge, and GMC will have to go back to the drawing boards and find ways of significantly improving their products. I know there is a lot of loyalty amonst truck owners but one test drive is enough to change your mind, it certainly did mine. If there's any criticism at all about this truck it would be that the pick-up bed isn't quite deep enough. The top of a five gallon can of paint for example extends above the side of the bed. If your listening Toyota, fix that and the Trucks perfect.

Hard to get a hold of one

I love everything about this truck. It was worth waiting for, considering that they are all spoken for when they hit the dealerships and are unavailable for a test drive. The truck is agressive looking and sits high on the 16" Dunlop GrandTrek tires which are great handlers. The engine has been powerfully quiet for the 7000 miles I have logged on it in two months. Epic out of state drives w/three adults are done comfort thanks to the trademark big comfy Toyota molded seats (unlike the Chevy seats that look half done). Passing other vehicles on the highway was done w/ease and confidence and the suspension handled the bumpy and curved roads excellently. My buddy drove it with me on an epic drive and told me that it drove much better than his 96' Landcruiser. Mileage ain't bad considering that mine is a 4.7L engine. It's in the same price range as the F-150 and the Dodge Ram and costs less than the Silverado, but it has the fastest engine of the four. This truck drives like a dream. See for yourself.

Strength:

Smooth, Fast, Comfortable, Handles well, did I mention fast, seems to be solid.

Weakness:

Almost too smooth, I wonder about the brakes a little. Steering is a little slow, but I'm coming from a sports car.

For the price, it seems to be a good value. Yes, all (other models) have their own strong points. Only time will tell. It almost puts you to sleep riding around town, but get on the gas and it will get your attention. This is my first truck, I've had sports cars, sedans, a Jeep - it was time to give it a try - and at that price - I couldn't get into a comparable Chevy or Ford less than 25000. I may sound biased, but it's new and my opinion may change - and by the way some of these reviews sound like obvious plants by someone.

Strength:

There is plenty to like about this truck. It is super quiet, the gas pedal is very responsive after 1000 rpms (you can feel 1st gear is a real stump pulling gear). I have towed 5000 pound backhoes on flatbed trailers, pulled heavy equipment up hills, towed 7000 pounds from San Diego to Dallas, and so on. I couldn't be more impressed with the engine and drivetrain power, sound and efficiency. You get a 3.91 gear ratio with 18 mpg! Not bad in my book. Good feel behind the wheel. Great daily driver.

Weakness:

The cabin floor could be deeper, back seats more angled, and the bed deeper as well. If the cabin dimensions were increased by three inches on all sides, and stretch the wheelbase by ten inches to gain more bed space and add more dashboard cavity, then the Tundra would be perfect. But alas, nothing is perfect. You have to see if the Tundra "fits" your physical size. I am only 5'10", so it fits fine for me.

The Tundra is a recreational/light duty work truck. It is the perfect truck for the home handyman. It is not a cattleman's truck. The Tundra is for those who want more power than a compact truck, but less size than a full size. It is a mid size truck that can do the work of any Ford, Dodge or Chevy half-ton, without the ugly Ford, Mopar and GM engine engineering. Open the hood and you'll see a better engineered engine in the Tundra. Don't buy the Tundra if you are in a "mine is bigger than yours" world. Listen to the moral of Marty Robbins' song "Mr. Shorty", from 1965. That 4.7 L engine in the Tundra is like that ol' bad 44.

Strength:

I like everthing about this truck. The power is phenominal! Quiet and very nimble. First new vehicle, and I did all the necessary homework. I tested the Dodge, and the Ford before the Tundra. The power, which is why I opted for the V8, sold me on it. Love the sound of the exhaust as well. Have the Limited w/o leather, but everything else. Dealership was great. WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE ALL AROUND!

Weakness:

Uhh-h-h-h...clock is not on the radio(that’s why I wear a watch). Brakes take a little getting use to.

I would recommend this, and have, to whomever I have had the pleasure of telling about it. I have a family of three, including myself, and this was
the perfect step up from the sedans we were used to. I have worked on cars alot, and I guess I'm just going to retire for a while thanks to my new Toyota!
