they think they're word is law and it's not. I was involved in a car accident,in which the other driver has a Farmer's policy. It was her fault, but I am getting the short end of the stick. My vehicle was totaled. They have refused to negotiate and have forced my hand. I am retaining the services of a lawyer and intend on suing the policy holder as well. One of the first things I hear from people who know I am dealing with Farmer's is "oh, no, not farmer's they're the worst to deal with". I've heard it over and over. So, if you are a policy holder beware, you may be getting sued as well, because the company you hired is trying to screw someone, and is not being fair. Beware and be prepared. They fight dirty and now they're making me fight dirty too. I am not afraid of them, and I will stand up for what I think is right. |

They lie
Weakness:
They still have to pony-up, if you know how to make them tow-the-line. HOW TO MAKE FARMER'S COMPLY Farmer's Insurance is notorious for under valuating damage to your vehicle. They are amongst (if not 'the') worst. Mercury is about the same. In order to get them to treat you fairly, you will most likely have litigate. Unless of course, you take the steps that I will now outline for you, and let them know at some point what you intend to do if you are not satisfied. WARNING: Do this only AFTER you have your rental vehicle! CAVEAT: This procedure assumes (and will only work if) you are not at fault in the accident. (i.e., youv'e been rear-ended or some such similar situation) 1. The first claims adjuster you talk to will be very nice. After that you will encounter increasing level's of difficulty. You may even be bounced (especially in injury cases) to several different adjusters. Each one will lose the documentation and ask you to send and to re-send all of your documentation before they can make a determination on your claim. Send them the information and keep a tab of the costs. You can re-claim the duplicate postal charges. DO NOT PARTICIPATE in a debate with your adjuster. Even if you feel that they are telling lies, or misrepresenting (which they probably will) the damage to your vehicle. Just be pleasant and refuse to disagree or argue with them. It may be difficult, but just listen and take notes. Copious notes. 2. When you get your rental car, make sure it is a "direct-bill" to Farmer's Insurance. Once you have made (your portion of) the deposit (usually $250) to cover an accident and/or optional liability (a good idea that is often and wrongly discouraged), cancel your credit card and have a new one issued, so that no more charges can be put on that card. One of the things adjusters at Farmer's like to do when they are in a vindictive mood, is to call the car rental agency and have them change the direct bill (to Farmer's) having YOU charged instead, promising to "reimburse you" when they settle the claim. The car rental agency will immediatley bill your credit card. Unless (of course) they can't because you've cancelled it. WARNING: They do this WITHOUT NOTIFYING YOU!!! Farmer's does this when they suspect you will demand a fair valuation of the damage to your vehicle. It is meant to punish you by making you wait to get reimbursed until you go to court to settle the claim. If you do not do what I have just said, you will likely lose money. Or at the very least, have it tied-up for a year or more. 3. Have your car repaired and do not worry about what it costs. Also, keep the rental car and do not worry about the rental agency's note from Farmer's to change the billing. Ignore them. But only if you've cancelled your credit card. 4. Contact Farmer's client (i.e., the person who hit you) and explain to them what will happen to them if you end-up suing Farmer's to have your claim valued correctly. Inform them that they are legaly responsible for the accident and not Farmer's Ins.. You will not be suing Farmer's Insurance, you will be suing them. "They" will have to come to court. The insurance agent may tell them that they will be there to represent them, but that is not really true. There is no "representation" in small claims court and they will be alone. If/when you litigate (i.e., go to small claims court) and win, the judgement will appear as a "Bad Credit Item" on thier credit report for the next 7-years. One they will have to explain over and over again. Then suggeset that they call Farmer's and persuade them to act honorably. If they don't, then sue. If the person has a company car and the insurance is a fleet account for Farmer's, this works even better. Notify everyone you can in the company where their client works, of the results of the judgement. Send them a copy of it even. Let them know that Farmer's Insurance, "hang's their clients out to dry" and let's their credit get ruined, when it comes to trying to save a few bucks by denying legitimate claims. See how fast that company cancels the account with Farmer's Insurance. And well they should. Farmer's is a terrible insurance fraudpany. horrific customer service. extreme delays in service. highest rates I have ever seen. unability to understand the concept of a dollar and the effects a crash has on a vehicle. the sheer disregard for the effects on the lives of the customers that they are stealing money from, did I say stealing, yes... this company should be tried in a court of law for theft and deceptive pratices. Ok...first off I do not know where to start.... Farmers Insurance has been my own personal hell for me. I was involved in an accident where I had two choices, one..hit the car commming at me, or two..take avasive actions and prevent a two car pile up and sacrifice my own car. I chose the the later of the two... but did Farmers see it that way... NOOO... They would not come out and say it was my fault, but they sure did not care to hear my side of the story. well with that aside, my car was pretty much totalled, but the guy who came out to look at my car took litteraly ten seconds to look at it and say there was 6500 dollars worth of damamge, let me tell you...they were soo far off hellen keller could have made a better estimate. there was over 16000 dollars worth of damage.. hmmmm... small oversight...right..... well as of now it has been over a week and the inspector still has not come back to the body shop to look at what I damn well know he knows will be a totaled car. can't wait to see the offer that they will give me for the car. I am a police officer and in my experience with insurance companies, farmers is by far the worse company I have ever dealt with... my advice to anyone with farmers or who is looking into farmers.... RUN!!!!!! RUN VERY VERY FAR AWAY!!!!! oh and if you have access to lawyers like I do with the FOP, use them for everything you can. can you tell I'm a little bitter with this experience? Great agend and professional claims service.
Weakness:
Don't offer free insurance! I have been insured with Farmers Insurance since 1968. My agent has always taken care of my business in a very professional manner. I know that I can probably find less expensive rates elsewhere but would be hard pressed to find a better company. I have had several claims through the years and all have been handled with excellence. I wonder what the real story is with the bad reviews I have read? Similar Products Used: None |

