Rates tend to stay the same. No discounts for good students (although rate was good anyway considering I had an accident on my record)

I was quoted originally at $450 but it was raised to $800 after a month. I questioned the increase and it was due to the fact that I failed to prove that I had continuous coverage for the 6 months preceding the start of the Prog. policy. This was my fault b/c I didnt read the documents that they sent me. Once I provided the requested information it was reduced to the original amount. I would say this to anyone buying from Progressive: READ THE DOCUMENTS THEY SEND YOU, THEY ARE IMPORTANT!!

Overly agressive, bullying, no respect for people.

My wife was hit by a driver who had progressive insurance. When the agent called, he started asking her questions about how long she had owned her house and her marital status. At this point she told them they could talk to our insurance agent, and hung up. What business do these yahoos have asking these questions? They are evil.

Over the course of my fiance's time with Progressive, at the most crucial time of needing a great insurance company, we experienced how absolutely terrible they were with helping us get our vehicle on the road. With his being the only vehicle in our household, it was extremely discouraging that Progressive was not so thorough. They completely disappointed us. The reasons are listed below.

I have found that many of the reviews here are just not true. I have always spoken with friendly customer service people and claims people. I was reading about the guy who said he was charged a $100 cancel fee for his and his wife's policy, and that is BS. i have called and for any state the maximum is $50. And to the guy that said stuff about using used parts to repair his vehicle but not to the condition it was in before.. WAKE UP STUPID!! Your car's parts were used before your accident! It surprises me the ignorance and stupidity of your average nay sayer.

Had Progressive about 4 yrs now. Never had a ticket and my rate never dropped, even after turning 25. I got married and they dropped my rate $65 for 6 months. I bought a house and my zip code changed 1 digit. My rate was then raised $95 every 6 months. I'm so happy to have dumped Progressive, I'm now saving about $800/yr with Liberty Mutual with higher coverage.

DO NOT PURCHASE INSURANCE FROM THIS COMPANY! If you have insurance with this company cancel it. Unfortunately you will not know how horrible they are until you have an incident. Recently I totalled my brand new car that was less than three months old (it was weather related... freezing rain). It was devastating. Progressive took a week to decide whether or not they were going to fix or total my car and then they paid me $1000 less than it was worth. I checked this out with the NYS Insurance Dept. Progressive did not pay me what my car was worth! When it was convenient for them to use the excuse that my car was "too new" (to get values, etc) they did and when it was convenient that my car be "too old" to pay me the appropriate amount they used that. The adjuster's supervisor threatened me when I complained. He said if I did a claim against the company that just maybe they would chose to fix my car instead of making it a "total loss". In that case I would have been driving a car that had been over 75% "totalled" in terms of value. The (very reputable) collision shop said the car should not be repaired and they didn't even want the job in spite of the fact that it would have meant alot of money for them. Progressive staff were rude and they implied that I was too stupid to understand what the were telling me. They raised my rates within a month. In addition to higher rates and the $1000 they stole from me I am now going to be paying $45 per month more for my car payment for the next 5 years because I couldn't replace my car. You do the math.

Bad at Math.

BUYER BEWARE!!! In fact, DRIVER BEWARE, for there are other people driving on the road with Progressive and you'll probably never get what's owed to you. A teenager ignored a stop sign, hit me and got cited for it. Clearly her fault, but Progressive said it was 30% my fault and only gave me $1800 for my car which was worth over $3000! I've been without a car for over a month and they want to give me only $1800!! What am I going to buy with that!?!
