Weakness:

The entire system, the company, the quality, customer service, sans the new customer service manager agreeing to waive the inspection fee..

This is an update.Called ATI and explained what happened. They agreed to waive the inspection fee but I just decided to trash the blower.ATI kept telling me that I have had it for 2 years and there is no warranty even though there is no more than 500 street driven miles on it.I did not expect for them to fix it free of charge but they know of all the problems I have had and all the money I have spent on their product,I did expect a considerable discount for the repair but they kept saying that it is two years old.OK lets say that I did drive the car everyday for 2 years,That tells me the reliablity of their product doesn't stand up to the advertising of a quality item.Remember,I NEVER got into boost until the dyno and thats when it totally fell apart.I knew if I were to send it back they would tell me that I would need another head unit.again you are looking at another 1500-1900 dollars.I have had it with these procrappers.I have invested in a large sum of money all for nothing. My car has been down and 80% of the cause is the supercharger.I just cannot justify investing $1500-$1900 every time these things break down. Also when I received the unit it did not look new by any means,I called ATI and they told me that it looked that way because they put it on their test engine and run them.I sent the blower to a company to check it out and see if they could repair it,When I told them that it only had app 500 miles on it they said it looked like a heavly used blower.Oh I did forget to report another failure on the first post, after driving for around a little over 300 miles, the impeller spun on the shaft!.I came to a stop and heard a grinding,I cut the belt and drove on.I knew ATI would not sell me an impeller so I had to use cylinderical type locktight, this held perfectly,it did not come loose when the supercharger crashed.AIRCRAFT TOLERANCES ??? My !@#%$.

Poor quality Poor manual Poor engineering Poor customer service

Poor engineering, hokey fuel management, no timing retard at all, manual that is wrong in too many places to count, and less-than-educated tech service....i had my kit professionally installed, and professionally tuned, and it still won't work in the higher RPM's without detonation....that crappy FMU and fuel pump are adding as much fuel as they can, and it still detonates....ATI provided no timing retard solution for this kit....my #6 spark plug closed on me, and re-tuning could not stop the detonation....ATI offers no solutions....i don't even think they engineered this thing, because they sure don't seem to understand why it doesn't work properly.....please save yourself the trouble that i've had, and DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP!!!!

Strength:

Maybe I’m lucky. 3 years, Thousands of miles, and hundreds of hole shots later, no problems with the blower. And this is with 12 lbs of boost; I built this motor for boost so maybe that is why I can feel a tremendous increase in power.

Weakness:

The Company.

Received blower, D1b. This is for a 1967 Chevy Caprice Big Block. W carburetor, PS, A/C. ATI sent small block directions, Twice. ATI said, just bolt it in. Before doing so. cut the fender well to fit blower. Throw away ATI p/w steering bracket make your own. The AC and ALT use a V belt. "Carry many spare belts and tools" or change to a serpentine belt. ATI doesn’t offer this. Make your own set up. Switch to EFI. Blow threw and carburetors DO NOT WORK.

Weakness:

it was apperently installedincorrectly (vent routing) and cost me the top end of my engine, maybe more plus way too many Dynos (25?)

Blew my rings at 50 miles. ATI will not offer any help other than put me speaker phone with all the Managers in the room saying if the blower blows air it's a good kit. (Except my kit came with stand along FMU, FMIC and CAI, none covered under warranty just the blower.)

In my opinion, there is a 30 HP gain. You can't notice the difference. That 100 to 150 HP gain is a bunch of BS. To actually achieve 150+ HP gains, you'd have to get 14 PSI or more - which requires expensive internal engine work which can cost as much as $11,000+.

Weakness:

No power. From my experience, if you want power for your car, go with an engine block - or something that's all-motor. Aftermarket superchargers are over-rated. The only reliable supercharged cars are those that are endorsed and tested by the car manufacturers - ex. Mercedes S55 AMG, etc.

My expectations of the supercharger was big - claims of 40 to 50% HP gains. I was extremely disappointed. I had 5 psi boost. The car feels almost like stock. There is no power gains. I was racing with the Lexus IS 300 and I couldn't smoke him the way I wanted.

ati basically is a company that MUST BE AVOIDED!!!!! i spent 3000 dollars for a blower system for my camaro. for some reason the bracket that the supercharger mounts on would not fit on to my big block chevy. after numerous calls,,,it turns out that ati had a run of bad brackets when the jig at their shop got off. i got a bad bracket,,,their reponse to me,,,,"just mill it out" they refused to send me the correct bracket....it still doesn't work right to this day. the company and the people working there suck when it comes to backing their product. buy a whipple,,,the top name in centrifugal superchargers...ati doesn't have a clue.

Strength:

Pulls strong through the whole RPM range. Boost builds up after 3200. This is when a real strong pull is noticed. Oil is self contained in the head unit.

Weakness:

Constantly have to check for leaks in the intercooler pipe hoses. I blew off a vacuum line fron the air idle control. The oil cooler line has to be relocated or just removed.(cobra models) Also All of my pulleys except for steering had to be replaced with GT pulleys.(Cobras come stock with underdrive pulleys)The instructions only say to replace the crankshaft pulley but it's impossible.

I bought the basic 9# 2-core intercooled P-1SC kit. The kit had the wrong MAF hook up. I needed mine to be flanged so I ordered a new one from ATI for $37.00. It makes about 7-8 psi at the manifold. I ran 13.6 at the 1/4 track but could not hook up until 3000 rpms in 3rd gear. The blower was installed 100% by the instruction manual and I have one or two problems. I blow smoke from a valve cover and my oil dipstick tube. I also have to relocate my oil cooler because the belt rides on the cooler line. It needs a little attention but things will buff out. I added a MSD ignition coil, distributor, 6AL-BTM, and gapped the sparkplugs from .054 to .035. The timing had to be advanced to 13 degrees.

Powerful unit : Intercooler works great. Easy to install I

Weakness:

Mounting system useless without modification. Horrendously noisy. This thing grinds like it’s going to come apart. ATI shows little concern for customer after the sale. n

The D1B Blower Unit itself combined with an intercooler is the best on the market for producing power, but the mounting kit is a piece of crap. It will probably cost you twice the price by the time you get it to work. I’ve got over a grand in modifications so far and it’s still not right. Mounting Plate is week and bows under torque. The 2 long mounting Bolts tweak an flex in every direction. You need to go to a cog belt setup to get consistent boost and you will still chew up very expensive belts . ATI is aware of the problem but refuses to redesign the mounting system. They say you can change to solid motor mounts and then fabricate some bracketing to the frame. To me, this is not an option. Don’t expect any customer service or warranty recognition after the sale. After a year, I had to pay over $300 to have oil seals replaced that were leaking from day one. ?
