Strength:

None.

Weakness:

Everyhting.

I had Farmers Auto Insurance for over 10 years and had experienced nothing but torture when having to deal with the company for the simplist issues. It started off great, but the last 4 years had progressively gotten worse. I was able to easily convince my boss (just by telling my experiences with Farmers) that our company-issued cars needed to be insured by a different provider! I make sure to let everyone I know to not waste their time with Farmers. In fact I go out of my way to do so at times. I just don't want anyone to get stuck with such a horrible company.

Fair warning to all! Farmer's is just about the worst, inudstry-wide. If you think that you've got a friend, think again. I've carried mutiple policies with Farmer's (Renter's, four cars, and two sailboats.) Believe me when I tell you that once you're on the side of needing a frieind when the s*%^$ hits the fan, you'll be out in the cold. I'm 36, spotless driver's record when I was driving home from work one day in September, 2001 and struck by a red-light runner. Straightforward right? Both of us were transported via EMS to the hospital and I discovered that we were both insured by Farmer's. Now I would have thought that this would have been as straightforward a claim as one can get. The driver admitted fault, witnesses confirmed her failure to yield and one look at her car and mine said, "Wow, that's one bad accident." Here's the kicker. Farmer's refused to total my car, even though the valuation was only $13,000. The adjuster purposely lowered the mileage in order to artificially raise the car's value. The mileage was 105K, he put down 60K, raising the supposed value by $2,500. This was pointed out to Farmers and they said so what? Fix it anyway. SO, $11,500.00 later I got my car back from the shop, brought it back 3 times for more work and sold it for a loss of over $5,000. And you know what Farmer's offered me in compensation? $500.00. That's it. To boot, my rates have increased by over 60% in the aftermath with no viable and beleiveable explanation from the agent. Farmer's is a joke, folks. When I bumped into a another boat in the midst of a full-on gale last year, the owner and I exchanged information and again, both of us were insured by Farmer's. I was at fault and we agreed that the damage was limited to a small 2x3 inch patch of gelcoat that had been chipped on his stern. At the same time we both thanked our luck and fate that either of us had made it back to the marina unscathed. So guess what? The guy files a claim 9 months later, saying that the damage I caused was well over $6,000 and that I had caused irrepairable damage to the FRONT of his boat (the stern is the BACK). And Farmers paid him... they wouldn't even accept an affadavit from me to contest that he was lying, to listen to the evidence. They just paid him. He even later admitted that some of the damage wasn't related so they lowered the payout by a couple of hundred. F

A Farmer''s client rear ended my brother''s vehicle off the shoulder of 101. My twin brother is disfigured and cripled as a result. The farmer''s agent was nasty and absolutely refused to give aproval numbers to help pay for surgury to save my brother''s leg. Farmer''s insurance is evil.

My agent didn''t give me the right prices on insurance, also didn''t tell me that a small claim, ($275) would raise my insurance 10%. at that time I had 4 cars insured with him, and it cost quite a bit extra.

Strength:

Absolutely none I''m warning you if you are insurance shopping, stay as far away as possible. However, if you cause an accident with someone who has Farmers, be happy, you will recieve a very large settlement even if it is proven to be your fault.

Weakness:

Not enough room to list them all

I am a female driver under 21. When I read the review by Marty from Concord, I could have written the review myself. It''s true. Farmers does pay claims without even investigating accidents. I was involved in an accident a few years ago where it was not my fault by any stretch of the imagination. The guy who caused the accident made a claim on Farmers, and they paid. This young man had been ticketed, had contested the ticket, and had lost. My Dad hired an engineer to further prove that the accident was not my fault, and Farmers said they didn''t use engineers. Six monthes ago I was involved in another accident which WAS NOT MY FAULT. I was ticketed, but the officer did not investigate the situation. I contested the ticket and it was dropped immediately. Even the judge agreed that the accident could not be my fault. I called the adjuster every week to see where this was going. He refused to call me back and gave me the run around for 2 months. When I finally got ahold of this man, he told me he had hired an engineer who had decided that I was at fault. But I thought Farmers didn''t use engineers. He was very rude and unprofessional with me, even yelling at me at one point. You bet I talked to his supervisor, who was also nearly impossible to get ahold of, but the guy didn''t really listen to me. Like, "silly little girl, what do you know?" This was seriously the attitude I was met with. Several times I was lied to, had to beg to get anything in writing, and was treated very rudely. Farmers employs many rude, unprofessional, and incompetent people, and I cannot stand doing business with them. For Christ sake they can''t even spell my name right when they finally do contact me! The only reason I still do buisness with them is becuase I have to be under my parents umbrella to get a halfway decent rate, now that they have put two accidents down as my fault, even though neither was. But you can bet that as soon as these accidents are off my record, I will be as far the hell away from these people as I can possibly get.

Quick to send you bills and very good at increasing rates on everything, house, car, etc..

Weakness:

The agents and their office assistants are dumber than dirt (or they pretented to be, who knows ..) Same goes for the regional office. If you hear that you are being referred to them, run ! Don''t just walk !!

After reading all the reviews on all insurance companies, realized these guys are all crooks who are just out for your wallet. These guys need to be regulate and STOP !! To make it short, it came down to a hit-and-run accident of my fatther-in-law''s car while it was parked in the driveway. So, a simple case of hit-and-run right ? Wrong! Reported the accident to the office, got claim #, called a week later and was told got an adjuster will come out. Five days later, the guy came out & he was just a bungling idiot. Look at out claim # and policy and just left saying we got no coverage ?!? Called the agent, and was told by his "ass-istant" that he doesn''t come to the office anymore (huh ?) & there is "nothing we can do". Need to call regional office. Called there & was told the adjuster left on sick leave (too much drinking I think from what I''ve seen of this guy) and my case will be reassign. Numerous follow up calls in the next two weeks to this office finally resulted an actual adjuster calling me back asking me to take my car to a body shop for estimate. This is after 4 freaking weeks for damages that turned out only to be less than $1000. One more thing, a new bill came soon after that with %20 increase on the premium.

- overpriced and poor customer service

These people can kiss my ass.

I have been with them for 19 years and have always paid my premiums. I have filed two claims in this whole time period for extremely minor amounts of money (my lousy $100 car stereo got ripped off two times about 12 years ago).

I recently moved to Los Angeles and contacted the nearest Farmers office to update my auto insurance. The agent at this office has no clue as to what is going on in the insurance world (or any other world for that matter). I guess it probably isn't her fault that she is stupid. also, she constantly complained about the ineptness of the main office, which gave me a not-so-good feeling.

I paid them around $500 bucks for 6 months of basic auto insurance (I had to write them about 3 different checks at 3 different times because they couldn't seem to figure out how much I actually owed them (it kept getting higher). This amount for 6 mo's was alot higher than I was paying with them before, but I figured it was because i live in L.A.

Anyway, a month after writing my last check to them, I get a CANCELLATION notice and another bill for $80 from them. They claim I do not fit within their eligibility rules.

My driving record, claim filing and bill paying record is SPOTLESS, I am talking about twenty years worth. I can't figure out why they did this to me.

I don't care, I found much cheaper insurance on the internet. F&*% these people.

Strength:

Satisfying customer service

Weakness:

Expensive

Some agents in LA are very nice. When I had a total loss accident, I got full payment for the car and the auto-rental in a month. I paid $3600 annually for under 21 full coverage in 1997, which I think was very expensive. The year after, it went down to $3000, which I think was pretty impressive back then. Overall, I'm very satisfied for what I paid. At least, in Los Angeles there are still some nice agents working right now.
