Apex N1 Series Cat back Exhaust Systems

Apex N1 Series Cat back Exhaust Systems

DESCRIPTION

The N-1 exhaust pipes aim for the straightest possible line with the least number of pipe bends. This allows exhaust gases to pass smoothly through the piping. The exhaust system canister is made of a rugged SUS 304 Stainless steel and features a 115 mm tail. The canister projects from the car at an angle which also contributes to smooth flowing exhaust. Because all of the exhausts are straight through design, throttle response and horsepower levels are improved. The N-1 Series Exhaust is available for the Neon, Civic, Prelude, Integra, RX-7, Eclipse, 240 SX, Impreza, Supra, MR-2 and Golf GTi.

none so far

The BEST exhaust on the market! If you want people to look at you, this is the exhaust to get!

DC Sports and Stock - the DC is good, but this is more of a race exhaust than the DC, the DC is too weak for my taste

Strength:

It looks and sounds good and gave noticable power gains.

Weakness:

The muffler hangs a little low in the back.

I like the exhaust. For regulat driving it isn't too loud. If you floor it, it is deafening between about 3 and 5000 RPMs. Then it gets quieter toward redline. The sound is very deep. It doesn't get annoying.

Compared to stock it is great and in my opinion sounds better than most cars I hear driving around town. It is loud at times but that should be expected with a cat-back. Never annoying.

Strength:

Better looking than stock, 3 inch piping, deep tone but not too loud that it will give you a headache, and it's pretty rare (probably my car is pretty rare as well).

Weakness:

Loss of low end power

This is actually the second Apex-i N1 exhaust I've bought and I'm going on my third one for my 94' Integra LS (review will come later). The exhaust comes in one piece for the Nissan 240SX. It has 3 inch piping which will give you lots of high end power, but my low end suffered a little. It has alot of ground clearance unlike the Civic especially the hatchbacks! I highly recommend this exhaust because it looks a whole lot better than stock and will give you LOTS of HP!!! I've seen a dyno that read 15 HPs with simply adding this exhaust to your stock S14! Supposedly, the N1 duals give you more though. As far as looks, look at the other review for my 95' Civic EX Coupe (RIP) located third from the bottom.

Referring to my old review for my Civic, my exhaust got pulled out of my car when I hit one of those things that pop up to pop your tires if you back up into it, thingymajigs. This happened at the California/Mexican Border into Tijuana. I also had my car slammed about 2 1/2 inches so Civic owners, beware though it's a bad a$$ exhaust!

Other than this one, I've used an Apex-i for my old Civic and the Greddy Evolution. Compared to the Apex-i, the Greddy Evolution had power all throughout the powerband, but kind of topped off at the high end. In other words, the Evo was more streeteable. The N1 however, was LOUD, had all the power in the top end, and intimidated even the muscle car owners.

Strength:

Its very strong, i can tell its it pushes hard in the high rpm's looks good since i have two of them.

Weakness:

The noise inside the car is louder than the outside.

Well i bought my car for 300 and now its worth over 2000 by adding the exhaust i was able to release a lot of the back pressure and give it a more straight flow design. My friends love them and wish they could have one of them. If i could i would buy a larger barrel because it is kinda of small but since i have a small car and they both pop out the back, it totally gives it an after market effect and its Apex, best for Japanese cars right?

Strength:

noticable hp gains, easy installation, good looks, not as expensive as some of the other exhausts on the market with better performance.

Weakness:

can't hear radio but that will be gone soon anyway

Only had one problem with installation in the back by the fuel tank you need to install the exhaust on the second hanger closest to the passenger tire besides that I think it is a great purchase and recommend it to any one in the market for a new exhaust or plans on racing. If you plan on adding a turbo in the future make sure you get that model. With a turbo installed the exhaust sound does tone down a few decibels which is great if you plan on having a daily driver the loudness of an un-turboed vehicle can get annoying after a while.

Strength:

Noticable increase in HP when matched with a DC 4-2-1 header, look awesome, well made. Good sound @ 3000 RPM+

Weakness:

Expensive for just the muffler+tip, VERY loud!!!

