Goodyear Eagle RS-A Tires

Goodyear Eagle RS-A Tires

DESCRIPTION

Goodyear designed the Eagle RS-A to excel in all conditions, and part of the success is the unique asymmetrical tread design. It delivers traction in the dry, wet and snow with consistent effectiveness. And premium sidewall styling means the RS-A looks as good as it performs.

Came stock on my car. What junk! After two weeks with these tires, I new I had to get rid of them. I went to a local tire retailer and they recommended Dunlop SP 4000. These were a HUGE improvement. Retailer let me 'trade in' the Goodyears so the switch didn't cost me as much as I'd feared. I've been extremely pleased with my car overall - I'm just surprised that Audi chose the Goodyear RSA as a stock tire. Just about anything else on the market would be better.

Strength:

Not much.

Weakness:

It squeals, it's roadholding is mediocre at best, it has a very weak carcass structure (deformities and blowouts) and it's very expensive for what it is.

I've never had any luck with Goodyear tires. Unfortunately, I think like many other products made in the US, these are junk products. It's an insult for any car manufacturer to use these as OE tires, but I guess we're talking about the same people who build the Taurus, Explorer or Malibu and call them world class cars.

Such lack of quality at such a high price. I bought my car with these tires on them and will be replacing them soon. People should not buy Goodyears nor should they go to Goodyear stores.

Decent dry traction

Weakness:

LOUD, horrible treadware, HORRIBLE wet traction. Driving in the snow with these tires is like driving in the mud with no tires on the rims....

Well, thankfully, these tires came on the car. Not HORRIBLE in terms of dry traction, but everything else is. I threw a set of Nitto NT450's on the car (upsized from 225/55ZR16 to 245/50ZR16), and the traction, ride, noice level, and treadwear difference is IMMENCE.... These things cost $180 a piece for my car!!! I only paid $109 for the Nittos!!!

Strength:

Nothing much really, after 3 blow-outs.

Weakness:

Totally unsafe and should be recalled.

I brought my 98 Eclipse GSX new in March 98 and it comes with Goodyear Eagle RS-A (215/50R-17) tires, the performance of which I didn't know about. I had less than 13,000 miles on it right now, but had 3 blow outs, in which the tire had separated from the sidewall completely in the 1st and 3rd incident and on my 2nd, I had caught it early enough as the tire begin to separate, before I went on the freeway, like I did for the other 2 times. Interestingly, my 2nd was from a tire I bought from Tire Rack after my 1st and had very little miles put on. I am lucky that I am still alive to write about it today. I am getting to the point of being very paranoid about my tires these days and my car is sitting in my garage after my 3rd since I am afraid to drive it. As I am basically a very trusting soul, I hate to have to go through all the hooplas of warrantees, and I had to pay for my 1st and 2nd anyway; even though I am beginning to wise up after my 3rd (which is still unresolved right now). Nevertheless, I am now thinking about taking legal action against Goodyear. I would urge anybody out there to send in their reviews of this tire, particularly negative ones, so that we can demand a recall from Goodyear, as I think the irresponsibilities of US business is getting way out of hand these days.

Weakness:

poor dry grip, poor wet grip, poor durability, loud, hard riding

This is a follow up post to my earlier review. This tire has to be the biggest rip-off in the industry. Mine were OEM, I'm glad I don't have to admit to actually paying for these! My tires now have 29000 miles on them and they have gotten worse. Dry and wet traction had degraded. The tires have become extremely noisy and squeal easily on corners. I cannot take off from a light in the rain without severe wheelspin.

Goodyear should be ashamed for having the balls to charge $100 a tire for these pieces of &*#@.

Weakness:

I had three blowouts within 8 months
It's overpriced.

My 98 eclipse GSX came with Goodyear RSA 215/50-17. I started having problems with this tire during this spring when I noticed a bump on the sidewall which Goodyear claimed was due to driving over a pothole. Being the honest person that I am I accepted the reason even when I knew this was unlikely and purchased a new one. Subsequently, I had to replace them again for the same reason a few months later. I am a pretty honest guy and take exceptional care of this vehicle but I was given every excuse in the book by the tire shop that defects are uncommon with these tires. I vowed then that these tires S*CK and I will never buy GoodYear tires again. Its bad enough being charged $200 on crap tires but to be accused of lying as well? I am convinced that GOODYEAR is making excuses for a product they know is substandard. They used every excuse in the book from bad driving habits to design quality of the car to get out of warranty repair. Consumers need to be aware that these tires are OEM for a reason--Think about it! Heed my warning don't buy these tires!

I like the tires on my car for the summer, but i have purchased a set of snow tires and rims for the upcoming winter months. During the fall, the tures gave very poor performance on rainy days, especially for a car with anti-lock brakes.

These tires are original equipment on many cars, but there are much better alternatives out there. Even the no-name brands which are available where i live offer comparable performance and are often cheaper.

Strength:

Good wet traction, good wear, nice highway ride

Weakness:

dry traction under hard braking, takes a while to heat up

The RS-A is a good stock tire from the factory. You can definately nit-pick about it depending upon the kind of driver that you are. I for one like the performance aspect but still take into consideration the comfort factor. If inclimate weather is a problem where you live, this is a great tire as wet traction and braking feel are superb. If you live in Southern California where it is usually sunny, I would suggest switching to another set of tires because dry performance is not quite on par with that of the XGT-Z4s I use now. However, it strikes a great balance between performance and comfort. Most people will never push their tires to the limits. The Michelins I am using now give me better dry traction but the road noise and ride comfort has suffered compared to the stock RS-As. When you factor in the price of buying these tires, the Michelins give a better value, but the RS-As are a wonderful tire as long as the driving you do is not of the very aggressive variety.

Tire tread blew out

Definately not worth $200 a tire. They came on my 1999 Eclipse GSX. Everything was fine until, the tire tread tore on the back wheel. The next day, another tire tread tore but this one flew off while I was on the highway. Good thing I was going slow, since I was on the spare I used for the tire that blew out the day before. I only have 15,500 miles on my car. Two days, two blown tire treads. I dont recommend anyone bet this tire as it is very dangerous.
