This company is definitely not working for the customer, especially since I saved a small pittance by changing from my former insurance company. This company will deduct for every little ding, dent, scratch, discoloration, to lower the amount they have to re-imburse their customers. They also are not much cheaper than any other insurance company. This is a review of Progressive Auto Insurance. I have used this insurance company for approximately 3 to 4 years. I have always paid 6 months at a time and faithfully. I have never had a claim against this car. The car was in very good shape (no major damage, a few scrathes, a couple small dings from hail damage hardly visible), new tires, brakes, rotors, regular maintainance. I was rear-ended this past weekend (6/18/05), so I called the insurance company at the scene. They sent an adjuster out Today (Monday) and they said the vehicle was only wirth $1100 after they took into account what they called "major hail damage, a dent in the door (caused by the accident) lots of scratches and a low NADA value. I am having to pay my deductible because the other driver did not have insurance. Similar Products Used: Farmers Insurance group, Farm Sate. |

Quick apprasial Quick payment No hassle about repair shop to use Provided rental while car in shop
Weakness:
None Most of the Progressive reviews are negative but I had a good experience with the company. Their insured did $700 damage to my vehicle while parked at Target. Within one week a Progressive check for the damage was in my hands. When I took the vehicle to the shop, Progressive authorized an Enterprise rental for my use - at no cost to me. Location: Houston Texas. Similar Products Used: State Farm (a disaster) |

Be careful if you are invovled in an accident while the other party has Progressive. I was hit by another party on the side while traveling on a Hwy. She pulled across three traffic lanes from a parking lot and hit me on my side. It took Progressive two weeks before concluding that they are fully responsible. Then they said my car is a total loss. Gave me $1800 estimate. I went to local car dealer and got a written estimate of $3500-3900. Progrssive refuse to take any third-party estimate other than their own. It is completely a waste of time talking to them. When you were hit by Progressive customer, either go directly to court or swallow their check with a huge grain of salt. Now I know why they claim their rates are low. |

Customer Service Prices I had Progressive Insurance for almost a year. Then suddenly they skipped a month on my payment and then had it scheduled for double payment the month after...I didn't think too much of it because they were still getting the payment, just maybe two months at time (is what I thought). I started price checking around to see if there was anything cheaper (which let me tell you...THERE IS!!). I found one that I loved and my fiancee could get on for very cheap as well. So I called Progressive to see when I could cancel. They told me that my insurance had been cancelled because my license was suspended. So I promptly called the DMV and they said that nothing was wrong with my license!!! I called Progressive and they wanted me to pay $8 to have them call the DMV to check on my license. I would not pay to have them fix THIER mistake!!!! So I talked with a lady at customer service at Progressive and she was VERY rude. I wasa put on hold for 35 minutes total (once for 15 minutes then two other times for 10 minutes at a time) and the whole call took an hour and 10 minutes. The lady accused me of lying, saying that they had sent out a letter (which I told her I did not receive) and she said that I got it and threw it out! I promised her that I had not received a letter and maybe they should call when something as serious as cancelling a policy is at hand. I asked her several times if she could call the DMV and get this matter straightened out and finally on probably the 8th time she listened to me. I was 3 wayed into the call she placed to the DMV and heard them tell her that there is nothing wrong with my license and there never has been. After hanging up with the DMV, I asked her why this type of mistake had been made and why I had to go to such great lengths to get this matter taken care of. She said to me, and I quote, "It doesn't matter does it?! It's taken care of now!" It was said with such disrespect. I do believe that I have the right and obligation to make sure this doesn't happen again. When I asked her for her name, she said "I already told you when you first called. Why do you need it." I said that I would like to please have her name and would like to speak to a manager. She said that no manager was available at all today and that I could call back at a later date if I needed to speak to a manager. Then she said "Have a nice day" and hung up!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe the utter disrespect of that woman!!! I called the other insurance that I was going to sign on with immediately and signed on with them and cancelled my policy with Progressive. I warn you...DO NOT GO WITH THEM!!!!!!! THEY HAVE HORRIBLE CONTACT METHODS AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Similar Products Used: Allstate |