Weakness:
1. Bad Customer Service 2. Do not care about loyal customers 3. Hand you off to an 800 number 4. Do not return calls I am very disappointed...actually disgusted with the way that Farmers Insurance runs it services. Farmers is great until you get into an accident, then you see their true colors and how much they actually "care" about you. I was involved in a minor collision which was not my fault. I called my agent, and was told to call an 800 number to submit my claim. They in-turn told me to call the other driver's insurance since they were missing information...this was my first accident I was ever in in my 17 years of driving, so I thought this was the norm. Apparently not, I was doing the work of what Farmers should have been doing, calling the other driver's insurance and getting more information, and then calling Farmers back with it. Isn't this what we pay Farmers for!!! I had to continuously call Farmer's claims rep and adjuster, they had problems returning my calls. In the end I had to pay $200 out of my own pocket for an accident that was not my fault, due to misinformation that a Farmer's claim rep provided me. Speaking to friends who also have Farmers, they have also run into similiar problems. Farmers is great until you get into an accident. Farmers hands you off to an 800 number, Farmers does not return calls, and when you contact your agent to complain, they try to transfer you back to the 800 nummber! You basically have to raise hell in order to get your agent involved, something that should not be necessary. With the premiums that we pay, they should have a better system and provide better service. By the way, these were just minor fender-benders, imagine if these were serious accidents....I would rather switch providers before I have to find this out! By the way, referring to the previous review, as a 15 year customer of Farmers, the only time I spoke to my agent was when I had to insure another automobile, and they were very friendly and were very diligent in returning my calls. I will let you decide on where Farmer's priority is at. Similar Products Used: . |

