Goodyear Eagle RS-A Tires

DESCRIPTION

Goodyear designed the Eagle RS-A to excel in all conditions, and part of the success is the unique asymmetrical tread design. It delivers traction in the dry, wet and snow with consistent effectiveness. And premium sidewall styling means the RS-A looks as good as it performs.

Model Reviewed: 2002 RS-A 225/45R 17"

Strength:

This is a joke. NONE.

Weakness:

-Rapid tread wear under normal driving conditions. (with a new car w/traction control) No winter driving. -Lousy cornering for a 45 series tire. Moderate cornering produced loud complaints from these tires. -Not happy on a front wheel drive car. Car had the tendency to follow every line in the road, except the one I wanted to follow. -Stress cracks around inside sidewall discovered @ 20,000 miles. Took to the tire shop to have tires pro-rated due to defects.

Garbage! 20,000 miles and the front tires are almost worn to the tread wear indicators. Car is a 2002 VW Jetta 1.8 turbo w/180hp. 225/45R 17" tires as an option. I should have opted for the Michelins.

Got these as original equipment- Infiniti used these in place of a full performance tire for up north (Minnesota). I was questioning winter performance (since this is is the first RWD car I've owned in over 12 years. But with traction control on vehicle stability control, the car runs great even in snow;however, I just had my first flat 8,000 miles and blew out the side wall. The dealer is putting a new on on (my extended warranttee will only cover $125) hey it's better than $0. Otherwise they're great tires on an awesome car!

Strength:

Reasonably stiff walls, excellent dry handling, good response. Not overly expensive.

Weakness:

Tread fairly ineffective in snow. Wet and icy weather... don't be an idiot! Killing yourself is one thing, don't take someone else out with you. These appear to be sportier tires geared more for dry than inclement weather.

Yes, and we all know how much better your fully framed REAR wheel drive V8 handles in the snow compared to a ****box front wheel drive, lol. Easy on the testosterone there fella. You don't have the hottest car on the block. Plenty of modified cars out there to leave you wiping the dust out of your eyes. As to the Grand Am owners? My previous car was a 92 Grand Am V6. The inability to corner isn't necessarily due to tires. The suspension just isn't meant to be sporty. Grand Am's have a terminal case of body roll. The 6 is a strong engine, great acceleration and straightaway speed, but they do not handle well. I used to squeal going 40 MPH on an on-ramp. I've noticed however with the Eclipse's firmer suspension that I can bang a corner at 35 mph with not so much as a chirp. Of course, you'd still smoke me on the straighaway :) Every car has it's weakness. Try getting some well balanced stabilizers put in- that will help. Tires can only do so much you know.

Strength:

-High Speed Rating -Soft Composition -Firm ride -Excellent handling -Great dry and wet traction -Good snow and ice traction -Survives curb jumping, pot holes, etc. -Great history and brand name -Factory issue on 1995-2003 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, Fleet-Taxi Package, and Natural Gas Crown Victoria. -Exceeds Police standards

Weakness:

-Reportedly lousy on sub-standard vehicles, according to this web site.

I don't know what most of you people are talking about. These tires are the balls! Maybe it is because most of you are driving front wheel drive $hitboxes, not traditional, FULL FRAMED, V-8 powered rear wheel drive cars like my 2000 Crown Vic. These are the ONLY tires my department will run on it's 18 vehicle fleet! These tires take a beating and keep on ticking!

Strength:

tread life, even wear

Weakness:

loss of dry, and particularly wet, handling with wear/age

Came as original equipment on a '98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Decent performance when newer but as tire has warn/aged it has gotten increasingly "greasy". The front tires now squeal and eventually slip with any spirited to semi agressive cornering. Any wet traction has gone away and will hydroplane with any water on the road. Snow traction was marginal when new and has only gotten worse. Regular rotations and maintaining air pressure has resulted in impressive tread life with over 50,000 miles on them and still not close to the wear bars, even when making regular use of the 240 horses under the hood

treadlife, especially if not rotated a lot, wet traction, snow traction, noise

these tires howl on my avenger. I go to school in North Dakota, drive on interstate a lot, and have gone through tons of snow, water, ice and even inches of hail. These tires are terrible in these conditions, especially when they are approaching the end of their treadlife. For anyone with an Avenger, Sebring, or Eclipse, I would recommend Dunlop SP Sport A2's. They are way better and a few bucks cheaper.

Strength:

Smooth stable ride, great dry, good wet, and it is all in the context of slowing down when the weather dictates.

Weakness:

Have had problems with sidewall breakdown from Texas heat and 20-40 mile runs at 100+ mph.

These tires are Orig Equip on most Police Pkg Crown Vics. 15-23,000 miles is about all we get from the RSA''s. We were switching to the GT-II''s but the cars would not handle as well. I do drive fast when I have to, up tp 120mph. I do slow for corners and have had no problem on dry pavement. When wet we slow down accordingly. Ice, sleet and snow chains is the only way to go and slow at that. I have driven Goodyears for over 23 tears on all brands of Police Pkg vehicles.

Ride nice and look nice.

Weakness:

Easily punctured.

I have had the tires on my Grand Am for 3 years with 26,000 miles. It seems the tires puncture very easily, as I have had to repair all 4 tires at least once for being punctured from picking up nails and screws from the road. I have driven speeds of 100mph plus and the tires seem to handle fine, dry weather of course.

Strength:

Excellent all weather handling. Sporty on dry pavement. Superb in rain. Surprisingly good in snow.

Weakness:

Wear quickly. Performance has its price.

I am on my second set at 53,500 miles (first set lasted almost 30K). I am a performance oriented driver and the tires do wear fairly quickly. However, these are fabulous tires. Fantastic characteristics in all conditions. Fast, smooth and sticky on dry pavement, possibly the best I''ve ever had in the rain, and surprisingly good in the snow. They''ve also taken a beating on rough stuff with no problems. I did have one flat: a parking lot nail; not the tires fault, and the tire kept pressure for a very long time. Based on some other less favorable reviews listed here I can only surmise that the tires do not perform well on light cars driven precariously. These are performance all season tires-not racers! My car has some weight and it is driven hard. Performance from these tires has been stunning. True touring rubber. Note: they''re at their best when air pressure is on the high side.