No sense of fairness Deceptful Dishonest Mean and harrassing demeanor Beware of being in an accident with someone that has Progressive insurance. I was rearended while at a red light by a person with Progressive insurance. They had a person come and estimate the damage to the vehicle. Their estimate was about half of what other third party estimator's were. Secondly, I suffered a lower back injury. The doctor's bill for the injury was $2887.00. I asked for Progressive to pick up this bill. They refused. All in all, the cost for the medical bills (not including lost time at work) and the car repairs totaled close to $4000.00. After six months of negotiation, Progressive would offer no more than $1,800.00 to settle the claim leaving me with the rest of $2,200.00. If you are hit by someone by Progressive, IMMEDIATELY seek legal council. These people are crooks intent on collecting premiums while at the same time not paying claims. Similar Products Used: State Farm I have used State Farm for 24 years due to the fact that they treat their clients fairly. I highly recommend them even though they are not the most cost competitive. You get what you pay for in auto insurance. |

Not bad. I had to make a claim near the end of my policy for $7,500. I knew I was going to get hit up the next time, but my quote came in at $1200! This was $400 more than my first quote. The service was great; got to choose my repair shop, and no problems with the claims, but I'm dropping them now for a lower rate... |

Lying to customer, high insurance rates, fraud. I have been with progressive for almost 5 years with ONE $300 claim. In November, I got in an accident almost totalling my. I called in the claim to progressive and they have now mysteriously "lost" my last payment. They are refusing to cover any of the accident. They claim that I was never even on their website. Even after they were showed proof that I was, they still say that I wasn't. |

everything. I am a new driver, age 18, female, all that jazz. I didn't have prior insurance for about a month, I received an insurance verification in the mail. So I shopped around for some quotes. Progressive caught my eye with the 6-month premium of $600 something. So I called them...I understand that I am a youthful driver on my own policy, but good lord! I pay $255.70 every month, and my downpayment was $424.50, and my 6-month premium is $1,698.00. I was desperate for car insurance, I didn't want to have to file an SR-22. I make $336.74 every two weeks. I don't have the money to afford this and I plan on cancelling this policy today and I want my refund! I am in the insurance business-ish. I am a secretary for Nationwide Insurance Company, so I know a lot about what the people on the other side of the phone think people don't know. |

Weakness:
Initially low rates that skyrocketed! I have had a rather mixed experience with Progressive. At first, the rates were quite a bit less expensive than other companies. Over time, though, my rates increased repeatedly. They could not really give me a good excuse for that, except that laws had changed. I refuse to believe that the laws changed every six months when my policy came up for renewal. Then I bought a different car and my policy increased significantly. I explained that the new car has multiple security features and is a sedan, rather than the sport model convertable that they had previously insured. It did not help. So, I started calling around and got a much cheaper quote from Geico (as in, hundreds of dollars less). I gave Progressive a chance and they could not even come close to matching it, so I switched. Now on to the positive. Claims service was always super-fast and very convenient for me. They always came to me, not the other way around. I was always connected to a representative quickly and was assigned a claims adjustor that I could reach with no problems (unlike some companies, where you sit on hold forever). The service reps were always very friendly and helpful. Progressive even fought for me when another driver tried to sue for a very minor accident (no damage to my car at all, less than $200 to his). Of course, they were fighting for themselves, too, but I can recall an issue with Allstate where they sold me down the river! Furthermore, Progressive never gave me any problems with devaluing my car. In fact, when the top to my convertable was vandalized, they paid for a totally new top. Some other insurance companies will prorate parts like that and only pay a portion of them. Overall, I was perfectly happy to stay with Progressive for outstanding service, but the high rates did not make it worth it. Similar Products Used: Allstate, Nationwide |