Great Agents!!!! They CARE! They are not a 1-800 or .COM (THEY ARE REAL PEOPLE!) My agent arranged for a rental car within hours of an accident.
Weakness:
Farmers shouldn't worry about other companies compeating! They are NUMBER 1 in my book. Other companies will learn that cheap rates doesn't mean you get decent insurance. A GOOD RATE ISN'T EVERYTHING, QUALITY SHOWS and I WILL PAY FOR QUALITY!!! I have had several insurance companies over the years and I have realized one thing! Low-cost insurance is just that low cost, you don't get anything out of it. I would rather pay a little more and know I am covered. Farmers Insurance has premiums that are in the mid-range and I feel that I am getting a better coverage(I AM PAYING NOT LESS MONEY)Farmers Offers better service and better educated agents than any other company. I have been with State Farm, Alstate, adn Liberty. I also have realized that companies such as Gieco, Progressive, and other 1800 insurance companies DO NOT offer the service I expect from an insurance company. They offer service by a reading off a card infront of thier computer, the people on the other end of the phone have no formal insurance educaution. I have talked to my Farmers agent and she acually had to go through classes and training to be able to know what she is talking about. I believe that I am better off with an educated agent vs. a 1-800 number's answering service. This is just my beleif but every 1-800 I ask who will personally help me when I need something, they say it will take 24-48 hours to have someone contact me. My agent is around 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and she has pull with her company. She can get things done! I might be paying more, but I feel better than having to go through an answering service. Also my agent meets with me once a year to make sure that I am still covered against any problems because my needs change. Similar Products Used: State Farm, Alstate, Progressive, Gieco, Liberty. |

They have lots of money to wait out anyone who may have a legitimate law suit or complaint with them.
Weakness:
They commit fraud and violate trade practices in their business dealings. Whether you are insured by Farmers or have been the victim of an insurance claim where Farmers is involved - BE WARE of their stalling tactics and watch out for their onslaught of verbal and written abuse. I was the third car in a rear-end 10-29-01 Insured by Farmers Insurance was at fault and totaled her car, the car she hit and caused over $3400 in damage to my pickup. The car behind me was hit so hard that it was driven into the back of my pickup tearing the spare tire loose which wound up underneath the front of that car. I tried for ove 8 months to get Farmers Insurance to respond to my personal injury claim. They ignored me. I felt it necessary then to hire an attorney. Even at that Farmers tried to push past the statute of limitations and forced us to file a law suit. Farmers attempted to schedule my deposition of Christmas day 2003 - plus they have caused more pain and suffering through their mental and verbal assault. This company needs to be brought to their knees. They are way too powerful and attempt to cause problems for their own insured. If I were there insured and the tables were turned - I definitely would not have them represent me - but I would hire my own attorney as Farmers staff their own in-house attorneys. They shouldn't represent both the insurance company and the insured - it is a direct conflict of interest. PLenty I was hit at a stoplight by a 16 year old covered by farmers on veterans day this year. I initiated all dialogue with this company and have recieved a few call backs.I am in illinois and though they have a claims office within 2 miles of my house they want me to send them my car keys and title plus letters of power of attorney to them in oklahoma city before they can send a check they low balled for the price of my vehicle they say is totaled. I,m still driving the vehicle as it has no problems driving, the drivers door was damaged and has no effect on performance. The policy holder was ticketed for too fast for conditions as I was just sitting waiting for a light to change when his car hit me.But it seems that I am being penalized by their company because I was on the road that day.Situation is still not resolved and probably won't be without a large investment of my time and money.I too say if you are in an accident with someone covered by this company and you are not at fault get an attorney right away,it may do some good.I know I need one.NOW Similar Products Used: American Family-paid damages within 2 weeks after accident,in state. |

lying, cutting coverage to keep competitive rates and not tell clients they did, and FREUD!
Weakness:
Honesty, integrety, genuine care for clients and keeping business. Farmers refused to pay for replacement value of my car after it was totaled in an accident that was not my fault. In the accident there were many discrepencies, from a revision of my policy to confusion at many offices as to weather or not I even had a policy with them. In the end I had to cough up $2,800 for an accident that was not my fault. When I asked my insurance agent Stan, why he didnt infrom me of limitations on my policy he said "Melissa just I sell the policies, that dosn't mean I understand them." I believe that Farmers Insurance should be held accountable for thier dishonesty. They also raise rates almost double to make up for near bankruptcy issues and lie to say that "your car has had a change in safty rating" or any other bull they can think of, to keep business. |

I don't feel that they are honest My 1996 Yamaha Motorcycle was hit in the parkinglot of our apartment complex one evening. Allstate told me that there was about $1900 in damage to the bike, but because there had been minor rust on the damaged parts they told me that they were going to pro-rate my claim. I should have recieved a check for $1900 including the cost of a tow and the estimate. I recived a check for $1500. I was not happy, but can't afford to take them to court.