I previously had the DC Sport catback, but didn't like the sound and it was a fairly weak exhaust. I replaced the muffler with the Apexi N1 and kept the original DC piping and added a DC header. The seat-of-the-pants dyno realised a definate increase in power, expecially off the line. It was also extremely loud, I would recommend purchasing the silencer for your sake and the sake of passersby. The sound will give you a headache after a while. All in all, I definately prefer the Apexi over the DC.

Strength:

LOOKS ARE DEFINENTLY A PLUS. THE FIT IS GREAT NOT TO LOW. THERE IS A LITTLE LAG AT THE LINE DUE TO LOSS OF BACK PRESSURE. THE TOP END THOUGH IS QUITE SUFFICIENT WITH MY VTEC INGAGED I CAN DEFINENTLY NOTICE A GAIN AT ABOUT 68 GRAND.

Weakness:

LET ME JUST SAY NOISE. DID I SAY NOISE..... WITH MY CAR I WANTED IT TO STAND OUT WHICH IT DOES A FINE JOB OF, BUT I DONT WANT IT TO SOUND LIKE THE SPACE SHUTTLE HAS JUST LIFTED OFF. INTO DETAIL, HIGH END SOUND IS FINE AROUND 45 GRAND, BUT BELOW THAT THE SOUND IS DROWNING. DOWN SHIFTING IS ANOTHER STORY, SOUNDS LIKE IM SITTING IN A BAND-PASS BOX WITH 2 15'S...

I MUST SAY IF YOU LIKE IT LOUD THIS ONE IS FOR YOU. AND AS FOR THE COPS THEY DONT EVEN NEED TO BE ON THE SAME BLOCK TO GIVE YOU A TICKET. THE COST FOR THE MUFFLER ITSELF WAS 220.00. I PLAN ON ORDERING THE SILENCER WHICH IS SAID TO GIVE A 7DBL. DECREASE WHICH WILL ALSO ADD SOME BACK PRESSURE WHICH SHOULD COMPENSATE FOR THE LOWEND LAG...

Model Reviewed: S13 240SX

Strength:

Defnitely high quality. The N1 catback system is actually built for the SR20DET powered Silvia and 180sx in Japan, but it just happens to give the USDM KA24DE a very large gain in power. It is somewhat deafening but you learn to live with it, I haven't noticed much low end loss and the piping on this one is 80mm. The high end is great for the 240 which has horrible high end from the factory thanks to the approx. 2" piping. Gains are multiplied for those with CAI, headers, and testpipe. It is a great system though all the welds are top notch.

Weakness:

I only have one real gripe about it, the piping comes to close to my differential and hits it. That does kind of upset me because I have a small ding in my exhaust now, but it's a part of the differential that can be grided down and I have to see if the VLSD diff. housing is different from the non VLSD diff. Apex'i designed this with the JDM silvia/180 in mine which all have the limited slip diff. so that may be my problem, soon I will have a vlsd.

Personally I would recommend any of the Fireball, N1, or NuR spec as they are all excellent systems with minimal restriction while retaining exhaust velocity for maximum scavenging and minimum torque loss (contrary to popular belief that backpressure makes people lose torque). Also being that this is designed for the SR the N1 is the perfect system for those going with the SR swap or turbocharging their KA, I will probably do SR being that the KA is just useless for turbocharging unless you want to see an engine blow up.

Similar Products Used:

Friends of mine in the 240SX CCA have gotten the greddy, various custom, and hks systems, 5Zigen Fireball, and blitz NuR spec. I have a dyno chart confirming the N1 makes 8 more HP than the HKS sport made, so take whatever gains HKS made and add around 8hp, this was mostly noticed in the 5k rpm range where the car needs it the most. The greddy fairs a little better than the hks and is a decent system, I personally dont like their products but if you want a quieter system I would go greddy but spend a significant amount more cash. The fireball is basically the same as the N1 but doesn't lose as much low end, but I didn't lose much either so big deal, and the silencer is free with it, also costs about 100 dollars more due to very low supply in US. Blitz NuR spec is almost the exact same and produces same results
