Goodyear Eagle RS-A Tires

Goodyear Eagle RS-A Tires

DESCRIPTION

Goodyear designed the Eagle RS-A to excel in all conditions, and part of the success is the unique asymmetrical tread design. It delivers traction in the dry, wet and snow with consistent effectiveness. And premium sidewall styling means the RS-A looks as good as it performs.

Strength:

treadware, great predictable handling, all weather

Weakness:

price? can be bargained down!

Audi put a new set of RSAs on this car when I bought it certified used at 47K miles. They provided excellent service here in southern New England and New York city area. Perhaps it is due to the Quattro, but I never had a bad experience with them - dry, wet or snow, even as they wore on. At 103K (55K on the tires) I replaced them with Goodyear LS, but 2K later I swapped them out for another set of RSAs. My wife travels the windy CT parkways and interstate 95 agressively, often in the rain (wet this year!!!), and she immediatly noticed the poorer handiling of the LS tires. Now that she has the RSA again, she says she has her great handing car back!

probably be a good tire if they could hold air.

Weakness:

leaks

do not know if the tires or rims at fault but pumping air back into tires almost a daily chore. dealer tells me that is normal after 25k miles.

Seem to be good tires, but probably will be the last set of Goodyear tires that I purchase! Since buying these tires, I have spent more time in the tire store's waiting room than behind the wheel!!

Weakness:

Questionable quality control of performance tires!

Unsure because, despite several attempts, the dealer could not properly balance these tires. After installing these tires, I drove home and parked. When backing out of my parking space the next morning, realized that one of the tires was flat. After reinflating this tire (still carry my trusty bike pump in the trunk!), I drove to the tire store -- they found a pin hole in the sidewall.

Strength:

Great treat wear, good hadling (not a racing performance tire, just a good touring performance tire)

Weakness:

Pricey at best. When I bought the Toyo's last summer, the RSAs were $175 each. Now they are a more reasonable $130 each (because they are going to a new tread pattern this year)

First, for all of you that had these tires "sqeal" when turning, get your alignment checked. I cornerd on back roads at up to 65mph and never heard a sound out of them. And for those that say they don't handle as well after 2/3 of the tread is used, you show me any tire that does. I got 63K miles on my first set (OEM) and put some JUNK Toyo Proxes FZ4s on, and only 28K miles later, I'm going back to the RSAs. They handle well in wet weather. The do OK in snow considering the application (a lower riding sporty car).

Strength:

I ONLY WISH I HAD A SET NOW BECAUSE THE DEPARTMENT GOT TO CHEEP TO PAY FOR THE RSA'S NOW. THE RSA WERE MUCH BETTER THAT THE MUD AND SNOW PASSENGER TIRES I CURRENTLY HAVE

Weakness:

VERY LOW RESISTENCE TO WEAR. I COULD UNDERSTAND IF THE TREAD COMPOUND WAS SOFT AND THE TRACTION WAS BETTER. HOWEVER THATS NOT THE CASE. VERY LITTLE DRY TRACTION. EVEN LESS TRACTION ON ANYTHING BUT BRAND NEW DRY ASPHALT.

FOR REGULAR DRIVING CONDITIONS I WAS NOT IMPRESSED. I HAD A SET ON MY 1996 CAVALIER Z-24. I GOT ABOUT 28000 MILES ON THEM BEFORE THEY WERE SHOT. THEY DID NOT HOOK UP AT ALL. THE TRACTION RATING IS A JOKE. ALSO HAVE HAD EAGLE RSA ON MY PATROL CAR SINCE IVE HAD IT. THEY LAST MAYBE 15000 MILES BEFORE REPLACEMENT IS NECCESSARY. THEY SUCK IN RAIN/SNOW OR MUD. HANDLING ABILITY ALTHOUGH MOSTLY ATTRIBUTED TO THE CAR COULD USE SOME IMPROVEMENT. YOU CAN RUN INTO UNDERSTEER VERY REGULARYLY. THE ONLY REASON MOST DEPARTMENTS USE THESE TIRES INSTEAD OF REAL TIRES IS THE PRICE. THEY GET A REAL GOOD DEAL ON THEM. LIKE ABOUT 60% DISCOUNT OF WHAT MOST PEOPLE PAY BECAUSE OF STATE BID.

extremely short tread life....

These tires perform great. I bought the car brand new and this is the first set of tires on it. The size is 225/55R16-94H. However, I have only 28,000 miles on them and the tread is worn to the belts! I rotate the tires every 7,500 miles and keep the recommended air pressure in them (in this case 38 P.S.I.)

Grips road well, great life span.

Weakness:

None that I can find.

I'm very surprised to read so many negative reviews about this tire. I have a set that came with my 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34. I rotate my tires every 15,000 miles. My car has 84,000 miles and I'm still on the same set of tires. As good as my tread is, I may pull off 100,000 miles on the tires, but it will probably be close. In any case, I may get a new set before wintertime just to be safe. Also, I can feel that my tires aren't performing as well as they used to, but I can't complain with the mileage I've gotten out of them. I have no complaints about these tires. I guess maybe I got a good set compared to others?

Weakness:

These are the best tires I have ever had, in 32 years of driving. I live in Wisconsin and drive a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT. I have 70,000 miles on them, mostly highway driving, and I do not baby them. They handle great. The wet and snow traction is outstanding. These have a few more miles left in them, but I am getting ready to buy another set, and will buy these same tires no matter what they cost.

Traction, styling, ride

Weakness:

none so far

Had to do some research on these tires to understand if it was our new car or the tires that led to such great traction in the snow. The Goodyear RSA's came standard on our new 2003 BMW 330i. We were nervous about a rear wheel drive car in Illinois and contemplated the 330xi with all-wheel drive. Good thing we didn't spend the extra money on the car, the tires are doing the trick all by themselves. Great ride, attractive sidewalls and, of course, they handle great on rear wheel drive cars in the snow.
