I had a confirmed car rental through Expedia for a weekly Advantage Rent a Car for Phoenix Sky Harbor in January. Due to a delayed flight and slow shuttle bus to Car Rental Center I arrived 62 minutes late. I was told my reservation had been cancelled as I was over 60 minutes late. The counter person would not respond to my incredulous questioning of this, nor let me speak to a supervisor. He told me to check out Budget as they "have good rates". All other rental car agencies cost more than $350 per week more than my confirmed reservation for a walk up. I had no choice but to rent from them and was told Advantage obviously had overbooked and I was left out in the cold. I called and wrote both the local Phoenix agent and Advantage Corporate and never had a return call from Phoenix, and was told by Corporate they were sorry, they had referred me to the manager in Phoenix, who never returned my calls. I have never received a response.

This is the worst rental car experience I have had in over 35 years of renting, and probably the worst travel customer service ever, and that is saying a lot.

National Car Rental was very friendly and helpful, but their walk up prices were their prices and my vacation cost me $350 more than I had budgeted.

Advantage runs a scam operation, charging undisclosed fees.

We rented a vehicle on line for a quoted price of $248. Upon pick-up, a $200 undisclosed additional "Damage Deposit fee" was assessed, which is not returned upon return of the vehicle.

I rented the car for 8 days Feb 26 to Mar 6, 2013. The price was over $100 less than everyone else, so I took a chance that it would be good. Upon arrival at the airport, it was easy to find where their shuttle picks up and drops off. Waited only 5 minutes for shuttle. Shuttle driver was friendly and helpful, and the shuttles are all new. There was no line at the counter and the counter man was friendly and helpful. Took about 10 minutes for paperwork, got the car, and we just drove it off the lot. Check-in was easy and quick. They refunded the $200 deposit to my credit card, and I ended up paying the agreed price - $120. Waited 3 minutes for a shuttle back, and 10 minutes later we were inside the airport! This was one of the most pleasant car rental experiences I've had!!

So I walked into Advantage today to pick up my reserved car.
Frank tells me I am early, so either I pay a premium increase of almost 40% for a car....... Or I will have to sit and wait a couple hours to get my confirmation rate. Customer Service???? I refused and went back to airport on shuttle.....I went to Enterprise And toldmy story to Desiree ....and got a better car for 30% less than original Advantage contract. NOW...That is customer service!!! Thanks Enterprise and Desiree.
Go pound sand Advantage . I will never even consider this switch and bait company again.

Advantage is a horrible company. They advertise through Priceline and we brought the insurance with the vehicle. When we picked up the vehicle they said they would not honor the insurance and we would have to buy their insurance also. Have a $200 deposit that is not listed. Not a big deal but they should list it. The guy was very unhelpful. Will never use advantage again.

I don't even know where to start. It was just horrible.

We flew into West Palm Airport, FL and the Advantage shuttle took forever to come.

When I reserved my car online, the total price was $286.00 including all estimated fees and taxes. So I had about that much on my card. Got to the counter and she said the total was 530 something dollars. Excuse me? For what? A $200 dollar deposit I was no aware of, and the $25 charge everyday for being 21 yrs old. I had already checked how old I was when I reserved the car online, so that was included. She was double charging me!

THEN, my card wouldn't work because it's a debt/credit card. You need a major credit card or else it will always swipe as debit. I had NO IDEA! She was no help at all and gave us no other options except to go to Budget. Heck, I'm from Michigan, I didn't know how to get anywhere and we had no vehicle.

Three hours later, after watching the Advantage lady piss everybody off that came in contact with her, and also watching her literally hang up the phone with frustrated customers while they were in the middle of talking, we had gotten amazing service with Alamo and were on our way up north.

Basically, everything was horrible and I was so fed up with the woman. The other people on the shuttle back to the airport were in the same boat as me and were equally, if not more frustrated. I will never go back to Advantage, they are just a big scam and are no help.

GO WITH ALAMO!!! They gave us free coverage and the most discounts they possibly could. The service was incredible and we left them very satisfied with our brand new 2013 Ford Focus. Thank you Alamo!

DON'T GO TO ADVANTAGE!!

Booked small car online, confirmed price and insurance twice (over internet and telephone). On the phone, I had to call several times to get through. Once we got to the building, they informed us there were no compact cars available, and we upgraded to an SUV. However, I walked around their parking lot, to discover several small cars that did not appear to be damaged or reserved. After going back inside and being firm, we got a Corolla, the small car we originally wanted.

TL;DR, they lied to us in an effort to get us to upgrade.

RENTER BEWARE!!!!! We waited for nearly an hour (along with other frustrated, tired and angry customers) and continuously attempted to call the local number listed, but only received more recorded instructions for how to wait for the shuttle. We finally reached someone at the national number and were told that a shuttle would be there in 10 minutes. While we were waiting, other shuttle companies coming by were telling us that Advantage was out of cars and had been most of the day. “That is impossible”, we thought, we have a reservation and no one had called or e-mailed us to say this was true. Sure enough, after more than an hour wait, the driver pulls up and confirmed the bad news. We demanded that he take us to the office so we could talk to someone. When we got there, there were four employees sitting around and no cars and no customers. It was also obvious that they were not answering the phones on purpose, not making the runs and informing people and basically hiding from the customers who pay their salaries! Had we not called the national company to get through to someone, no one would have come out to the airport and no one would have picked up the phone.
Even worse, no real apologies were offered either; no offer to help us out with another rental, no offer to take care of the problem they had caused, no atonement for forcing all the people with reservations who would now have to fork over triple and quadruple the costs of their “online reservation” since we all had to get a last minute rental on site at the airport! And no return call from the regional manager after two calls to his cell phone that night and again the next day during business hours.

Why nobody should use Advantage Rental Cars

When you hand someone a credit card and tell them it has a $500 limit, you don't run it for $700, tell the person your card is declined and your reservation has been canceled. Don't bother changing the reservation with Advantage by phone because they won't run the card again for 24 hours. Don't let Phillip & Graham make your wife cry when she is turned away again just because. Don't bother wasting 45 minutes being passed from one reservation supervisor to the next because they flat out cannot do anything.

Just say no to the company that made my wife cry!!!!!!

Similar Products Used:

Enterprise, Dollar, Budget have all been used before without a hitch. So Advantage is the weakest link.

priceline said car was 17.00/day they charged me close to $50.00 but only when I returned the car. Had only 30 minutes to catch a plane no time to discuss or argue DO NOT USE THEM
