Awesome sound, Head turner

Weakness:

I was worried that the FlowMaster Original 40 Series mufflers were going to be too loud from what I had heard, but it is just right. I can still talk to the person next to me without yelling and am still able to hear that wonderful sound of the Flows. Now my stang sounds and feels like a real muscle car. I highly reccomend these mufflers. GO WITH THA FLOW

Strength:

GREAT TONE reduces underhood temp more power all around

Weakness:

none to comment on

I used a 3" super 40 to replace a performance exhaust on my pick up. It already had nice tone and good flow but now that i replaced that with a flowmaster and removed the catilitic converter ( wich had already been gutted) my truck sounds much better and i can definatly notice more performance, (thats with one dead cylinder) so far i have had several compliments and i love that tone. I wouldnt go with anything other than straight pipes. I mean now instead of dropping gears to pass cars i just leave it in fifth and it picks up great. sounds the best between 1500 and 2500 rpms and then after that all i can hear is my air intake

Weakness:

Price is a little steep......but with that quality, what else can you expect!

My truck is an 87 GMC 1 Ton farm truck. The truck is in real shape but with a 454 under the hood i had to hear those horses. I purchased the super 40's @ a local muffler shop and was well satisfied. I ran 2.5 in. pipes with 3.5 in. tips. The deep sound just catches everyones eyes and @ about 2500 RPM's and above the sound is awesome. I was also well satisfied with its sound @ a low RPM. They really make a motor that has been cammed sount that much better.

Strength:

Strong, welded construction. NASCAR kinda sound.

Weakness:

They wake my neighbors early in the morning (or is that a strength?).

I have driven my '76 Ventura w/ FM 40's for over 5 years, and still love them. Many people complain that the interior resonances are too high, although they do have an RPM range where they do resonate. The reason why many people complain about interior noise is due to thin wall thickness of their exhaust pipes. FM's flow very well w/ a scavanging effect, which leads to almost no back pressure. An exhaust system w/ back pressure causes a silencer effect, with little complaints about resonance. My exhaust system is true duals w/ 0.060" thick 2.25" pipes, and my interior is reasonably quiet. If I build another car someday, I buy them again. What I won't do is buy cheap pre-formed pipes at the parts store. If you can afford the weight of the stronger (quieter) pipes, get you exhaust pipes mandrel bent by a professional. I realize that 0.060" thick sidewall, Galvilume pipes are traditionally used for playground equipment, but they let the sound get out the back, not through the floorpan.

Model Reviewed: Toyota Tacoma Doublecab TRD V6

Strength:

Well built

Weakness:

Very loud inside and outside the vehicle

I went to Lordo and asked for a muffler to put dual tailpipes on my 2002 Toyota Tacoma Doublecab TRD V6 and they sold me the Flowmaster Delta 40 with a 2 1/4" inlet and dual 2 1/4" outlets. I wanted something a little louder than stock that would let my engine breath a little better. Well, it definately lets the engine breath but this muffler makes the most annoying drone inside the cab you've ever heard. Putting an exhaust on a small V6 can be tricky to get the sound you want I suppose, but the resonance inside the vehicle is downright annoying. Ouside it sounds throaty, but definately on the loud side. I wouldn't recommend this muffler to anyone with my truck that is on speaking terms with their neighbors or that likes to hear their stereo.

Strength:

Smooth, loud, and throaty powerful sounds, but quiet enough so you can hear the radio. An inexpensive part. Strong material, but is clamp-able. It's a flowmaster, made in the USofA.

Weakness:

Loud at times when you "give er' some", could get you unwanted attention. May irritate jealous girlfriends, cranky neighbors, hybrid drivers, and ears.

Well, actually don't own one yet, but it sounds like the 40 series is quite well. My review is on the reviews out there. You'll find that most people put thier 40's on their v8's and v6's vehicles. By the reviews the muffler idles quietly, and roars when the eninge reaches above 2,700 RPMs. This may give you giggles, and a noise violation from the man.

Model Reviewed: Acura Integra

Strength:

Sweet deep exhaust tone, not to loud, nice idle. Cheep considering its quality. It sounds more refined than any glasspack I have heard.

I went with flowmster becuase I was trying to avoid the loud, buzzy, ricer sound thats very common when changing your exhaust for an integra. After installing the muffler, I fired it up and I could stop smiling, it even deeper and more muscular sounding than I was expecting. Who ever said that flowmaster don't work with 4 cylinders is wrong, at least in this case. I have heard many diffrent exhaust on an integra, but so far this is my favorite. When driving it's pretty quiet at cruising but hit the gas and it gets serious. It is especially loud around 3k rpm and sounds sweet all the way up till the intake sets in. Another good thing about this muffler is its stealth apperance, I don't want a coffee can sticking out the back. You can easily buy a muffler tip to customize it, but I like the apperance right now. I have seen a slight increase in fuel economy. As for power, it is suprisingly good for just a muffler. You can start to feel the increase at 3k rpm. Most importantly it added mid range torque, something I have been looking for.
