Strength:

loud, low and clean

Weakness:

none

i already submited a review a few months ago. I have 2 10" 8000's running on a mtx 500D at 2ohms. I went to 2 compititions this week and my spl was 133.6 off of just these 2 10"'s. They were the loudest 10"'s there and louder than most of the 12" pairs. If you have problems with these there is obviously something ghetto with the rest of your system.

Strength:

cool looking cone, cool frame structure & big magnet, rugged.

Weakness:

SENSITIVITY, kinda thin cone, expensive for sub w/ these specifications.

The sensitivity on these sube IS HORRIBLE, a good sub would be about 93dB, these are 85dB. anyone who says that these subs 'slam', shoud throw a kappa perfect in there trunk and realize that for another $50 they could get better quality and an immidiate 10 dB increase in sound (+3dB is the same as doubling your power, or addind another sub). so you could say that it would take almost 5 of the mtx's to make as much sound a 1 kappa perfect.

Strength:

It'll make you lose your hearing when they don't blow... The bass is deep but distorts when you turn them up.

Weakness:

I bought 2 12" 8000's from circuit city and put them in my 99 Alero for about month and I blew them with a MTX 500D. The subs can't handle power at all... I've gone through 5 pair already....

I paid about 250 a piece for them and they are definitely not worth the price I paid for them.... It's time for a change of subs...

they are supposed to be the top of the line sub but are all talk and not much action.

Strength:

I've got the 10" 8000. Holds 500 watts RMS. Hits hard and clean.

Weakness:

Woofer is larger than other 10's, had to enlarge the hole in my enclosure. Don't think any other sub will fit now. Has 12 screws holding it down istead of 8.

I compared the Autotek Mean Machine and the 8000 in the same Virtual Technology vented enclosure. The Autotek hid hard but bottomed out and popped with high volume and bass. I'm pushing the Fosgate 500a2 at a 4 0hm bridged mono load - it's a very strong amp, rated over 750 watts on birth certificate, and I beleive it. The 8000 hit harder, cleaner and tighter and couldn't be bottomed out and never popped. Awesome sub. And by the way, the VT box I'm using for this one sub hits harder than my previous two mtx 5000 tens in a sealed enclosure. The vented box is 1.9 cubic feet. If you've never heard of one of these boxes, you don't know what you're missing. The VT box for two tens is over 5 cubic feet and my local stereo shop has hit 146 db in SPL competitions with them. My box pounds the hardest at 50 Hz. But all other sub frequencies are reproduced very well also and rolloff is smooth. If you can sacrifice a little more trunk room, the VT box is the way to go, no doubt. I paid $189 for the sub.

Strength:

Exremely clean low bass. I haven't even pushed these yet and they already blur my vision and make it hard to breath. The only distortion i've heard comes from bad radio transmissions.

Weakness:

The loss of hearing.

I paid $199 a piece for 2 10"s. I had a custom box built for my single cab truck with a thunder 500d amp mounted in the center. These are high quality subs. I've never heard anything louder and cleaner. The 8000's are for anybody with the money that wants great sound quality or want to hit really high SPL's.

Similar Products Used:

MTX Thunder 5000 12". The 8000's hit harder, lower, and louder. Much cleaner bass. The 5000 handles the high end bass better, but for a sub thats not where its needed. The 8000 plays the low low end a hole lot better.

Strength:

KILLER bass and low-end extension

Weakness:

None

This is one KILLER sub for the price!! Not only does it look good, but that freakin' HUGE magnet really helps this sub pound out some SERIOUS low-end bass that has MINIMAL (if any) distortion. I've had a WIDE variety of subs (Soundstream SPL 12's, Kicker Comps and XPL's, Earthquake 12's, Pioneer 12's, JBL GT's) and this one has blown my mind. One twelve plays just as loud as my friend's pair of Alpine VR 12's - but it's CLEANER.

Model Reviewed: 2000 8154 subwoofer

Strength:

very powerful. I compared it to my friend's eclipse (2) 8800 series ten in subs, and their just a little bit louder, but much lower price. This sub alone was pushing about 130 dB in my Astro van

Weakness:

nothing yet.

Just one of these subs pounds, I'm using the new MTX 500D amplifier off of an Eclipse 55430 reciever with 5 volt pre amp outputs. I'm looking to add another 8154 sub to my car and upgrade the 500D to the 1000D whenever it is released on the market. The motor structure on this sub is huge, with a 102 ounce magnet. If you're looking to buy this sub, make sure you have at least 400 watts going into it. With such a massive motor structure, you'll need a lot of power to move it. I replaced this sub under warrenty for the 7154. I melted the voice coil from an electrical problem, not problems with this one though, it takes a huge load. The price for the 7154 was 250 out of the box, and the 8154 was free under warrenty. great way to upgrade.
If you're looking for something with great accuracy, with a hell of a lot of power, but you'll pay the extra for a larger amp (especially if you buy two) this sub is by far the best one to use. they made many improvements from the 7000 series. also try to get a box made of MDF, not particle board. The test model for the 8000s ripped out of a particle board box, and the prototype only had a screw holes, the final product has 12. That's pounding.
